The Compass and Patriot should have never existed under the Jeep nameplate. What's next? An Epsilion( FWD) based Hummer H5? Those products just water down the Jeep brand. Chrysler is in its own POS mode. Making very similar mistakes GM did in the past 2-3 decades( give every division the same car, TONS of incentives, etc).

Right now I am really disappointed in Jeep. They are seriously going down the drain fast.

- Wrangler- I don't like the new style as much as the old in that they are very plasticy in the front, but the 4 door version I must say is pretty cool
- Grand Cherokee right now is OK. They drive better than the old ones, but they're interiors are not great and their styling is controversial
- Commander's I don't believe sell very well since I don't see a lot of them. They are VERY poorly designed inside and have absolutely no trunk with the 3rd row deployed
- Compass is hideous and car based and I don't think has the full heart of jeep in it
- The Patriot I think is decent looking, but again I think its not a "real" jeep. Also with a price difference of like $1000, whats the difference between that and the Compass other than styling?
- Liberty..... I never liked it, but cannot believe what Chrysler is doing. They're ruining jeep and are just turning into another fake profit point

Whats next... A jeep branded Dodge Magnum

Has any seen the jeep trailhawk? I think it look sweeet.

I do like the old Liberty look better though. Looks too much like the Commander now.

True, jeep is suffering from "me too" syndrome. One of GM biggest mistakes was spreading itself too thin with multiple brand divisions, product duplication, and its unwieldy dealer network.

But, why should Jeep be without a fuel efficent unibody passenger vehicle?? Are they trying to please the dealer, satisfy customer demand, or meet government fuel economy requiments?

Its survival of the fittest nameplate at GM and DCX. Ford actually has a leg up "only" carrying FLM, but its dealer network is weak and overpopulated.

I think the problem with the liberty is that it IS a nitro only with jeep branding and a 6 slot grill. :p

Chrysler is obviously desperate in selling cars with all of there huge incentives, and the fact that they are currently for sale (the company). One thing is for sure, they definitely not what they used to be.

Ford carries, Ford, Mercury, Lincoln, Volvo, Mazda, Land Rover, and Jaguar. GM carries( in the US), Chevy, GMC, Saab, Hummer, Buick, Cadillac, Saturn, and Pontiac. Chrysler has the leg up with Chrysler, Jeep, and Dodge. Only 3 brands. Unless you want to include its German step-sisters.

We're going to agree to disagree here, because I feel that Mazda, Volvo, Land Rover and Jaguar may be owned wholly or in part by FMC, but are in no way shape or form being managed by the folks down in Dearborn. Step sisters? Lets call them second cousins. Just because Ford manufactures the Mazda 6, Mazda of N.A. still retains seperate management, my best friends wife is a DRM for them. Call her a ford employee and see what happens.

Using your logic, Mercedes, Smart and and Maybach are Chryslers problem. I'm talking big three here, in the purest of definition. :)

I think I've figured out a reason why American cars don't sell. Honestly I think most American cars are ugly. They try to go off and look unique while the Europeans and Japanese come out with the real stylish cars. Seriously they should take the Hyundai approach and copy all styles of luxury cars that cost 4x as much.

Well Jeep is dropping the Commander due to slow sales, the new Liberty looks alot more like the Cherokee than anything else they sell right now, the Grand Cherokee seems to be doing fine (but gas prices will most likely cripple that), the Compass is horrible, and the Patriot isn't so bad (but not a real Jeep), and the Wrangler (while I have never liked them) look better than before.

Pretty much the only thing I like about Jeep right now is that they are offering diesel engines in their SUV's.

Here's my baby...
pic
Ferrari Enzo; I'd post my other cars too but I'd like to remain as modest as possible. I realize she needs a carwash, but I just haven't had time. Handling is great, but gas mileage could be better. Thinking of trading her in for a Smart Car in the spring...

EDIT: Incase you're wondering, my garage has a hardwood floor and I had a giant apple keyboard & mouse constructed for decoration. Really.

I did a YouTube search and according to your profile you are 1" tall and 20 years old. There is no way a 20 year old 1" high could afford a Hotwheels. In any case it has Toy Town plates and according to your profile you live in Lilliput. I'm not creepy or anything but I'm watching you now, nice dolls house, you should close the blinds when you invite polly pocket around:)

Ok so I have a really weird story...

I drove up to Massachusetts to buy gas (10 min away and $.18 cheaper). I went inside to prepay for gas and I went back outside to see a 03/04 style discovery SE pulling a boat. It drove up to a gas tank and the driver got out and started filling up the boat with gas. I starting pumping my car with gas. His wife got out and noticed I also had a discovery. She started talking to me about the ridiculous price of gas. She talked about her discovery- how it was an 03 and she loved it and how she also had a 1998 Range Rover. She then walked around my car checking it out and walked back to me and continued to talk about Rovers and how she wanted a Defender blah blah blah. While talking about this she started touching me. It was soo odd. I understand people sometimes touch you when you talk, but usually lightly and you actually know the person. This lady though was like squeezing my biceps and was feeling my love handles area I guess. It was bizzare. After continuing to blabber she randomly stuck out her hand and introduced herself by her first and last name. She said her husband owns a car dealership chain (I'm not gonna say the name). She didn't seem drunk, or smell it, but I thought it strange she was feeling me up in front of her husband.

They are actually overall better than the old ones... Less plastic and a much much better interior.

It's on par, if not better than Ford's offerings, and will run circles around any Trail Blazer.

You might not see many because you live in the middle of bum****. :p

Yeah. I guess I agree. But Crossovers do sell.

Nothing. They are targeted at two different demographics.

you answered your own question

Obviously pretty much every car company does this- but these look WAYYYYYYY to similar.

Jeep used to be good because they had their own vehicles and not just rebranded vehicles from other chrysler groups.

If you have ever been in a commander, you will notice the numerous major design flaws such as...
- No 5" of trunk depth with 3rd row up
- Rear a/c controls in 3rd row
- You can't see out the back of it
- No 2nd row leg room what so ever, and none in the 3rd row

Kudos to you for keeping this thread alive.

I dont mind our commander. I've got say, I havent noticed ANY of these issues! Yeah its a bit akward, but sheesh. Most of your issues seem to come from riding in the back, or employing use of the 3rd seat, which fortunately I've never had to do. Handling? It's like driving a turd in a punchbowl. But show me a 3rd row midsize SUV that isn't!

:D

So I'm guessing you'd have problems with this too:

Sure, but countless other vechicles have similar issues:

Try backing up in one of those.

I've never really been a fan of Jeep. They just aren't my type of vehicles. I prefer sporty cars or crossover SUV's. However, the good news for Chrysler is that sales are up while most other American automakers sales are down (Mainly Ford). However, I do have a praise for a vehicle. The GMC Acadia is one of the best thing's to come out of a GM factory in a long time. Great styling, engine, high quality interior, and a price that won't break the bank. GM is getting better by the day; haven't seen to many Ford Edge's on the road but I don't like them near as well as the Acadia.

I've seen a few edges around. They look like a Murano crossed with an early 90's boxy hatchback. I don't really like them that much, I think the grill is really what hurts it styling.

I saw a new 2008 Escape while driving today. I must say it caught my eye. I think it is significantly better looking than the last version.
