Colours never quite came out right with this shot, if anyone would like to tweak and make it look better, I'd happily re-edit my original based on your inputs :)

This is a slightly modified version of a photo I submitted for the weekly contest. It was taken on Columbus day around 7:30 in the morning. If I had gotten my lazy self out of bed a little earlier, there would have been mist coming off the water. However; then I might have missed the geese flying by. I'm not sure which would have ultimately made a better picture. This is essentially SOOC with only auto tone applied in Photoshop. I thought the colors came across well enough that no other processing was needed.

Fashion on the fells...

My kind of fashion. She looks begotten by the landscape itself.

Beautiful as usual. Reminds me of the fire signals in The Lord of the Rings (first book/section- The Fellowship of the Ring).

Thanks, fcortese, though I have to admit I'm not familiar with those signals. I'll have to look them up.

[EDIT: I did look them up and found this video clip. I definitely see the similarities at about 1:30! :D ]

I do see mist coming off of the water, and the geese add a lot to the image. I didn't see the contest version, so I don't know what you changed, but the one thing I would consider editing would be the big white hole in the sky. Painting some color over it could help that area play nicely with the rest of the image. Have a look at this photographer's portfolio for some examples of what I'm talking about: link. He very often includes the sun in the frame and then processes the images carefully so that the effect is harmonious and easy on the eyes.

I like the depth of field and the overall range. Can you provide EXIF and any PP details?
Was this hand-held? And how are them Georgia apples?

Saved by the cloud…

I spent a long while scouting up and down the coastline near Poreč, Croatia, looking for a fairly specific composition that I had in mind. I wanted to be in a little cove (there are loads of them along the Croatian coast) so that I would have fingers of land sticking out along the horizon, with an opening revealing the open sea. I wanted rocks in the foreground that would point toward that opening, and I wanted to catch the setting sun twinkling on its way down in that opening. So much for the last part: in all of my scouting and hopping from cove to cove, I got confused about which way was west. I ended up with a composition that, much to my surprise, was pointing very far to the north. Oops. I only realized my mistake when the sun started to set (in an explosion of glorious colors) way off to my left.

Amazingly, Mother Nature apparently took pity on me and parked one very cool cloud right over my opening, begging for it to be my subject in lieu of the sun. In retrospect, I think her idea was probably better than mine.
