For those of you that are interested in detailing your cars, I have found a very useful website with everything you need to know about it.

Detailed Image

Website lists every step you could think of doing to your car, how to do (with different methods; using a buffer or by hand), how often to do it, what each step does, what to follow it up with, etc. I think anyone should chech it out and read up on it. They also have a VERY useful forum where you can ask professional detailers questions about products and such.
They also have a very good selection of products to use, with reviews and specials.

I just recently detailed my car following the guide and using products I purchased from that site. I still need to wax my car, and then I will take some pictures and post them up here, hoping to get that done this weekend. The steps I took were the following:

1. Wash (stripping all protection from the paint)
2. Clay Bar
3. Wash (remove any excess contamination and lube)
4. Glaze
5. Sealant
6. Wax (still need to do this part as I ran out of time)

2high2aim, thanks so much for your (very detailed!) reply. It's just the kind of guide I was looking for. I've never bothered much with 'detailing' my car, just the occasional wash, and a valet once a year  I hope I can get my hands on some comparable products to the ones you mentioned, I have a feeling the market is maybe not so large in England as it is in the US. Anyway, I thought I'd try giving it a go myself. Hopefully I'll get time at the weekend. I'll post some pictures if I get it done this weekend. The below is the only picture I have that I can attach for now of the "before".

And thanks again for the guide.

Glad I helped...nice car btw and also its a lot more rewarding working on a black car because you can tell the difference like day and night. (You might be shocked at how many swirls it has, to check if you look at the sun reflection on your car and see circles (spiderwebs like) than you have swirls) after a full detail you will make the car shine like the beauty it is.

Wow, that was quite a post. I will have to try that next week when I give my car its first good cleaning and waxing.

Waxing does give your car a shine but its more for protection from the elements than anything else, polishing is the real part in making your car look like a show car. GL and have fun...make sure to work in a nice shady cool place (bc heat and sunlight will lead to quicker water spots) so you can dry your car properly.

Good info but your steps are slightly wrong...follow my process and you will get better results.

After clay baring you remove all the bonded contaminates (feel your car gently and feel it...it will feel smooth as glass) NO NEED TO WASH AGAIN

4. Glaze...is the name/marketing its the same as POLISH just renamed

5. Sealant and Wax are the same thing only difference is
Sealant is usually made with synthetic and natural blend
Wax usually is natural

They both do the same and can be marketed either way to consumers. Some have more benefits but the purpose of both is the protect your car from the elements and give it a slight shine.

Hope I clear this up and I am open to debate I know that I answered ALL these questions truthfully. I am not trying to astray any1 from detailing just informing people from marketing. But I am sure what ever products you buy you will see a benefit from traditional wash n dry. But for superior results do follow my steps and if confused about my guide just post a message or PM.

Thanks guys! I greatly appreciate the comments. Means a lot.
Depending on where you live you can get a Prelude fairly cheap. I've seen some for as little as 4000 USD and in great shape too. Many of the former Prelude owners now drive S2000 or BMW. Others drive a wagon or a mini van due to getting their wives pregnant :D haha.

New to me... my girlfriend and I had to buy two cars last week... The Prelude pics were posted while I was posting this. I have a Prelude too, jacked up motor, but I'll post a pic of it shortly. I really love the Prelude. Hah, different cars, yet both are cool. The Camaro is going to end up a wicked street rod, and the Prelude will again be my daily driver :)

Here's my beasts... First and my favourite is the 1996 Land Rover Discovery diesel. It's my daily-driver, 4x4 tourer and off-road toy. Big, tough, comfy and axe-proof. :D

And here's my 2 babies together. The Jeep's a 2006 Wrangler Golden Eagle...it's fun, but not very practical and hardly gets driven.

I need to make a rig/boom thingy and get some rolling shots. My photoshop skills are not up to today's high end par.

I'm a big fan of your 128i. I've been building them on BMWs site nonstop for the last three days.

Alpine White, of course. :)

Thanks! AW is only the best, I was building them for weeks before I ordered.

phiberglass... Very nice photo! Are you using a rig/boom thingy?

Thanks a lot, this was taken as I was hanging out the back of an Z3 M Coupe. I'll probably build up a rig sometime this summer.

Nice! I'm building mine this up coming weekend
I have a few rolling shots that I have been working on but I'm not happy with them. Hence the DIY rig/boom thingy.
