This is my vehicle for the next 12 months. I live Chicago, so this should work well for city driving. Most people absolutely hate the way it looks, but I find it to be quirky and fun. It's extremely versatile and the short wheelbase makes it surprisingly nimble.

^^ The speedo only goes up to 140 on the Lighting? That's a shame. I've hit that in both my '96 eclipse and my '08 Altima (both of which have a speedo max of 170mph and 160mph respectively).

Yep, stock trucks top out at about 145 due to air friction... my lowered/modified hits about 170 on the track. Have to use the digital speedo or GPS to keep track of it. Attached a dyno of my last tuning session (before and after)...Now if I could only get this road closed to public traffic:

Nice. I've always wanted a Lightning. My dad's friend has one and it has over 500hp to the wheels. Only wish SVT had put a blower in my poor little Focus

My speedo reads 160 but too bad it only tops out at 150mph :D.

Not a Ford guy, but those are nice trucks. I saw a video about the new SVT F-150 the other day used for off roading. Not sure where I saw it, but that was an awesome truck. I'm a Dodge guy. Got a silver Ram quad cab. Love it!!

Because it's cool and some of us would like to survive an accident.
Yes, SUVs are much safer than cars!

And I'll give you a personal, story. My friend in his Porsche 944 was doing about 45 down a major street when a guy in his full size Montero decided to try to run a stop sign to skimp across the road. My friend, in his little Porsche, hit the guy directly on the side causing it to rollover, there was a little girl in the Montero that went flying out the window and she had to be airlifted to the hospital.

I'm not saying you can't drive what you like, but I always love the "some of us would like to survive an accident" argument. :D

I'm still old skool. :p I Love my 90s cars. :D

I got a funny story for thepawn. I was getting on the hwy with a Harley Davidson F150 next to me. We both started the turn into this 2 lane ramp together. I started speeding up and he was keeping up. I was like...hmm...ok lets see what you got. I punched it, and so did he...WOOAHHAA!! Bastard was keeping up! This was like Sunday at 8am so there was NOONE around :D I couldn't shake the booger off and he was staying right on my rear bumper. LOL So we both get on the hwy at like 100mph. Ahh..poor guy. His aerodynamics and weight started kicking in. By the time we hit 140 he was already a few cars behind. We slow down and take the next exit. We both stop, looked at each other and started laughing. I was like "What blower do you have in that thing?" And he was like "I got TWO of them!" More laughing. And he was like "Yours looks 100% stock, but it's not exactly stock, is it." Me: ;) I didn't take a look at his setup, but that was the only P/U that ever kept up with me that far, so I believed him. Always good times :)

But what's the point of that if the cars can't even reach that. :D

My RX-7's Speedo is 180mph. I've hit about 170 in her, but certain things at that speed are more important to look at than some little needle on your dashboard! I looked down, saw the needle was still creeping down around 165-170, looked back up, waited a few seconds, then I started slowing down. So I'd like to think I probably hit somewhere between 170-175. My buddy probably hit 190 in his RX-7, and all he has was about 350rwhp. His needle reached 180, and it was still moving. After that he didn't bother to look back down. Then, a few seconds later, the exit he needed to take came up. Gotta love small light weight boosted cars. :D

Oh, the cars CAN reach that once the limiter is removed. Both of mine were still pulling hard when the limiter was holding it back.

Not all cars have a limiter, though. My RX-7 didn't. It was just a matter of having the HP to get up there. Actually, all new cars now have one I think.

Right, my 96 Eclipse GS-T was governed at 138 and it was still pulling when it hit, and my 08 Altima was governed at 140 and it too was still pulling.

Nice, yeah, my buddies RX-7 demolishes me, but he's got a HKS single turbo conversion with a street ported engine plus tons of other stuff. Last dyno he was 487rwhp. He's had it up over 180 on the track. This is just after his body kit install but before the new rims came...

Ah yeah, that's the "SVT Raptor" a consumer-friendly version of their baja truck. I'm a great car guy - whatever the brand, lol. I had a Dodge before this. :) At the time I bought the Lightning I did it because it was the most "unique" sports "car/truck" that was available at the time...Dodge only had the R/T's, no SRT stuff yet in 2000. It was my birthday present to myself after recovering from a car accident (I was hit by a drunk driver, totaled my dodge).
