Polar Bear

Had an amazing opportunity to experience an Arctic photo expedition in July. Travelled by ship (a small light icebreaker) around and north of Svalbard to approximately 82 degrees latitude which put us just below the polar ice cap.

Photographing wild polar bears, walrus, seals, arctic fox and various arctic shorebirds was quite a thrill. This shot was taken at about 3:30 in the morning as there was 24 hours of daylight with the softest light from about 10:00 pm to 4:00 am.

Loving it. Where’s it?
Cheers. Plas Power woods near Coedpoeth (Wrexham) in North Wales. Very easy to get to.

It is all about the repeating patterns apparently.

Still reminds me of macrame - very popular in the 70's along with bell-bottom flares and spider plants. Unfortunately I remember....:)

Beautiful.
Sounds like my idea of a great holiday. Not sure Mrs AFB would agree!

Thanks AFB. Yea, not everyone would appreciate the long flights (four of them) to get there, some very rough seas and a sound sleep schedule...forget about it, but I loved it. My first experience in the Arctic was so memorable that I've promised myself that I'll return.

Nice bit of kit!

Congratulations on the new camera !!

Cheers :)

Hugh

Thank’s a lot! IBIS, fast AF, HAF is really great. I still have to get used to taking pictures with it, it’s a bit ‘different’ :) Macros are different as well - On a FF @ min focusing distance, 1:1, objects appear smaller than in those images where APS-C crops surroundings.
