I really am enjoying your landscapes, Doylem.

I don't know what it is about them, they have a different sort of quality about them. It has to do with the colours and er, smoothness…is that just the way your location appears or is there a trick?
They are very good.

It’s exactly two years since I ‘went digital’, and I’ve basically used just the one lens on my Nikon D200: the kit 18-70mm. So I’ve probably tried to shoot pix that use the best characteristics of a budget lens lens rather than fretting about its drawbacks. And to compensate for the fact that it’s not the sharpest lens you can buy, I shoot mostly with a tripod, so I can stick to f8, f11 or thereabouts.

The tripod slows me down. I leave the camera on it, so I can walk about, eat a sandwich and wait for the light to become ‘interesting’. I’m happy to wait for quite a while. It’s all about the light for me (I’m a bit obsessive...) rather than some Photoshop effect.

I’ve just splashed out on a Nikon 50mm 1.8 lens. It’s so different! I’m trying to find out what it does best; it all takes time...

Great capture... I could see it in a book about bird behaviour...

A pair of sparrowhawks come to my bird-table (they're not after the seed or the nuts... ). But they're wonderful birds: killing machines. And, best of all, they look me straight in the eye... like the bird in your pic. None of the other birds do that...

I wonder, what is that thing?

During our time in Paris this past spring, I would always get up as early as possible and walk around to catch the wonderful morning light. I stumbled upon this on one of these walks.

EDIT: Wow, this looks underexposed here! On my monitor at home and on SmugMug, it looks much brighter.

Nice picture, however I can't understand the irony (or else why is your post named "irony"?)... Is it supposed to be related to the broken ad of pont neuf?

Just bought a Nikon D40, and I feel like I'm a bit of an amateur photographer now. Saw a really cool spider on our back porch, and I did the best I could with what I had. Any advice would be great; also, anyone know what kind of spider this is?
