Thanks. It was a surprising find. You have to visit the canyon at different times to see different colors. Yellows come early, reds later. This was a red day.Wow. That’s an awesome mix of colours.
What a beauty.Spotted this guy hunting in my back yard today. I kept my dog inside for the pictures just in case. I guess I never realized how big hawks are.

Thanks. I wish I had a lens with some more reach. Or the guts to get closer to it.What a beauty.
What did you use? Thanks. I wish I had a lens with some more reach. Or the guts to get closer to it.
Sony 70-200mm f4 on a Sony a7ii. Had to crop it way down but I guess it looks ok. The pesky guy is still out there so maybe I’ll try to get closer without getting my face clawed off lol. What did you use?
Unless your a small rodent, I'm sure you are safe.Sony 70-200mm f4 on a Sony a7ii. Had to crop it way down but I guess it looks ok. The pesky guy is still out there so maybe I’ll try to get closer without getting my face clawed off lol.
Images like these should be motivational enough! Keep them coming.Since the car interior shot went down well in the weekly contest, here’s one I don’t think I posted first time around. Comments always appreciated.

Perhaps it's the lack of opportunity this summer but I'm having a hard time getting motivated to get the camera out and about.
I'm 6'6 and those claws scare meUnless your a small rodent, I'm sure you are safe.
Give it a go. Wear something green to blend in with the foliage and go slowly. Just remember to have a fast shutter speed selected so if he takes off, you can get a bird in flight shot.
Well as he hung around a while, I guess he'll be back! I had a much smaller sparrow hawk in the garden the other week, and his claws were impressive enough.I'm 6'6 and those claws scare me
Unfortunately I missed his departure.

(but I wasn't scared!)
Next time I’ll try to be a little more risky. Hopefully he comes back. Or maybe this is a good reason for a new lens. But the claws from the hawk might be a little less damaging than what my wife will do if I buy another lens right now.I bet you could get an awesome take off shot if you approached him. My experience with raptors is that they find humans a nuisance when we come close, as we just ruined their hunting grounds. They do like small pets though. Disclaimer: don’t blame me if you get clawed!
