Thanks for all the congratulations guys,

I'm 17 and and got it for 16,900 out the door. Most of it is my money earned from my little iPhone/Mac repair business that I run in my town on Long Island in NY. I had it checked out before I bought it and was advised that it is in great mechanical condition, the car runs great!

----------

@techno96 congrats on the first car!!!

I hate to be "that guy" but you guys realize that a 2007 3 series could be had for relatively cheap. For example, the marketprice around DC is about 17k. That actually makes it cheaper than buying a new Civic. If the carfax is clean, i don't know alot of people who would take a honda over a bmw, even if the BMW is older.

Very True! Most people don't realize that a 2013 civic or corolla could cost about the same or a little bit more even!

----------

Congrats on first car!

Thank you!

True but $17k is still a good amount of coin for a first car.

Personally I wouldn't touch an 80k mile BMW with a ten foot pole. I did that twice in my life and never, ever again. At this point in my life I'm wise enough that I'd take the Honda given your theoretical above. I definitely would not pay $17k for any six year old car with 80k on the clock. ;)

I bought a 2011 BMW 328i. Happy with the car. But I don't know if I will keep it past the warranty period because it can be expensive. But I know other BMW owners with over 100K miles on it and it's been relatively problem free. They also have an Indy shop that will do great work for a lot cheaper than the dealership. Factor in costs and it's less than Mercedes and Audi after the warranty period from what I've told. Plus you're driving the "ultimate driving machine." I will say gas mileage is not that great for the e90.

Very true, I'm noticing that in my car but I just reset the throttle adaptation so hopefully that will help.

I've driven the sedan, coupe and wagon V's as I have friends with each. While a hell of a ride, I wouldn't say it beats the hell out of our corvette.... Very different cars. The corvette is a lot more raw, the V's are more refined and comfortable. The torque they have is unreal. We don't have a need for the extra seats right now or I would have been shopping V's but for now I'm enjoyin owning a 2 seat raw sports car and the targa top is awesome.

Here's my buddies wagon the day he brought it home... I love the wagon but she rolls her eyes when I say it's sweet. Power tailgate ftw

Image

Here's the coupe and wagon... We went down together for a friends funeral in Washington DC (5 hour drive)... The fiancée and I rode down with my buddy in the wagon, I drove home.

That thing is sweet. My buddy has the CTS coupe, it's quick. I'd love to see how quick the CTS-V is.

Mine has 226K miles. You gotta know how to DIY if you want to save money. And 80k miles is not a lot for a BMW. That $17k price though, is quite high.

Wish I had a $17k car as my first. I had a $1000 BMW E30.

80k is still 80k. It might not be much for the engine, but everything else around it falls apart; fuel pumps, injectors, alternators, starters, rubber hoses and gaskets, radiators, sensors, etc. Even DIYing, you're still spending a good amount of money and time fixing an unreliable car that is always in need of something if it is your daily driver. Even independent shops aren't much cheaper than dealers, ten years ago when I had my E36 I usually took it to a German shop with BMW certified techs and they still ran over $80/hr in labor.

Personally I'm done with high mile dailies, that's why the wife and I both went new this time around. At the price I paid for each of our VWs, I could've bought pretty nice Audis/Mercs/3s that were 2-3 years old with around 25k-30k miles, but even that I'd rather stay away from these days. These days I'd like to unload a car at 30-40k miles.

Just been down that road too many times with too many well used cars, even though they were all well maintained, beautiful, and had full service records.

*shrug* I

I don't know what you guys talking about? Older models are the best- you can easy make more than 200k KM or more than 300k Km

Fair enough. I always forget to distinguish between car enthusiasts and those that just use their car as a tool.

Ummm, I'm a car enthusiast through and through and have had an immaculate Camaro for the last 15 years as a summer only toy. I've also been on the HOTROD Power Tour (Long Hauler) and I've entered the car in numerous car shows over the years, including Car Craft Summer Nationals every year. Car ain't stock either. Last daily driver was a Mustang GT that wasn't stock either, and I've had both an E30 and E36 which were hands down the two worst cars I've ever owned.

Just because someone doesn't want to waste time and money fixing a bunch of junk on a daily doesn't make them someone who thinks of their vehicle as an appliance. There's a big difference between being an enthusiast and being excited about repairing crap like fuel pumps on daily drivers.

That was a pretty tacky remark. If you enjoy repairing your daily driver (big difference between repairs and mods), good for you but don't discredit someone else's auto enthusiasm just because they prefer to have something new and reliable for an everyday car while they have a family, career, and life happening and don't have time or money to be wasted on dumping more and more money into a high mileage daily driver like some kid. Believe me kid I've been down that road, then I wisened up and got sick of a bunch of repairs and wasted money just to have some crappy badge on the hood.

I have a hard time considering guys that spend all their time polishing their cars in the garage and hanging out at car shows as true enthusiasts. Sticking all the chrome trinkets they can find on the car... ugh makes me sick.

Is that directed at me? I hope not.

Yeah I was gonna say unless you know how to DIY these cars they would be impossible to keep on the road. I have 156k miles on mine and its a much better car than the day I bought it.

Did you notice an improvement? 16.1 gallon tank and it gets about 290 miles on each tank. Not great at all. I don't drive it hard or anything. That's the only disappointing thing about the car.
