I was out with the camera and stopped at the kiosk to pick up my mail, and heading toward home, walked by a tree that is close to the sidewalk. I suddenly realized that out of the corner of my eye I had seen a squirrel just behind the tree. Really close.... I stopped. Slowly backed up. Awkwardly fumbled with the camera since I had my hands full of the mail and my keys.....

Well, Hello There! :)

Lovely. I like squirrels.

I got to investigate a huge abandoned factory here, where agricultural equipment used to be manufactured, but the company has since shifted on to much smaller premises, with far fewer employees & much more automated production lines. It was quite a depressing scene to think how many families & members of the local community would have been supported by this place. There would have been generations of families that worked here.

It was a bit eerie in places, where it literally looked like the last production shift had just ended.

This was the base of an old press, now filled with toxic sludge, probably riddled with heavy metals & nasty chemicals... Idiots have been in & chucked stupid things in here, so we locked up on our way out!

What I particularly loved about this spot was the old rail lines that came right up to this machine, so new metal sheets could be delivered easily to it! They are up top, centre of frame.

Ah, the idiot. One creature that is never hard to find in the wild.

Night Falls
October 2018

The Buchan Burn Waterfall on the Merrick trail under the dark night sky of the Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park, SW Scotland.

Taken in darkness, this is by far the most technically difficult image that I've ever attempted and many hours went into it. I fully intend on doing more shots like this having learned a lot from the experience.

Fuji X-T2 with Samyang 12mm f2 NCS lens. No filters.
Foreground: 3 images focus stacked @ 2 mins / f2 / ISO 200
Sky: 16 images stacked and aligned @ 15s / f2/ ISO 6400
Composited and finished in Photoshop CC 2019

Huge thank you to @kenoh for giving me an extra eye behind the scenes when editing - I appreciate the help as I felt I was getting tunnel vision having stared at the image for hours in editing through various phases of compositing. I owe you a print or a beer or something!
