Here's my E93 in Space Grey. I think I may go for your color, Montego Blue, next time around :) That color just really pops on the E92/3 models.

This is my 2008 Toyota Tundra. Its 4X4 and has a 4.7 V8.

Now, her lease is up in August and I am really torn on what I want to replace her with.
I was thinking about going with a Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi, but like my current ride, it loves gas. I go through about $110/week in gas.

I am now thinking about getting a car as opposed to a truck. I still live at home but I am getting married and will be getting my own place in May of 2012. So I would love to have a smaller car/gas payment in order to save for a house or apartment.

I was looking at the Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger, but they will suck here in NY during the winter so they are out of the question.

I am also 6'5" and 285lbs so I fit nicely in a truck. It is annoying for me to get into and out of and fit in a car. I will have to go test drive and see if I fit comfortably in any car I may want to get.

The most wallet friendly option would be a VW Jetta TDi Diesel. They would be like less than $250/month and they get 30/42mpg which is amazing considering I get 12/16 now if I am lucky. Then I was looking at an Audi A4 Quattro and Infiniti G25 or 37. They would probably have the same monthly payment as the truck I have now but the they would be much better on gas.

Decisions, decisions. Any suggestions?

My suggestion is to either A) pay off the truck or B) sell truck and buy a vehicle outright in cash to drop your monthly payments.

I am not married yet, but I do know that financial stress will only burden a marriage more. If you also want to save for a house, then you NEED to reduce your monthly payments as much as possible if your a typical avg income family. Just IMO, but don't get caught up in new toys when you don't have the cash to outright buy them. Who knows what may happen....

I myself refuse to buy something that I can not fully pay for in 1 month. (A house purchase though will break that rule for me ;)

To add about "who knows what may happen": I was supposed to go autoxing today with the Porsche club, but it was rained out. The sad part is a guy I used to race RC cars with about 3 years ago was going to join in his newly acquired WRX STI. Had a heart attack while driving, hit a palm tree and passed away just this week. My point is...really, who knows what may happen in life....

How about a Charger? You might (or might not) like the 2011 and it's available in AWD form, although AWD only comes on the V8 now and depending on the kinda driving you do you'll get about 20mpg average with that V8. Maybe.

(I say that, because I have a 2006 300c and it gets about 18mpg average). You're probably not going to save a lot of gas unless you buy a substantially smaller car. The V6 versions of pretty much every car I can think of likewise is RWD, except for maybe the Taurus.

Even at 6'5, I bet you could fit in a smaller car than you think. Sure, probably not a Mazda 3 or a Civic (heck, I'm 6'1 and I am NOT a fan of cars that small), but trucks aren't really that much bigger - the passenger cabin in your truck probably isn't any longer than the passenger cabin in a Civic. The roof is higher, so I guess if you've got short legs it'd be a big deal, but the floor is also higher off the ground so it's not like you get oodles more leg room.

Good luck dude!

How often have you actually used your truck as a truck? Enough to warrant the excess you pay on fuel?

If you like having the ability to haul stuff around, what about a wagon?

I rarely use it to haul stuff but when I need to, it's nice to have. I have a truck mainly so I fan fit in it. My fiancé had a Hyndai Elantra, my father has a Ford Edge, and my mother has a Scion xB. I feel very and uncomfortable and a little claustrophobic when ever I also have to drive those. I hate having to step down and duck low in order to get onto a car. I prefer having to step up as I do in order to get into my truck.

That's something you definitely get used to. The low driving position of my MR2 made me feel uneasy at first, but switching into other cars felt weird after a while.

Say you got the Jetta TDI, you'd love the economy (many people get more than the advertised mileage), and you'd probably start to love the improved handling of the smaller car.

An Audi Quattro wagon would be a good choice if you didn't want to give up being able to haul things around, and the AWD would come in handy in the winter. Fuel economy would also still be better than your truck.

Fuel isn't going to get any cheaper any time soon

Agreed.

Though I recommend the Cadillac CTS Sport Wagon. :D

Why not an SUV? If you wanna stay with a Toyota, a 4Runner V6 would probably help a little with the gas. Or try a Honda Pilot? New Dodge Durango?

OUCH!! What happened? It looks like the car held up well in the right spots. Glad you're OK.

I was driving in an area I never drove before, in the country somewhere. I stopped at a stop sign, and pulled forward (assuming it was a 4 way stop) and to my surprise a semi going 65 mph hit me. It was an accident in its purest form. I wasn't being careless, or texting or anything. Just didn't think. Thanks! I am glad I am ok to. My insurance gave me more than I payed for my Jetta, I am not hurt, no one else got hurt, so it worked out alright.

My other "roadster" is the original Miata Monster - it was the first of about 90 put together by Monster Motorsports (Ford 5.0 V8) in the early 90's. Old Blue is the one that was featured in an Autoweek article and made the cover .......

Here's an old video clip - Old Blue makes a cameo; guess which one it is? :)

Very cool. Hey, I'll trade you a ride in yours for a ride in my stock '95 Miata R-package with 42K original miles on the clock. ;) While I never really longed for much more power due to lighter car, lighter wheels (RPF1s) and allegedly hand-picked engine, a V8 experience should be so different.

This one's mine:

I agree with the Charger statement. I'm a larger guy, too (6'2, 230lbs, Size 15 shoes), and am looking at getting a new Camaro SS when I pay off my 2006 Grand Prix this August. But, like you, I think I might need something bigger, and so I test drove a 2011 Charger R/T Max with every option checked the other day. *VERY* nice. Interior is leaps and bounds better than any Dodge before it, power delivery was smooth and quick, it handled like a champ, and there was loads of room. Plus, the car just looks straight-up mean. I highly recommend you give it a look.

assorted cars

the smartcar pic was taken the day i brought it home, the dealer said it was the 3rd smartcar delivered in california. the 2008 gt2 and the 2006 f430 each alternately received 'spirited runs' every morning at 4:30 on the way to the gym. both saw the other side of 200mph. i guess im kinda breaking the rules with the 430 though, as its no longer a picture of 'my' car. i sold it a few weeks ago, as the new-body 458 kinda makes the old-body so, umm, old. not pictured: a new beetle conv, a 'really, really, really' old beetle, and an 2010 x5 BMW 4.8 that i hate with all my heart and soul.

Wow. I just checked out the Charger on Dodge.com and it looks very nice! The price looks right, too. I'm going to check it out at the dealer tomorrow. Thanks for the info.
