🗼On the top is The Goddess of Victory statue atop the Dewey Monument. The monument was erected to honor Admiral George Dewey, a hero of the Spanish-American War, for his victory in the Battle of Manila Bay.

The dedication of the monument was President Roosevelt's last official act before leaving San Francisco. Union Square was - and is - the center of San Francisco's retail district, and is located two blocks north of Market Street. Union Square San Francisco, California. 🗼
i’m not sure we are ready to give up the “must be your own work rule” just yet.

Dang, y’all are not playing.

Understood- The rule states:

*All photos should be your own work (unless special circumstances have been agreed).

The picture to the left-hand side is the one I took personally (my own work). If it does not meet the requirements, please kindly let me know. Will be happy to take it down.

Thank you 😃

I'm not aware that it was agreed that historical photos were allowed in this thread. I'm happy to be corrected if the case is otherwise. Clearly you did not take the photo dated from 1903.

We have an occasional participant who is confined to a wheelchair who often sets up a photo and then has a friend/relative push the button on her phone or camera for her. She is physically unable to take a photo, but tells her companion what she'd like to shoot.

To my knowledge, that is the only special circumstance we've so far allowed.

As with the previous topic, discussion is a fair point, and likes/dislikes to responses will be noted.

Thank you for your reply and clarification.

I remember I did post a historic photo previously and did a small comparison and did not have any issues. It’s just a fair comparison. I think as long the work contains your own work. It’s a fair call to do a comparison. Otherwise, it wouldn’t make any sense to take another photo of the historic picture from your own camera and then compare it with the original photo.

Please let me know if I’m wrong or need to be corrected. Thanks, again. 🙏🏻

I like the back story and the comparison photo. Helps put your photo in perspective. I personally don't see a problem with the historic photo for the purpose you used it for.

I viewed a YouTube video last night featuring a photographer who is in the 8th year of a 10-year project documenting the Lifeboat stations in the U.K.

If you are interested in collodion wet process photography (glass plate), this is worth a visit.
