What is it this year with all these people putting up their decorations so early? It's still November, for heaven's sake! I can understand maybe putting up/stringing lights on the house if someone does that, as it has been a lot warmer and more pleasant in November than it will be in December, but putting out the yard decorations, buying and setting up, decorating the Christmas tree in the house? Just seems a bit premature to me.....

I am one of the grinchiest people out there...I think Christmas is way overblown and too commercialized. But even we got our tree this weekend and decorated. It's after Thanksgiving!

also I know a lot of people decorated early this year for their kids since most are stuck at home distance learning.

In our neighborhood, a lot of people are happy the election is over, tired of the pandemic and news of it, tired of the stress and gloom. They're ready for something festive. My wife and I don't have to feel guilty about not traveling to some in-law-or-other or not having them here! As introverts happiest when reading books, out photographing, hiking, cooking or similar sorts of things, for us, it will be a quiet (but festive!) holiday season. No tree yet at our house but the outside is getting nicely decorated as is also true with our neighbors.

Tanagra (not really)
Many folks in my neighborhood went all out with Halloween this year, putting out displays (fake webs, headstones, etc) the first day of October! I couldn’t understand the logistics of that, as there is usually still grass to mow and leaves to rake. ?‍♂️

Regarding Christmas, we usually put up the decorations the day after Thanksgiving. Mrs Darmok has had an especially hard time with this year (who hasn’t?), and she was actually very happy after decking the halls this year. That’s a good enough reason for me. :)

Thanks, everyone, for presenting your perspectives and reasoning vis-a-vis the early decorating, etc..... Now this is beginning to make more sense to me! This might partly be a generation thing, too. When I was growing up, it seemed as though most people didn't start decorating or putting up their tree until about the second week of December..... Around here I've seen trees up and decorations on the house and in the yard before Thanksgiving!
