I visited my mom where she teaches 2nd grade at an elementary school on the day before I moved to Savannah. Got some good shots of her class at recess. I really like this one, it makes me happy and forget all the bad stuff going on in the world.

I had a cold this weekend so I couldn't go running. Making lemonade from life's lemons, I went for a hike instead, carting my big camera and a tripod to places I would normally only have run past with a P&S on hand. I was, therefore, able to take some shots had been thinking about for a while.

These rocks have been intriguing me for some time, and seemed a good spot for either an HDR treatment or a panorama work-up. I did both. Panning vertically, I captured three views at 24mm, each with 3 to 6 dark-to-light exposures. (For the low angle view, I took 6 shots, and for the medium and high angle shots I took 3 shots each). At home I generated the 3 tone-mapped, HDR images and then stitched them. I also tried a resizing program, "Downsize", which reduced the file and added the frame and watermark.

It worked out pretty well. I look forward to the fall light and colours to do some more.

Some might wonder how HDR and panorama helps. I am finding that, properly applied, it can make a scene look like it does to a person, in person.

Here is one photo from the twelve that went into the Rocky Ridge composite above.

About the only things well exposed are the leaves to the right. Everything else is too dark or too light. That's not how a person sees it, of course.

Also, while i used a quite wide angle on the lens (24mm), you still can't see the tree above the rocks, like you would if you were there.

The difference is remarkable, no?

So, I felt a bit guilty taking pics at a graveyard at night, but I came up with this idea and had to try it out. I'm not overly impressed with my results, however, I did like the idea and will probably attempt to do some more in near future.
