the smart car
Those are AWESOME! I think they'd be really fun to drive, not to mention EASY to park. I could fit about 4 of 'em in my 1 car driveway. :D

I got to test drive a Smart Car in the USA, back in '99 as part of a market research study.

My impressions of it at the time were:
-Terrible rear visibility
-No power steering? (It seemed to require an excessive amount of turning the steering wheel just to turn a corner)
-Delayed shifts with the auto-stick shift dealio (I would tip the shifter and have to wait 1.5 to 2 seconds for it to shift)

I would be interested in hearing impressions of the current models.

Funnily enough, the people that were hosting the test drive failed to mention that the speedometer in the test cars were in KM/H. As I was going down a residential street I was speeding up to match the speed of a truck that was ahead of me, and glanced at the speedo to see the needle going passed 40! I freaked out for a second until I realized there was no way in hell I was actually going over 40 and finally spotted the KM/H notation on it.:D

Dude, that SUCKS! We all know how much you loved your Disco. You gonna find another one if yours is totalled?

Yea it sucks. Insurance is coving it. Its most likely totaled according to the body shop, and I have to agree with them. If its totaled I would be interested in a Discovery Series II (1999 to 2002) or a Range Rover P38 (likely a 1997-1999 model).

I am not really sure what else I like. I don't think my parents want me owning a sporty little car. I like 4Runners but ergonomically they seem built for a person shorter then 5'11", especially the 4Runner. Pathfinders are nice too as well as Land Cruisers. All the Japanese cars are so expensive compared to European cars though.

We'll see what the insurance company says after its inspection today.

FYI, I'm 6' 3" and fit fine into my 97 4Runner and my Dad's 04.

6'6", and the 4runner is unbearably small for my 240lb frame. The avalon got rear ended and is hemmed up behind the body shop =( and I have been in an 08 limited runner. I got out of it today and into a camry hybrid, and the difference in room was unreal.

the boss wont let me take a seqouia, its our last 07 and they are redesigning it for 08. they dont sell real well around here anyways, too much $$.

erik I am sorry about your accident, remember good things happen to good people, and vise versa. :p

Well I am glad we can agree on the 4Runner thing. I just think that the seat isn't high enough to accommodate a person over 5 feet tall comfortably. Not to say the Rover doesn't have its share of ergonomic issues, but at least I don't feel like my head is hitting the ceiling and like I am sitting in the 3rd row of a midsized SUV designed for children to sit in.

I've got to say, I am not a fan of the 2008 Sequoia. I never really loved the old ones but I think the new ones are worse. Its about time for an update though.

You're just mad I don't like your chrome rims :p.
I suppose the good thing is that insurance is covering my car and can't up my charges because its a deer and falls under the "act of god clause".

It's time for me to start looking for a new car.

Sucks to hear that it's totalled, man. Good luck finding you another Land Rover or whatever you decide to get. 4-Runners are OK, but seem rather bland to me. I dunno, I'm just not a huge fan of the styling. I've never got to ride in one of the newer ones, though, so my mind might change if I got to ride in one. After all, a car's looks aren't the only important thing. Since you like off-roading and such, I definitely think you should stick with an SUV. Just my $.02.

Posted when first purchased.. but here's a shot in her summer shoes..

The II is a nicer looking car IMO. Disco 3 didnt do too well in last Top Gear survery:

Yea, I agree the Discovery II is a much better looking car, especially with 18" wheels. I must say that of all the Discovery 1's out there, I think the LE and LSE (1997-1998) editions were the only good looking ones, but the DII still looks better.

I am 17 years old so I think a Discovery 3 aka LR3 (US changed name because they wanted to make people forget about the Discovery reputation ) is quite a bit out of my price range. My parents are thinking about a DII though to replace our 2003 Discovery II SE-7 which I *might* get but I am not sure.

I am not sure what I want to replace my car with. I love Land Rovers but they are certianly prone to break and they're so expensive to fix. I would really like to switch to a DII or Range Rover instead of a D1 just because they are much more comfortable cars. Discoveries are more relaible (in the sense they have less electronics) and more parts are available. Range Rovers have the cool factor but they all have air suspension, rediculously complicated security systems, and bunches of little problems. Discoveries have ABS sensor issues which throws off the traction control, abs, and down hill decent control. Also they're prone to leaking water through the sunroofs.

I dunno. I would like to have an SUV because we get a lot of snow here and the roads can be treacherous. I also like being up high and having the visibility. Additionally, since my car was an SUV, it basically saved me severe injury (or death I suppose if I was really unlucky) because the hood was high enough that the deer didn't go flying through the windshield.
