In a coffee shop.
A few years ago? Saab hasn't made any profit since GM bought it in -89. They've sucked every last penny from the company and invested nothing. Saab has been in pseudo-bankruptcy since the mid 90's. Sure the yanks are best in the world at creative accounting but that doesn't change the fact that no company can survive 20 years of mismanagement.

As for the new Saab. Yes, they're back in production. The MY12 9-3 was slightly updated with a redesigned interior, a 9-5 Turbo4 engine and a heap of other modifications.

I took this pic just before my test drive last week. I'll probably buy one later this year.

Ah, yes, thank you for clarifying this. To my embarrassment, I had utterly forgotten GM's ill-fated foray into Swedish motoring when they purchased Saab and made an utter mess of things; a real pity, because the Saabs of the 1980s were terrific cars, and some from the early 1990s still looked wonderful.

I seem to recall that Spyker bought Saab at some stage, and that did not work out well, either. Who - or what - are the current owners, and what form does the current ownership of Saab take?

I don't have a car at the moment, as I am working and living abroad, but Saab is a brand I have always liked a lot, and a 9-3 is the type of car I would like to buy at some stage.

In any case, I wish the company a speedy, soundly based and completely successful resurrection. Good luck when you di get around to buying one later this year, and let us know how it drives and what it looks like when you do take proud possession of it.

I had a 99 Turbo for a while. Loved that thing, but it was a passing affair. I knew that I wasn't keeping it for long anyway. Though I never had as much fun as I did in those three months.
I seem to recall that Spyker bought Saab at some stage, and that did not work out well, either. Who - or what - are the current owners, and what form does the current ownership of Saab take?

Saab went belly up under Spykers ownership. Both GM (who still owned a part) and the Swedish Treasury refused to allow funding from a Russian businessman who they claimed was involved in criminal activity. (That to this day hasn't been proven) With no funding, and incresing debt, Spyker couldn't pull it around. Meanwhile the two lawyers that handled the bankruptcy got over 2.3 Million US dollars.

The current owners are a Swedish-Chinese company called NEVS AB, National Electric Vehicle Sweden. And against common knowledge, they didn't buy Saab. They bought the bankruptcy estate. By that time, Saab as a company didn't exist. They wanted the Stallbacka Manufacturing Plant for their own electric vehicles, nothing else. The deal ended in their favor becuase they got a ******** of parts and (unregisterable)cars in the process. Among others, 1000 Turbo4 Engines, which now power the pre-series MY14 Saab 9-3.

The plan is to build a limited number of petrol 9-3's and then use the chassis for a electric model (That is now being tested in China with a 200 unit test fleet).

The Phoenix platform is being redesigned and rebuilt to avoid GM parts and then it will be released as the new 9-3. Unfortunately the 92% completion dropped to around 60% once you removed all GM parts. I was told Q4 2015 earliest for announcement and Q2/Q3 2016 for launch.

I don't have a car at the moment, as I am working and living abroad, but Saab is a brand I have always liked a lot, and a 9-3 is the type of car I would like to buy at some stage.

I'll write a lengthy review I promise. But from my 30 minute test drive, i have two workds for ya. F--king amazing!

Psst.... I can also reveal that there will be at least one MY14 9-3 in the US this year. More precisely in Burbank, Ca. Shortly thereafter a second one will be delivered to Germany and possibly one to Israel.

Weird...I know that's taken at Gillette (aside from the Stadium in the background, I know Patriots Place far too well). Apparently we reside dangerously close to one another! :p nice car, amigo! Big fan of the dark windows + dark paint + shiny contrasting rims. If I had it my way I'd have a similar set up. My car is somewhere in the last few pages of this thread...

Thanks, I love the car and only have done a few things so far to make it mine. I'm living in Attleboro (Capron Park area) at the present time. Could change soon as I flip homes these days.

Still have the same car as in 2013.

A 2001 MGF Trophy 160. Now fitted with a straight through exhaust, and had an ECU remap to 170 BHP.

(It's the yellow one in the pic)

Usually the stock airbox is better than any so called "CAI"....MFGs usually quite smart in their designs....

Also, I'd say hold off on the "go fast" mods on your Accord and buy a quicker car when given the chance. It's also what my race instructors have been pushing, and now what I push to my students.

Hmm, most people on the Drive Accord forums have reported getting a 7-10 HP bump after installing a Takeda intake on their 9th gen Accords. I guess I'll find out. Its not a very expensive mod if in fact it doesn't give me any gains I can always replace it with stock.

Congrats on the car, but holy crap, small world.

I saw your post here. A few minutes later, I went over to Reddit and was browsing r/ELI5 out of sheer boredom and saw this post. I was like "No way, has to be a coincidence." Then I looked at that OP's post history and found this post. What are the odds.....

I certainly agree with you, but the difference between the faster car I want and installing a few cheap mods on this Accord is probably $10-15K. In a few years I will definitely be looking to get a quicker car with a more powerful engine, etc.

That being said, I've been pretty happy with the Accord so far. For a $25K car it looks good and performs better than I'd expect for its price.

A CAI adding 7-10 WHP? Did they get their Accords tuned and put on a dyno to see the results?

Why would you replace your HID's for LED's when HID's produce more light? LED's are also more expensive. Unless you have a Hybrid or totally electric vehicle, HID's have the advantage.

It's not too surprising, Takeda advertises the intake as providing " Gains up to 9 hp and 9 ft-lbs. of torque". I plan to test it out for myself once I install it this week, I have a friend who works at a local performance shop so we can take a look on dyno. I assume I'll at least get some gains, but whether it's really in that range I don't know.

I am going to install the LED lights from the touring Accord model. It's been done by several people on the Accord forums. It's a rather pricey and probably not so easy mod, but just like you I like the look of LED headlights. I was going to do HIDs myself but decided to go with this.

Probably a placebo effect. You tell them the CAI gives a performance boost and they'll notice it. I bet you'll notice the same after installing your CAI. I also bet that afterwards, if I replaced the CAI in your car with the stock air intake and didn't tell you, you wouldn't notice it unless you popped the hood.

Even if a dyno proves there's a 7 HP boost, chances are, that's not enough for anyone to actually notice.

Why all the hate for the CAI in this thread?

In the end, even if it doesn't give me any noticeable gains, it costs $160 and makes the car sound sexy, thats good enough for me!

No hate here. It's just uncommon for just a CAI to provide that much gain without a new exhaust system and proper tune on a smaller Japanese motor. If you're able to see those gains, that's awesome.
