and the fact it's clasisic car insurance means that we get a good rate...

I'm not quite sure I believe that. Classic car insurance in the UK is an absolute nightmare. I've eventually settled on a new Fiesta which I love, but I've dabbled in a good few cars since I was 17 (now 19) and I looked at getting classic car insurance on a 1979 Lotus Espirit. Every single insurance company, including specialist classic companies either laughed it off or gave absolutely outrageous quotes. Luckily my insurance is on the company policy, so I can drive my dad's cars as well (so I get a bit of speed and fun with the roof down!) but I was really disappointed at the time. I don't see a 17 year old being given a policy on a classic car unless you commit fraud under a parents name.

319g/km of CO2 puts it in one of the highest UK vehicle tax bands at £405 per year!

Followed by a measly 21.1mpg on every journey you make. That huge engine sure comes in handy for merging in to 45mph traffic on the highway huh?

Oh give me a break  .

I guess some people would rather not enjoy life.

I've highlighted the reason for the outrageous quotes :)
Of course insurance is going to be expensive on that, there's hardly any of them around, and are expensive to repair. Not only that, but it was classed as a super-car. If it was something like a MG Midget (I had one at 20) then insurance would be much more reasonable.

The Morris Minor is one of the cheapest cars to insure, be you an Adult or a Student...

Any car insurance in the UK is a nightmare, even at 25 it's still a complete rip off.

I am not up with that sort of stuff... But I understand, that if you have been with a company for a long time, you get better rates?

Which companies, and seriously, the Esprit isn't a classic, it's an aging supercar... Insurance would be crazy if you are 17! I am talking on a completely different scale here!

I don't think so... She is the named driver for the car...

Isn't this the user who lied about owning a Bentley?

Eff off... And don't speak on the subject again...

I really didn't want this to take up lots of posts.. But if you really need to ask, please PM me!

We would buy it with the intention of restoring it (Faithfully, to a small budget!) and then myself having it as my first car in 4 years time...

My view on restoring (very) old cars for use on the roads has always been to do it properly on a 'money is no object' basis and make it a labour of love rather than of convenience and working to any sort of budget. You really do not want to be cutting corners with stuff like this because it could quite literally be the last thing you do.

As for having it as a first car - not meaning to be a buzzkill at all but while it will undoubtedly be very cool to own and drive something like this at a young age it is also not particularly sensible. A 2 litre straight six doesn't sound like much for today's cars but it is a completely different proposition in something that is nearly half a century old. Rear wheel drive, no traction or stability control, no ABS and if you are unfortunate enough to hit something there will be no soft deformable plastics, airbags or crumple zones to protect you and probably just the old style lap belts to keep you in the thing as opposed to the three point harnesses we all take for granted these days. Whereas any contemporary 'banger' more typical of a first car will resolve all of those issues. Just considering the practicalities here.

The only sort of people who restore cars with money no object are seriously rich people on seriously expensive cars...

You can spend £15000 on Mechanicals, and £10000 on Bodywork, and still get a tidy car... Buying a classic car In my Dads words "Is a never ending Project" and so... You can never expect to finish a car on £6000 but it will get it roadworthy....

I don't ever want to have to drive an ecobox, and I hope never will have to... Apart from maybe to pass my test in...

So...

Very Twilight - nice.

Personally, I would not have put the Volvo 'shields' on the front wings, I do not think the original prancing horse shields look very good on Ferraris let alone any other car. But appreciate it is not my car so have no problems with what other people choose to do to their cars.

My two cars
2004 Cavalier Sport Coupe Special Edition (stripes came on it from the factory)
2002 Corvette Z06 (sold in November)

The Cavalier is supercharged, and has embarrassed more than one G35 driver. They seem to be the only pricks who want to race me, and they get one hell of a surprise
(I don't start races, but if someone starts messing with me, I have no problem showing them my taillights. Also, the prick comment was because most G35 drivers around here think they have race cars)

Well...most G35 drivers usually don't have to worry about Cavaliers...
Nice Vette. ;)

Eaton M62, same S/C unit that is on the Cobalt SS S/C. Putting out about the same power, the difference is, my car is 300+lbs lighter than a Cobalt SS :)

Here's a better shot of the Cav, not too many Special Editions running around on the streets. Instead of the dumb looking duck-tail spoiler, they stuck on spoiler from a 4-door sunfire:

Thanks. I had to sell the vette after I went back to school. After I get out next year, I plan on getting a 2004 CE Z06:

Holy hell that's quite the engine. I like the C6 wheels on that Vette. My dad has an 06 ZO6 with the vin # of 483. LeMans Blue. ;)

I just peed my pants a little bit. Makes my mum's C350 look wimpy. :(

Sick car though. Do you have a profile on MBWorld or anything?

Beautiful car. Personally, I love the new boxy look that Mercedes is working in to their cars. While I tend to like the E or S classes, there is something about the new C class that attracts me.

Up until recently, my grandparents had a black/black 1989 420SEL. They bought this car (tank) new and they had been the original owners up until they gave it away recently. They had kept it in show room condition up and it was a dream to drive.

I love the C class as well. I baby her car for her, in fact, it still smells new and it's over a year old. I like the GLKs too.

Pretty neat story. I can't imagine owning a car for 20 years...incredible.

The stock ecotec engine in the Cavalier, I've heard, can handle ~250hp or so. Then, if you replace the rods and pistons, over 400hp. The stock ecotec block itself has been used in racing applications with over 1000hp, reliably.
Then you can buy an ecotec racing block....

LeMans Blue, same color as the 04 model Z06 I mentioned. Electron Blue, what I had on my 02, was a 2002-2003 only color.
The stock wheels on the 2004 CE Z06 were chrome, which I don't like. I'd take them off (store them in case I sell the car) and get some 2001-2003 grey wheels like mine had, or competition gray C6 Z06 wheels also with C6Z brakes. That, of course, would go along with the rear-mounted TT kit I want to get for it too. Oh, the future, can't wait :D

Here's my first car. Picked it up a few months ago.

Absolutely love the 50/50 weight distribution and RWD...makes the car feel so balanced (and has got me out of trouble a few times).
