I prefer yesterday's, but still a winner.
Thanks. I have been here before, it's a local bridge, and am still trying to capture it. Different perspective, different angle. It's a great subject.

Here it's being build (not my photo, from https://civildigital.com )

Cheers mate. It's all in the gear!

I disagree. Despite the hindrance of Nikon, you have done well here.... ;-)

WOW! if you are going to saturate an image, then this is an example of how to crank it up and make it work! So much to look at. The birds in the sky, the guys on the railing, the pylons, the glow from the sun... Damnit! I wish I had an eye for it like you do!

Nikon beats Leica, you mean? :)

@kenoh - I did crank up the saturation. I don't always do such heavy processing, but it seemed right for this :)

Massively the right thing! It is beautiful to look at and you havent lost any ambiance! send it to Rockwell... show him how to do it properly... (notice I couldnt say send it to Ken... because well, yeah... I have already see it) :)

Result! Very nice. Nearest beach to here is about 2-2.5 hours away!

Me neither. I just adore a beautiful shooting experience and I have not found anything that compares to a Leica M.

Says the guy that hasn't tried Nikon ;)

I think we can both agree that our cameras can shoot better than we do!
I'm the weak link in the chain, not the gear. Obviously you'd be better off with a Leica M10 or Nikon D70! :p

Yeah I have! I had a D300 for a short while.... very short... didnt enjoy it... moved to Canon... :)

My cameras prove to me on a daily basis that they are not the shortcoming in my art...

Nope dont want an M10 anytime soon... I have my gear, I need to focus on using it as best I can as there is plenty of headroom in my gear for a few years yet and anyway, the M9 shoots with a profile that no other "me too" CMOS camera does...

Okay. Then no more GAS for us. Well not for this year then, agreed?

Come on, it's nearly 2018, that's cheating :D

I'm completely GAS free now ;)

Cheers :)

Hugh

Come on man! Small steps!

You know I am a sufferer... Christ! If I were any worse I would be using proximity of the nearest Amazon distribution centre as selection criteria when choosing a new house!

Edit: FYI its in Dunfermline... Not that I have looked it up or anything...

Edit edit: sad factoid about me... Over the past 6 months I have had on average 1 Amazon delivery EVERY day... I shop with them so much, they refund my returns BEFORE they get their stuff back... I am not proud of this... 2018 i need to stop this....

Definitely no more big purchases in 2017....

promise...

Edit: unless I get the green light for a drone again...
Never really fancied a drone. Don't think I'd have enough places to fly it.

I promised myself the same thing after the latest Amazon delivery this week (L bracket for the D850). As Hughmac pointed out - 2018 is just around the corner...good thing indeed!

Gotta say Ken that I've been thinking about a drone as well. Very cool technology! The problem I'm having is the flight restrictions that are in place for a very good reason. The restrictions leave me wondering if I'd be able to fly it over and around the things I would really like to photograph from a bird's eye view.

Post Thanksgiving walk at the Cornell Ornithology Lab before heading home Friday . Figure'd there would be some waterfowl to get pictures of , but no luck ...

At the risk of sounding like a nag on this subject, I have to say: "Watch your horizon @someoldguy".

Same here. There is talk of 4 mile exclusion zones around airports and the likes.

Then they are saying that in the UK they are bringing in a law that says all users of drones must pass a flight safety assessment. I mean I agree but it is putting a lot of obstacles in front of me when I will likely use it periodically, probably have my fun for a while then not use it anymore.

I went to the Toronto harbour front area to photograph Canada Day fireworks on July 1st this year and there was a young guy flying a DJI Mavic Pro in the area we were standing in. I talked to him about it and he was very happy to demonstrate it's capabilities and features.

I was so amazed at what the drone could do and what I was seeing on his screen that I went home and started researching that night. I looked at the cost of the drone and what operating restrictions applied. I have to say that what I found with respect to restrictions was quite disturbing. It clearly demonstrated that the young man had no idea what he was doing, or didn't care, by flying it with about 2 km of an airport and within 5 m of a large crowd of people.

It would be a whole lotta fun to try though and of course, to do it responsibly.

The pond recedes from the left to the right . The trees on the far left are , at most 30m from where I was standing , however , those on the right were easily 5X that distance . There's some sort of parallax/perspective thing playing games with your heads . I used the back tree line as a rough horizon , and one of the trees in the approximate center as a rough vertical . There used to be a Great Blue Heron nest on the dead tree on the right . Was there for several years . The Lab had a 'Heron Cam" up there to watch them . But they left a few years back . Suspect the tree will go over one of these days , as will those on the left , whose roots are slowly getting drowned in the bog created by the pond .
