This just popped up in my head.. I'm having a photography course, where we take analog b&w photos and do the dark room copying stuff and such.

So I thought that I never see any photos from other countries other than those obvious pictures of some stupid buildings and drunk people having fun.

So, here are two a bit more unusual pictures of my home city, Helsinki (Finland).

Nice shots - I'll have to go and take a few of my new home town - great contrast to DC and Alexandria :D

very good pics windowlicker. it might be nice if, the next time you printed the second one, you dodged those two light sources at the top of the pic, though. they're awfully bright, and distract me from the nice light patterns from the cars and and the pattern of the clouds. really nice work, though.

I live in Cedar Rapids, IA, here are a couple interesting shots I took with descriptions:

IMAG0109.sized.jpg

The street I used to live on (center of a bunch of businesses) with 5 second exposure at night.

IMAG0114.sized.jpg

A nature trail (Sac & Fox named after the Indian trail that proceeded it).

IMAG0113.sized.jpg

An abandoned barn me and the girlfriend found on the trail (Sac & Fox).

IMAG0041.sized.jpg

Quaker Oats... we 0wn all your Oatmeal =]

IMAG0035.sized.jpg

Our Coal Burning power plant. It burns corn hulls from the neighbor (Quaker Oats) now in a 30% ratio

IMAG0055.sized.jpg

Our "metroplis" Skyline, at just after dusk. Another 5 second exposure shot.

IMAG0146.sized.jpg

Old abandoned Streetcar tracks. Back in the day when a nickel could get you across town.

IMAG0048.sized.jpg

Another view of Downtown CR, this ones during the day. Quaker Oats is on the far left.

Hope you guys enjoy these pics, sorry if it uses all your bandwidth.

I really like this one! For some reason it looks pretty familiar..

IMAG0146.sized.jpg

This one's also nice. The town I grew up in (I actually moved out just a couple of months ago) had this place we used to play at when we were kids. I still don't quite know what the place was, but it had abandon buildings (and we smashed the windows with rocks) and railway tracks.

Nice posts so far :)

Here's a shot from my area I took yesterday. I think it ended up quite nicely, and all I've done in Photoshop is increasing the contrast a little. The light were really orange and bright when it passed through the fog, and I shot it at 480 mm with my dad's 300D.

Ok here's two more pictures. The four I've posted now form a piece of art so to say.. they tell a story about my daily trip from home to school and back.

so here are the two final pictures:

Too bad the photos don't look the way they should when put online. Maybe I should have left the white margins there. Oh what ever. Enjoy ;)

Windowlicker - your shots are SUPERB! Analogue is still best

Thanks! The best thing is that I don't know anything about photography and all those picts are more or less mistakenly good ;)

But think about it: if they were color photos, they would look like poop.

Ruh-Roh, Not GEORGE!! BOOM! ;D it's funny that people actually have this kind of stuff on their yard.. this is something you would never see in Finland. Many people had "Peace" flags hanging out of their windows when the war in iraq was near, though.

This is my home town, Dursley, in the Cotswolds in England. I like how in this picture the town almost gets lost in the countryside. My house is in the group near the middle of this shot.

That is so true.. The buildings look like a big field of flowers (same as those blue ones on the front).

Is that a bigger city on the horizon or just a set of tall trees?

I just had a thought. Do you have a bigger copy of the image? It would make a pretty nice desktop.. I would be glad to receive a 1280+ wide copy of the photo, if you're willing to post it here.-.
