I understand your liking of the surround. The rest of the car, not so much :)

And, on that note, two favorites-my MG and beautiful, glorious Plus-X.

This is some old 120 stock I recently turned up(and paid dearly for). This remains my favorite B&W emulsion for some indescribable reason. Tri-X isn't much grainier, while FP4+ offers finer grain at the same speed and the T-grain films have virtually no grain in their ASA 100 variants. I use a lot of FP4+ and have come to really like it, but I just can't get the mid-tones to behave like good old Plus-X. Kodak delivered one surprise in Q1 of 2018 with the return of TMZ seemingly out of nowhere. Maybe Q2 will bring us Plus-X, although I'm not holding my breath(although initial sales of TMZ were quite strong).

As I said, Plus-X and developed in straight D76. Shot in a Hasselblad 500C/80mm Planar.

From this A.M. . .the Van Vleck House ...

arcade11280.jpg

M9 , 15/4.5 CV LTM , f9.5@1/250 ,ISO 400

Had a tough time with this ... Shoulda brought a tripod , but didn't thinking I could get away with a 28mm . Vertical level was set using the left edge of the far right column , There was a major piece of the wisteria vine intruding on the left that 'content aware fill' wanted nothing to do with , plus having to lighten shadows and darken highlights . Don't know if I like the final results , might go back later in the week with a tripod ,5D2 , 17-40 , and a level and see what happens .

Normally in Autumn, this valley is a riot of intense colour as the leaves change and get ready to drop. Not this year!

Great photo. Definitely frame worthy. You shot this at F/4? How did you get it so sharp? I shoot landscapes at F/4 and the farthest part out is soft. Did you focus stack or something? I usually shoot this type at F/8 or higher.

Thanks!

The short answer is I used a 90mm macro lens and an external flash shot through an umbrella.

The longer answer is that I started out with this:

40133262180_348214044b_h.jpg

And then spent a considerable amount of time in post making it look like I wanted it to look when I shot it. The challenge was that I needed to shoot it at f/9 to get some semblance of depth of field on the flower which made the background quite messy with some ugly bokeh. And the flower was close enough to the ground that I couldn't darken out the background with the flash (by using a fast shutter speed) as the flash was lighting up everything regardless of what I did. So I got creative in Silver Efex Pro to selectively darken the background.

Thanks for sharing this info. What a transformation. I thought you shot this inside. Because of my breathing issues- can't bend down too long, I usually bring these flowers inside to my studio and shoot them. I'll have to try this out. I really love the look.

I just got Silver Efex a few months ago, thanks to the suggestions on here. I'm still learning it, but so far I like it.

Well you clearly know what you are doing with them! Good work.

Thanks mate!.... I should add that I do have a little bounce going on from the front left. But pretty much one parabeam set high above his head. The second, on a much lower power, as a rim to catch some light on the his inside arm.

A quick test in Lightroom to see if this one had legs, and it's definitely gonna get the treatment in Photoshop! Apologies for the haloing along the roof and top of the treeline, but that's the limitations to Lightroom I guess.

Thanks, and one word for you... hyperfocal point, or is that two? I use it on my 17-40 and 24-105mm lenses all the time. Learn what it is for your lenses at various focal lengths and use it!

Do you have the newest update to LR via CC? There is a masking option for brushes and other adjustments now that really helps with haloing.

Love the creativity with your flower photos. I enjoy seeing them.

Just some tree bark I found interesting. Not sure it translated into a Pick. Used SE 2 as I though B&W might make it more interesting.

Comments always welcome.

I like. To me, tree bark is one of those subjects where you can really get creative with. I always will try to shoot bark in B&W. Gives it a "moody" look. Once it a while, I will try color. It really depends on what I am trying to convey.

Thanks! I learned something new today!:) Will give it a shot next time I shoot a landscape.

I had to be quick and at the same time patient to capture this American Goldfinch as it was quick to fly away. After a number of attempts, it finally let me get a few shots of it. :)
