Holy cow, just came to say that Halide set to save 48 MP HEIF is money. The photos basically look exactly like 12 MP photos from the stock Camera app, except with a lot more detail and a lot less noise, oversharpening, and compression artifacts. To put it another way, they look just like ProRAW 48 MP shots from the stock Camera app, but shots are a lot quicker and you don't need to use a shortcut to convert them to HEIF afterwards. Apple straight up screwed up by not offering a 48 MP non-ProRAW shooting mode within the stock Camera app.

Some flea market pics from today, most of them 48 Mpixel (only some 4-5 12 HEIC originals), all 48Mpixel DNGs converted using Preview: https://www.flickr.com/photos/33448355@N07/albums/72177720302291353/

The average JPGs, after exporting, are around 5,5Mbytes. Do use the Download icon -> "Original (6048 x 8064)" to get the original files for pixel peeping - flickr, even with Pro accounts (like mine), only renders around 6 Mpixel worth of data when fully zoomed in, even on larger, hi-res displays if you "just" use their own interface instead of downloading the original file and zooming in on your own computer.

I have ps express on my phone and it’s easy to pull up a photo and edit so it’s smaller, but I’d like suggestions for what size and quality that would be good to share here. The heif conversions are too big and I sure don’t need to keep huge files anyway.
So what’s a nice size just while playing with what this phone/camera can do, and be ok to print like 4x6
