Quite pleased with himself...

Camera: NIKON

ISO: 200
Exposure: 1/2000 sec

Something about this one really grabs me. I think it's the look in his eye and the splash coming off the ear. Great subject.

It wasn't cropped by much. This was taken with the 24-70 at almost minimum focus distance while the bird (Saker Falcon) was sitting on the handlers hand. The bird was fascinated by the large lens opening "looking" at it and the winking of the aperture diaphragm. The handler told me that the bird was interested and not threatened, so it was safe for me to gradually get closer.

Another photo from a bit further away. [LINK]

And my "official" photo of the day.. :D

Bad in many ways, but I like the look of it anyway...

Holy ****! That is the most fierce animal shot I've seen posted on these boards. Look at him! He looks so damn wicked!

Beautifully stunning pics. Can you guys edit your posts to put down what you shot it with? Not that it matters, it's mostly talent (which obviously you guys have ;)). Just wanna know. Thanks!

Excellent shot! :)

You could sell that one.

Thanks. Actually, I think that splash is coming off his tail...:)

One for today.

Backyard

Had some fun in the backyard tonight with my wide angle 17 and a flashlight. Long exposure light drawing.

I'm being bad... I couldn't pick just one. First time I'll break the rule...

Beginner's Corner.
Can I ask why you shot that at f/4 instead of, say, f/11?

It's a good question... and there's no technical rationale for why I did, other than I was actually experimenting with the lens, and for a series of shots, mostly of much closer objects, I was shooting wide open. When I turned the lens into the distance the first few shots were at the same wide aperture, and then I did stop it down for following shots. But, I liked this (one of the first exposures) a bit better, and it just so happened to be f/4 where I could get a nice high shutter speed hand-held. Remember, with DX format it's like shooting a 450mm lens.

I am also experimenting to see how low of a shutter speed I can get away with hand-held, and there will be a lot of shots made that don't really make "sense" in photo rule book, and some I might actualy like, but my main purpose at the moment is to learn how I can best use this lens in different situations. I've always found that it can take a little time to really know how to use different pieces of gear to their best advantage. I'm not there yet with this older, long Nikkor glass.

Anyway, thanks for asking, and I hope I answered the question for you... :)
