To everyone in this thread who owns a BMW, an audi, or a nissan 370z... how old are you guys? How can you afford these cars while being a student?

I am only 18 though... I plan on getting a car next year hopefully.

We've had the Rabbit since it was new. I was 7 when we bought it. It has 316K miles on it. It is now a toy. :) The Golf is my daily, and currently has 177K miles on it. I love them both

I got some pretty bad news when I took my car to the Mercedes-Benz dealer for its service. It needs a new clutch. Yeah, I was shocked too - this is an automatic car which needs a clutch at 32,000 miles

Even worse, it's going to be £600! I don't get it. I don't have any control of the clutch as there is no clutch pedal, yet the component has failed for some reason. I might try to argue my point with them, but I'm already two years beyond the end of the warranty (I bought the car used) so I don't hold out much hope of getting them to cut the price.

I guess I'll just have to pay.

Since when does an automatic has a clutch? I would argue that point and wonder if there screwing. As much as I hate you extremist toward drivers and there cars. I do like your car, if I could afford two cars. I would have that as an everyday car, but that's not possible for allot of people. Because they don't sell it here, or could afford the cost of two cars.

It's a semi automatic sequential transmission and it definitely has a clutch. I just really expected it to last a lot longer!

Hmm, yea... If that's the case, I would have went manual. Give me the fun of the real clutch...

Well I would have done if there was a manual option on this model. Unfortunately Smart only put manual transmissions in the Forfour model.

I think we only have one Smart Car here in the state. When I drive my stepdad's Dodge truck, I truly realize how small they are. In my Acura TL (That, I am trading for a truck), there not so bad. But the Smart Car around here has a Suzuki Motorcycle engine in it, fast little car.

I remember when i was right out of high school i had a huge car payment and insurance. I just HAD to have the S14 240SX (i graduated in 97')

Now that i decided to go to school and get a degree, i dont think i would buy a new car until i buy a house. Just a bad investment...maybe lease, however:)

Here is another one of my car.

<snip>

It's getting a service tomorrow, and I'm not expecting it to be cheap. The one downside of this car is that it is pretty specialised - parts are hidden away in places most mechanics never look, meaning that I want to take it somewhere that they regularly see these cars to get work done.

That place is a Mercedes-Benz dealer, hence the high price :(

I like the roadster! How's it handle? We don't have any here in America.

It handles great. I've not driven the fortwo, but I hear it pales in comparison to the roadster. I recall Top Gear describing the handling of the old fortwo as being "one of the worst we've ever driven". The US version of the fortwo has a bigger engine (1L vs 698cc), but because the roadster is turbocharged it gets to 60 quicker.

I don't really have much experience of cars which handle well - but I do know that this car is markedly better than the cars I was driving before (Fiat Punto, Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa).

for some reason there is always something wrong on this car.. and im tired of bringing it into the shop every month...

But thats how you know its a Land Rover...

My mom's has been pretty good. It has like 10,000 miles on it and all its needed is a new door lock actuator and all the 02 sensors replaced because it was getting 14mpg solid city and highway with no faults.
