Sweet! My husband has been getting into it. Its a neat process. So far hes brewed an IPA and ESB, both all grain.

Glad to see some other homebrewers on here. I recently brewed a pumpkin Wee Heavy. Here it is in the fermentor:

Last beer I had was a Maudite. A very nice red beer, which doesn't have that strong of a taste for its 8% abv. Extremely good, grab some if you can, all Unibroue products are good (altough I don't know if you can find them outside of Canada, and even outside of Québec). :)

All of them are the best value Belgian style beers.
I can get them in Michigan.
Their price is around USD 7.99 in comparison to the imports, they are very good.
Real Belgian Beers are no comparison, however these canadians are the best not made in Belgium I have ever had.
My favorite is La Find Du Monde:

Wow - 7,99$ for a small beer? There must be a lot of import tax, since I just bought a 12-pack of assorted Unibroue beers (Blonde de Chambly, Trois Pistoles, Maudite, Don de Dieu) for 14$ :)

I've never had a Fin du Monde but if I have to suggest you one, I'd go with the Éphémère au Cassis (blackcurrant flavored). You can really taste the fruit but it isn't too sweet, it still tastes like beer. Very refreshing.

Sorry for the confusion, I am not refering to the small one, I mean the large bottle. A typical Belgian of that size is around 12 to 18 USD.
I haven't tried that one yet.
I kind of imagine the flavor, as Cassis Liquor is very sweet, used in the Brazilian dessert 'Crema de Papaya', and very nice also.
Those beers with fruits are called Lambic beers, not my favorites but way better than a bud light!

Had my first beer experience a few weeks back and me and my friend ordered the Sampler(with six shots glasses of different beer) at Yard House, if any of you guys know that place.

I didn't really like the taste of beer. But I guess I wanted to try it again and I bought one of these a week back:

It tasted a bit watery to me. Is that how guinness normally tastes like? It tasted somewhat sweet too but still had that bitter taste at the back of my throat. I kinda liked that combination. Oh and it didn't have the nitrogen widget or anything like that. I thought it did after watching some youtube videos of it.

The nitrogen ball comes in the canned Guinnesses. Good choice, one of my favorites when I'm not at a microbrewery.

Any cheapo beer is literally watered down, and just because Guinness is a stout is no different. A higher quality (craft) stout will have much richer flavors. You'll be able to taste hints of chocolate and coffee malts, and it won't taste watered down. Oatmeal stouts are an even smoother form of stout. Read through this threat a bit if you're curious about beer.

If, however, you feel compelled to stick to Guinness, go with the Foreign Extra variety as opposed to their standard Draught. It's a vast improvement.

Clutch Beer. It was ok, but I think this was the first time I had a sour ale.

Image

I had a 10 oz pour of this last weekend. I hated it. It's the first NB beer I've absolutely hated. It is marketed as a sour beer so sour is right on the money. I went back to the same restaurant I got it at and the bartender agreed with my assessment. I told him that the taste remained throughout two more beers after the fact and that was truly annoying. I won't be buying that again.

On the other hand, I had a IBA from Southern Tier yesterday that was scrumptious. I'm hoping to find it at Total Wine because it was that good.

I got it as a gift from a friend when I attended his wedding a couple of months ago. Being a Clutch fan I had to drink it, though I did consider just setting it aside and not drinking.

My roommate last year got me hooked on microbrews.

I took a SweetWater Winter Tackle Box back home with me after visiting a friend at Georgia Tech.

The Exodus Porter is my favorite from the box, followed by the 420 -an extra pale ale. Their Festive Ale is also good.

Being a Georgia boy I drink a good bit of SweetWater and Terapin, but since it's about to be Christmas time, I have been saving up for gifts by drinking this...

Yes, the draught is very watery tasting. You need to get the yellow-labeled Extra Stout or the Foreign Extra to get the proper Guinness taste.

Even that leaves a lot to be desired, although it's an improvement. Guinness does not lend itself to being sold in bottle's or cans. The only way to genuinely appreciate this wonderful drink is to get in on tap at pub or bar that know's what they're doing. You need to drink it somewhere that sells decent quantities of the stuff, it's awful if it's been sat in the pipes for any length of time. Here are my tips for Guinness drinking Nirvana :

  • Never ever drink Guinness in a "Trendy Bar".
  • Upon entering unfamiliar territory scout the pub for Guinness drinkers. If there's at least two you're onto a winner.
  • If you can help it, don't let a bird pull your pint. They don't drink it, they don't have the same appreciation for it.
  • Drinking a pint is quite a visual experience. Ask for a tulip 'Guinness' glass.
  • The first drink must be sunk with aplomb. You must consume at least 1/3 of your first pint when first raising the glass.
  • Make sure you get your fibre supplements in the day before. Helps with the aftermath.

Follow these rules and you'll love every sip. It truly is a drink of the gods.
