These are really interesting. Thanks for putting them up. I took a look near the edge of the images and clearly the lenses are struggling because you can see from the enlargement below, the 12MP actually gives better detail/texture than the 48MP at the edge of the frame

Yup, for example, in the 48 Mpixel image, the writing on the back of the white box seems to be a bit less readable. While it's contrasty stuff (unlike with the blue-on-blue CD covers I mentioned in the other thread), the lenses indeed struggled with this part too.

EDIT: a 24mm equiv ((under around 40mm equiv) the wider, the worse corner sharpness) mobile lens serving a BIIIG sensor - that's a bad omen with regards to corner sharpness ;) Nevertheless, the resolution of the lens in the non-extreme areas (corners etc.) is excellent. While I haven't officially compared it to my (two!) Nokia 808's, based on my past experience (pixel-level sharpness) with the Nokia, I'd say the iPhone is better. (And it should be, given that there has been 10,5 years(!) between the two models.)

What I'm also VERY interested in are 'pure' RAW files completely outside of the imaging chain (staking etc). While I'm certainly aware of the problems of such a small sensor (there'll be TONS of noise etc.), in certain conditions, it MAY be better (with proper post processing) than Apple's software pp "baked in" in these ProRAWs.

BTW, here's another controlled (!!!) comparison of mine; this time very low-light video and the iPhone 11 vs. the 14PM. The latter is WAY better.

I’ve got a magnificent piece when I was taking a lot of pictures of my Guinea pig’s 🍒. Would you look at this Timothy tunnel… like professionally done.

And yet another brand new iP14P(M) thread from me, this time on two switches: "Enhanced Stabilisation" and "Lens correction": https://forums.macrumors.com/thread...o-and-test-results-from-the-uwa-lens.2361527/

My findings may be useful for people that want to "squeeze in" as much content in their picture (without stepping back, which may be in cases impossible; e.g., in a room) as possible. That is, making the lenses as wide as possible.

WOW!!!!! Just working on my next article; this time a comparison between the iPhone 11 and the 14PM and just found out the iP11 (as of iOS 14.5 - keeping mine on it b/c of the JB) applies has MUCH lower oversharpening - it's singnificantly better in this regard than the 14PM, at leats in good light!! That is, I'll surely keep my iP11 with me for the occassional (good light - I haven't compared low-light panos yet) pano...

Looked at your article, and while I am not a professional iphone camera user and I also do some DSLR work with my
Canon EOS 7D Mark II with a Canon EF 100-400 mm f4.5-5.6 IS II USM Telephoto for bird and nature shots I would not consider myself professional. I swapped back and forth a bit on your 11 and 14 panorama shots and I have to admit I am not quite sure what I am looking for with the oversharpening given I never looked at that detail in my iphone line over years. For a non professional can you show/describe more the actual difference (the photos other than shade intensity and such ) looked similar to my eyes. I am just not sure what to look for to be honest. But I used my iUP again to upgrade to the 48 megapixel camera and other camera improvements. And really want to figure out how to better use my iPhone in couplet with my Canon. Thanks for any thing you might care to share with a more of a novice in using iphones for fancy photography;-)

Do you also find them too dark when imported? My 48mp files are pitch black and I have to max out shadows and exposure just to get the image clear.
Yes, this is because the iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max cameras are not yet officially supported in Adobe Camera RAW.

You can cheat a bit and manually change the Color Profile to "Apple ProRAW", and select a lens correction from the iPhone 13 Pro Max for now. But needs a fair amount of post right now until Adobe gets around to updating the RAW processing.

Some images from my 14 Pro from around Birmingham city this morning.

All shot in raw, the one with the small crane is a crop, most taken with main camera.
