You get a like for the photo. But a thumbs down for liquorice. It’s disgusting!

Thumbs up for both - as I go to the cupboard and grab a packet of Fazer Salmiakki - though I've run out of Fazer Tyrkisk Peber. :)

Liquorice powder can be used to sweeten things - we often add a bit to cooking apple. Maybe vanilla extract and/or cardamom as well. In moderation, there is no noticeable liquorice taste, just a gentle sweetness. An excellent way of reduce sugar intake.

I only have a bit of sugar in my porridge. That’s about it. Well apart from a bit of chocolate every other month!

We are NOT supposed to feed the wildlife around here -- it's right in our bylaws for the condominium. Sure, it's tempting, and people think it's cute and fun to watch the ducks or gulls or whatever going after the bread, but it is harmful to them, yes. I think it was a new neighbor who had tossed the bread out there, but I'm not sure. I was actually not out on the boardwalk at the time, I was on the landing in our building, about to go down the steps when I paused to check something on the camera, and then set it down on a ledge for a moment. I happened to look out at the lake, saw the ducks and realized that they were grabbing at something in the water, so picked up the camera again, hastily adjusted my settings and fired off a few shots before then going on down to the boardwalk.

The guy I think may have been the one who had been tossing out the bread was on his deck, which is just slightly elevated above the boardwalk, but he was talking on his cell phone so I just waved casually at him as I passed. If he had been available to have a conversation, I would've mentioned that we're not supposed to feed the ducks or other wildlife.

Sugar in porridge? Blasphemer ?. Porridge is made with water, salt and oats with a bit of milk or cream to taste added after cooking. Glycyrrhizin is the sweet component of licorice root and is tens of times sweeter gram for gram than sugar.

Spoken like a true Scotsman! Us Southern softies like a bit of sugar with it. Mrs AFB puts honey in hers.
