I just noticed this that the ProCam (ProCam 8) app will now allow you to shoot 48 megapixels in JPEG instead of 12 and it looks pretty impressive so far

48mp jpeg and huge crop from ProCam 8. I believe Moment, Halide, and others will follow suit as well soon.

SAMPLES (jpeg files) FROM PROCAM8 directly out of camera!!! Not bad at all…

Using the ProCam 8 app in jpeg mode to get 48mp images is working very well. I came across the app on Instagram and I did have it at one point, but quit using it so I deleted it from my iPhone, but now they support the 48 megapixel sensor in JPEG mode without using ProRAW is a very good find. Check out these heavily zoomed in screenshots one is from a 12 megapixel sample and the other is 48 megapixels.

Very clean on the high resolution jpeg.

Could anyone upload a 48mp ProRaw file taken in daylight or know where I could find some samples? I'd love to edit them in Lightroom but couldn't find any, except for 1 picture from Austin Mann's review.

Do you have a recommended upload method to retain the file quality? I took one earlier today.

Yes.. Austin Mann has one available on his iPhone 14 camera review about half way down… it’s a photo of a yack

HI virginblue4,
taking photos in 48 MP doesn't raise quality at all, it just gave you better options when it comes to prepare the photo for a big print. Also shooting in RAW will enable more options in editing your photo. In other words .. it depends...
In general, if you want to print out your photo consider to use the raw 48 MP format. Remember that a 48 MP photo can take up to 120 MB space in your iCloud account.
As far as I can see the AI also applies to 48MP RAW shots. And why not preprocess the pictures .. you can enhance them easily .. why not using it.

To be clear; it DOES improve quality by a significant amount. It captures far more detail than a 12mp JPEG.

However if you are just viewing on a phone without any cropping or if you’re not viewing at 100% resolution, the increased quality isn’t viewable because what you’re looking at a huge image shrunk down for a tiny screen.

Much like viewing 4k on a small TV is indistinguishable from 1080p

Impressive. What’s the file size vs apple jpeg?

Pixel 6 Pro vs iPhone 14 Pro camera comparison. I still think the Pixel takes better pictures. Google is unmatched when it comes to computational photography and AI in general. Apple can't compete in that arena.
