LoL at the aesthetic complaints. I'm sure you'll lose Starbuck's style points at the next meet.

There's nothing wrong with commenting or complaining about how it looks. Sure someone will buy it and use it but part of the price of a Mac is the design and looks. I don't like the black chiclet keyboard, prefer the pre-unibody keyboard, but it didn't stop me from buying a uMBP. If you're basing your decision on looks, then yeah  but I don't think many people do.

Although I hate to do this, I kinda do agree to that Laptop Hunters commercial where the person goes "Macs are really about aesthetics over functionality".

I mean, the glass look is there just for looks - and not practical. I've never seen a laptop screen have so many smudges in my life than on a uMBP. Why in hell would they put glass on a portable??? A portable is going to be thrown around, and is PORTABLE - you can easily crack glass. Speaking of which, the glass trackpad is not practical as well (yeah I know it's supposed to 'feel' better, but feel that to the people with cracked glass trackpads).

However, the keyboard is a lot nice to type on (my experience) and easier to clean. I just wish they would make a all silver uMBP with keyboards like the Apple slim-keyboard (color wise, with lights).

The glass for the screen is very practical. I don't know if you have small children but they have a tendency to touch things and all you need is for your small child to press hard on your LCD and it gets damaged. The glass faceplace is perfect for protection, even from adult family members.

The glass trackpad doesn't receive wear like the standard trackpads henceforth there will be little to no shiny trackpad over time. My Macbook Air (which does not have a glass trackpad) got a shiny trackpad after just 8 months of owning it. Everything has a purpose.

It's not sugar glass used in movie special effects... the glass mounted screen is stronger.

hey, you can bash the screen, but uMBP trackpad is the only trackpad that is not annoying to use..:)

No, Mac's are about aesthetics AND functionality. Who says a computer needs to look like a beige lump of plastic? You don't need to compromise, that's the whole point.

I don't think many people choose looks over functionality, but rather have both as a requirement.

Are you saying that because you throw your laptop around everybody does? I have mine steadily placed on a table at all times. When I carry it I use my incase neoprene sleeve and/or carrying bag. I also use a see-through hardshell and clearguard keyboard protector. Flame me if you want, but my laptop looks brand new and I can sell it for a very good price if the time comes I want to replace it.

Oh, and I love the glossy screen. I never touch it (why would you) so it doesn't have smudges, and if I were worried that others would I'd put a protector on that too. You get high quality films to put on it.

Hinge on new AG

I really hope the new 15" have a stronger hinge like on the 13" and 17". This is the only thing stopping me from getting one. The fact that I cant use the laptop at a slight angle is ridiculous. The mac specialist at the store said they would most likely have a stronger hinge. Anyone hear anything about this?

I saw the 17" matte display in stores the other day and I think it looks gorgeous. Slim silver bezel with a black gasket looks great.

I don't think they will change the hinge, now with the 'new' matte display weighing a lot less than its glass counterpart, the hinges won't feel as loose anymore because they don't have to carry the weight of the glass.

Just my thoughts and opinion about this matter.

Just get some anti glare film, see my signature for a review and link, I am not affiliated with them

Why the hell is it suddenly "FUGLY" because of the silver bezel? Remember the previous generation MBPs? And the PowerBooks? Were they fugly too, or did you just decide you wanted to complain?

I think the silver bezel looks a lot better than the black.. call it ugly if you must, that just makes me like it even more.

What the hell? When the MacBook Pro was redesigned a couple of months ago, everyone was complaining about how disgusting the black bezel and keys were, and now you're complaining about how hideous that silver bezel is.
You guys are ridiculous.

The OP's original question still remains, I think. Has anyone seen a matte 15" in the wild yet?

In stores

I just called the Palo Alto store and they have the high end 15" AG in stock but not on display. Someone please go buy it and let me know if the hinge is tighter!! THANKS!

I THINK that everyone's problem with the new anti-glare displays stems from the black border around the silver bezel in addition to the black hinge. If the hinge and the border were gray, like with the MBA, the aesthetics would be much nicer. Of course it isn't a huge deal, but it seems strange for an Apple computer.

Did you just decide you wanted to be awkward? Are you for a second implying the new design looks anything like the matte MBP pre-unibody? The matte unibody was clearly just an afterthought.

Think:

if people found the Black bezel horrible ,

what are they going to think to Black bordered-Silver bezel with black keys? It's the most disjointed look I've ever seen. I can't believe it has an Apple logo on it. I dislike the new ACD and iMac for the same reasons, it's not "ridiculous" at all. They look bad to me. And thousands of others. 'Kay?

I'd pick a glossy uMBP over that AG one for how ugly the silver bezel and the black keys are anytime.

Something like that doesn't even deserve an Apple logo on it. But then again, for each his own.

I'd pick neither. Went for a Mac Pro, with matte displays of my choosing instead. Mobile image accuracy isn't too important to me, thankfully, and I'm sure those who need it will take matte, but... it's annoying that the unibody was clearly designed to be a glossy machine. As someone above said, when you're dropping $x,000 on a machine, form as well as function may be a factor in your purchase.
