Caught my cat posing in dramatic light. iPhone 14 Pro, portrait mode, auto adjustments in iPhoto. I shoot with EV at -.7 for portraits because they seem to turn out better that way for whatever reason.

Sure thing I can help. The tracking device does not align itself, you will have to do that, but it’s not hard if you know a little bit about where the Northstar is and basic knowledge of astronomy. I purchased the pro kit for that tracking device which comes with the T rail and the bar with the counter weights on it but you don’t really need that for the iPhone, you will need that if you choose to put a regular camera and big lens on it but it only holds a maximum weight of 11 pounds they say. Just the basic star adventure with the wedge and camera mount is really all you need. I purchased an aluminum adjustable cell phone holder and screwed it on top of the tracking mount for the photos. I did use the night mode on the default camera which only gives me 30 seconds of exposure time. the only reason that I used the tracking device is to get rid of the small trailing of stars caused by the earths rotation. without the tracking device Your stars will look slightly elongated. when I get home, I’ll have to get you a photo of my set up, I don’t have one on this phone right now. This is the cellphone mount that I purchased. it allows me to swivel the iPhone in all different directions while it’s on that tracking mount.

This is the app that I use to align the skywatcher star adventure, he just have to choose the proper reticle that’s in the app to work with the tracking device. I can get set up usually in 10 minutes or less.

This is the tracking set up that I have. You’ll have to provide a sturdy tripod, though.

BIG thanks for elaborating on this! Although I'm afraid of entering yet another hobby ;-) Fantastic photo. And great to compare the raw vs the compressed version!

The true test of any camera is in low light. The low light performance of the iPhone 14 Pro camera is not great. Sure, it's great when taking pictures in brightly lit situations but any $300 Android phone on the market is now able to take just as good pictures as the iPhone 14 Pro where there's a lot of light.

Depends on the settings used... A larger sensor ultimately means it can capture more light, and will in turn produce a cleaner image with less noise and less "mush". You'll also need to be using all 48MP rather than the 12MP binned files. There's also now less need to use night mode, as the updated flash will provide a more natural look so use the main 48mp sensor and flash if light isn't good enough.
