Ellios Island Ferry.jpg

Ellis Island Ferry circa 1963-4. i was out on the Hudson in my little 14 foot boat taking pictures of the Tall Ships that were docked at Manhattan. I went over to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island where this relic caught my eye. Originally taken on Perutz slide film, I 'scanned' the slide with my new jig for my iPhone. Since it lacked any color of it's own, converted image to B&W. Then sharpened it Pixelmator Pro. I have been looking for this picture for years, finally found it in a tray of slides of Tall Ships. Can't even remember what camera I used, probably my Miranda.

The character himself used English words. There was no universal translator involved, as I remember.
Technically, the character spoke his native language – like most aliens in ST. We hear "English" due to the universal translator. It's explicitely explained in the episode that the UT can only translate the words of the Tamarian language, but not the meaning.

I thought it was because they were mostly American or English actors? :p

Long Beach Washington. I stepped out onto the beach from the path, and saw this young lady kneeling on the sand. I walked up, and we chatted. She said that one sand sculpture had collapsed, and another was in progress. The man in the background, I don't know what he was doing. My canvas walking shoes got filled with sand, again.

Then using the UT was nearly totally worthless. I can understand some words in French, but if I rely on cherry picking a few words, I have no idea of the actual meaning of the conversation. *shrug* I thought that, in that episode, the universal translator wasn't used. It's been a while.

So yesterday should have produced some really good images. The camera that is with you is always the best for the job, unless it is riding inside of your dry suit and it is just way too much work to extract it.

IOW It's back to the archives, from the 2006 slideshow. A little spot near Jaffray, BC called Rosen Lake. My original Olympus 3.2MP P&S camera.
