4,000lbs guided missiles. :D

its true though. people in north america always want the biggest car when its not needed. then they complain about paying so much for gas.

vw polo is coming to north america next year i think. vw has awesome small cars.

The funny thing is that Americans say they 'need' these massive, powerful cars but for many of them, the roads are perfectly straight and have multiple lanes. There's no need for a 3L engine when you're turning no corners.

Surely, following their logic it should be the Europeans who have the giant engines to compensate for all the time spent slowing down on twisty roads and accelerating again?

The largest issue is the the United States is one giant open field compared to Europe. There are many many more cities in Europe, and they are much closer together, so the need for cars in general is lower, and "city" cars are much more suited for this lifestyle. Once that thought has been brought up, now you can ask why lots of us americans want huge cars

Summer + MGB = FTW (Thank you, thank you very much)

I hate this nonsense argument we get from across the Atlantic. Yes, the cities are closer together... so what?

There's a limit to how far ANYONE would drive on a regular basis - if I'm not going to drive over an hour to work then it's likely that my compatriot in North America would be the same. Whether the cities are closer together has nothing to do with it.

Even if your argument wasn't nonsense, I still don't see why you think that more driving means you need a bigger car. A more comfortable car, maybe, but that doesn't mean it has to be bigger or have a bigger engine.

Geeze, everywhere I've lived in America has had plenty of curves and bends. Needless to say, I drive a ForTwo

98 Infiniti QX4, getting a cold air intake and grille guard put on on Tuesday.
It has 123k miles and counting! Runs great and goes anywhere with A/T's on it. It's my dream car...'cept I want to get an '01 or newer version...in black.

God, I get so sick of hearing people bitch about what OTHER PEOPLE drive. Americans like big, gas guzzling SUV's. So what? Myself, I'm not an SUV or truck person at all, but if someone else is, that is THEIR business. If they wanna buy a $60,000 Escalade, put 26" spinners on it and never take it off paved roads, more power to 'em. They are spending their own money to buy something they enjoy.

Myself, I plan on buying a Mustang GT as my next car. A gas guzzling V8.

I don't drive that many miles a year. Probably 5,000, give or take a few, so it's not a huge deal to me to have to pay for the gas.

I'm really not trying to be an ass here or anything and I know this is a forum where everyone can express their opinion, but it is just getting really redundant. If you don't like someone else's vehicle, just remember that you're not the one that's driving it.

To get the thread back on track, here's another pic of my Elantra:

Yeah we need more cars like that here in the states. Get all these crazy drivers out of their 4,000lb "guided missiles"

Hey, I enjoy my 5,500lb british guided missile, but once I move I'll want to move to something smaller and more fun to drive in towns. I hope that once the Polo arrives here in the US we get the Polo GTI right off the bat.
