Especially standing in the middle of the station concourse with your neck bent back at 90 degrees to look up at this...:)

hehehe. No security guards pushing you around? "nothing to see Sir, please move along"

I like the photo, but I've been playing with it. I somehow like it better if it's not symmetrical (cropped at the bottom).

You might be on to something there Oblomow - I have a couple of shots more on the diagonal but why don't you post your version and let us see?

I'm halfway through a B&W film on my Lordomat C35 (1950s 35mm) but I keep forgetting to take it out with me.

Cheers :)

Hugh

So, batteries in the Nikon, it seems to be working. Waiting for a shed load of film (I'll need it) to arrive. lenses cleaned, focus practiced. So few findings so far... bit tongue in cheek to brighten your day

1. Need a bigger memory card as 36 per go is not enough for my keeper rate right now
2. Where's the button for zoom for focus assist? no focus peaking boo!
3. What the?!?! only full f-stop settings for shutter speed!?! whats that about!
4. Nice lovely bright viewfinder and loving spotting the various holes and mirrors that give you the analogue read out in the VF for shutter and aperture.
5. Stop down buttons (DoF preview) ah! never got that before, now I do...
6. Metering on Nikon has three readout settings... too bright! too dark! just right... time to revise the exposure triangle
7. Auto ISO... I miss you my love... :-(
8. ooh! manual ISO, lets do exposure compensation by telling the camera I have a different ASA rated film in it..
9. Remember, load, aim, fire, reload.... bolt action camera...
10. These things look freaking awesome! They arent helping to calm my lust monster after a chrome bodied Leica M AT ALL!
11. Where's Live view? oh yeah, take the camera away from your eye and look around!
12. Chimping? chimping in analogue world is not constantly checking the output on the screen, it is actually jumping up and down flailing your arms about like a loon because you ran out of film just before the decisive moment...
13. No taking a mulligan on that last shot of your feet... yes, the guys in CostCo WILL be falling about laughing at your picture when you get them processed!
14. Center weighted average metering. Yeah, any type of metering you want as long as it is centre weighted... live with it...
15. This bad boy is a speed demon! add the motor winder and this baby will rock out 2 frames per second! beat that Mr Nikon D4s! no wait... oh!
16. When you own a Sony A7 or a Fuji, and put a manual lens on it thinking you are Cartier-Bresson reincarnate ? Going all retro cool and all? yeah, no, think again... not even half the story.

LOVING IT!

*NB*:- will be bored soon...

Grand Canal Dock, Dublin, Ireland. This site is about to change radically, with construction of a new office/apartment scheme on the site of the derelict flour mills to the left:

Is that that weird skinning apartment building just off centre there? Saw it in June and it just looks too narrow to be able to stand up.

Lovely shot. That area is lovely to walk round next to the music theatre right?

Testing out some filters, this is the Sponge Effect. Makes the scene kinda moody :-/

Wow...nicely done anotherscotsman. Beautiful light very well captured with a perfect exposure.

Cheers C&A - stayed in the same area for a couple of hours round sunset to see if the sky got interesting - this was about the best it got. Pity, but you take what you can. The double light source on the water (sun + reflection from building) helped the interest. Waited till the sun went behind the Empire State to try to avoid blow-out.

Hmm... personally I like the symmetry of the original.

It has a beautiful symmetry, no doubt about that. But I found that I was not looking around in the image. (if you get what I mean).

I must admit I thought the symmetry suited the geometric nature of the beast but I get where Oblomow is coming from in terms of introducing a bit of imbalance for interest.

If you mean the Alto Vetro building (see below), then yes!

Yes, it's the other side of the dock from the theatre and yes, it's a fabulous place to walk around in; a great example of urban regeneration done well.

Totally get what you mean, just shows we all see different things. I get what you were doing but I suppose it comes down to the initial impression we get when we see an image. Interesting experiment isnt it?

Totally! wish it was there when I was living there but I suppose cafe culture hadn't goten a foothold over Guinness culture back then! ha ha ha.

Lovely images as usual mate! and yes thats the very building. Looks like it could fall over any second!

In June I walked from the Hilton up at Leeson Street - used to be the Burlington (?) when I was there, down the canal all the way to the convention centre via here. Lovely walk.
