My 2005 Ford Focus (ZX3 SES, Five-Speed Manual)

Taken in the Flint Hills of Kansas near Strong City. I had spent a long weekend at my grandma's out in rural Kansas and traversed a lot of dirt roads in rainy weather. Photo from mid April. I bought the car new off the lot in 2005 - so far mechanically it's solid as a rock - only problem is it tends to have people run into it, three times so far in four years.

It would look better if it had silver wheels and silver diamonds.

Oh I don't know, I think it looks pretty smart as it is. Quite an expensive car for a first car though.

Here's mine. Peugeot 306 1.9 Diesel. No turbo, not much power, battered and bruised but still going strong. :D

How do you like your Mazda 3? I'm about to get a car, and the Mazda 3 looks very appealing. Haven't test driven anything yet, but I was just wondering what your impressions were of the '10 model, handling, fuel economy, fit & finish, stereo quality, wind/road noise.. etc.

Seems to have been reviewed well.

Sorry for the late reply, I was not paying attention to this thread for awhile. I have put about 1,600 miles on the car and so far so good :) Fuel econ is about 26 mixed city / interstate. I averaged about 32mpg on an 800 mile round trip last weekend going about 70 most of the time. The seats are great as well. Very supportive.

Fit and finish is excellent. Even better than in my 2006 Mazda 3i Touring. There are more soft plastics and the layout is clean and everything is solid. I don't get any rattles or noise. The stereo is pretty damn good for being the stock 6 speaker system with good highs and solid punch on the lows.

I have the 6-speed manual sport. The clutch lets out very late and doesn't give you a lot of time before it catches so that takes a bit of getting used to if you drove a more forgiving manual before but once you get it down shifts are smooth and the gears are easy to find. Handling is fantastic and incredibly responsive.

Only gripe is road and wind noise is higher than I would like. It's not a problem in town but once you get over 60mph you start to notice. The tires give off a bit of noise and wind is apparent on the interstate. It's not terrible but it could be better. It is louder than my old 2006 model. The good news is the AC is frosty cold and takes very little time to get there. A huge imporvement over my 2006 which never seemed to really get very cold.

For the price you get a lot. I paid under 20K for the S model. A Civic with the same features would set you back about 4K more (I compared numerous cars before getting another 3). Hope that helps :)

Awesome. Sounds like a great car. To bad about the wind/ road noise, but I guess you have to weigh your pros and cons out in the compact segment.

Thanks for you review, it really helps!

Go pick up the Juice Box 3 chip for your car and let the twin turbos do their thang. You pick up almost an additional hundred horsepower, and you can yank it when you need to take it in for warranty/whatever.

You know what's funny, I actually own the JB+, and a BMS intake. I'm thinking about the JB3, but my Sennheiser HD800 purchase is putting that on hold for a few weeks lol.

Love the 335. When I am looking for a new car in 2 years, it is on my list.

Just hoping no more Chris Bangle design abominations at BMW. Hopefully Adrian van Hooydunk can keep things fresh and exciting or it will be a used vehicle for me.

My Peugeot 306 after a year of being sat doing nothing:
DSC_0019.JPG

I've not used it for ages because I've not needed to drive it (use the underground to get into work and stuff) but now I've been to track days and watched friends having a great time in their cars, so I'm going to get this ready for track days for the summer.

I got a new battery for it, took the spark plugs out, cranked the engine to get the oil flowing again, put the spark plugs back in and it started straight off.

It will get a good clean next week, some 15" alloys to replace the 17"s which are too big and don't really help handling. Then once its MOTed and Taxed, I'll be stripping it of anything unnecessary and taking it on track days :D there should be some good pics of the car then, rather than the really depressing one above.

As far as little French shopping trolleys go, I quite like those. What are they like to drive?

Its great for a first car its not got too bad power it's more nippy then fast though.

Enjoy FCS, I was gonna show the C2 but the weather looks to be average. Get some more pics, loving the job so far. Needs dropped further though, that would be my only tweak. :)

It's going on coilies once they get released so should be a 60mm drop then as i hate the current height! FCS was amazing should of gone weather was amazing too i got badly sun burnt!

It would look better if it had silver wheels and silver diamonds.

it used to but then it looked ordinary i wanted something unique!

Now that is nice. I like fast german saloons :D
I'm sure you know this, but it was called a "Cossie" for its engine which was designed & built by Cosworth, UK.
Quite a few "race-spec" Ford's in the UK were fitted with Cosworth engines too back in the 80's - not the same engines of course.

http://www.worldcarfans.com/1021101.001/1986-mercedes-benz-190-e-23-16v

Yeah, the term usually goes as 190e Cossie or cosworth here in the states. I am also aware that Cosworth was involved with the design and manufacturer of many other cars, including that of the Ford Sierra Cosworth, A car that we only saw a small echo of in the form of the re-badged Merkur XR4ti.

From what I understood, Cosworth was only involved with development of the heads, with Mercedes actually doing the manaufacturing work based on the Cosworth design.

1989 Porsche 944 Turbo S
This is the only baltic blue turbo s ever imported to the US!
I will never, ever sell this car.

I am not so sure about that. I know of two in Minnesota (huge 951 fan base here), one was purchased new at Carousel Porsche out of Minneapolis Minnesota, and has a fairly active owner, with regards to local European car events. The only reason I know that, is I asked the owner about the car, as I had never seen that color until His. He told me of the other in the area. Hopefully it appears at one of the next events so I can get some shots of it :) .
