Well, after all my talking about how I usually can't seem to shoot small birds, today a blackbird came to call. Literally. I was busy editing images and suddenly heard "caw-caw" rather loud and rather close -- surprised, I glanced out the screen door (glass slider was open) and there he was, big as life, sitting on the deck rail! I grabbed the iPhone, which was the closest camera at hand, and cautiously began shooting, moving very slowly. Eventually I was able to get to the door and shoot through the glass at him.....

He’s virtually ever present in my garden. Had to young boys with him the other day.

What is ironic is that the camera was sitting on the dining table, still mounted to the bazooka (200-600mm)! I knew that if I moved too much around the house, though, that my birdie would take off. Would've been interesting if I'd used the long lens, though -- could've gotten a closeup of one eye and his eyelashes with 600mm! LOL!

Our backyard, caught these 2 birds hiding from the rain having a stare down. Then I was busted.
It was lightly raining, seems to have taken the sharpness away slightly.
Canon 70D 70-200 L with 1.4 extender on
Side bar: I built that birdhouse 47 years ago with my grandpa - I was 10 then, it’s an old orange crate painted then alum roof put on it. 2 stories, 4 houses each level.

Great memories tied to that birdhouse you helped build in 1973.

Only their mother can tell them apart ;)

Cheers :)

i had just pressure washed the porch and was working on the rocking chairs on the driveway. She was watching to make sure I wasn’t planning on coming back to the porch. The statute gets me every now and then. I’ll wonder what white cat is on the step. Picture wasn’t posed. You can never get her to do anything she doesn’t want to do.

Oh no, I wasn't being rude, I was just trying to make a joke.

They're both lovely anyway ;)

Cheers :)

Walking with my wife on a section of my normal 15 to 20 mile bike loop and saw the rare (stabilized population in FL, no longer classified engangered) Swallow Tail Kite. Returned yesterday on bike but never saw until just leaving, but even on a bike couldn't position myself for a picture (iPhone only vs Sony when walking) as it worked the river. Rainy today and I need to work on my bike.

Wasn't happy with the shots I did yesterday of a pair of turtles, so gave it another try, and just one guy was relaxing in the sun today. I had to do a fair amount of cropping, as that submerged branch is quite a distance from my deck. That's not snow in the picture, nor do I need to do do a thorough cleaning of the lens and/or the sensor, but rather, it's blossoms that have been falling and/or blowing off the nearby trees.
