After having shot some 130 shots (most of them 48 Mpixel RAWs) today and having immediately sending some 30-40 of them: Indeed the 16.1 update has helped a LOT:

1, a LOT(!!!) faster RAW save times - you can take your next shot a lot earlier than with 16.0.x.

...

All in all, if you do shoot a lot and particularly RAWs, do yourself a favor and update!

Definitely agree - 48mp RAW on 16.1 is significantly faster on my 14 PM.

ProRAW images or regular 12mp HEIC?
These were ProRAW images. Before the update it took about 1.5 seconds for the RAW image to complete, now it’s super fast but it loads in the background. I don’t shoot JPEG or HEIC images very often. I prefer raw. I have a 1TB iPhone 14 pro max so I have enough space. However, it is nice to see that these improvements to the camera have been made, even though they weren’t mentioned in the update details.

Cool.

I have 256Gb, used to think it was enough now I regret not getting at least the 512GB version lol

Apologies if this has been answered here or elsewhere, but how physically large are the images in size (cm) at 300dpi? Both the standard 12mg and 48 versions?

I just discovered an awesome shortcut call HEIFer for batch converting JPEG/PNG/TIFF images to HEIF, so naturally I made a modified version to convert ProRAW images to HEIF. Give it a try! You can start a conversion from the Shortcuts app or by selecting photos and opening the share menu from the Photos app. It will ignore any images that aren't ProRAW, so it's ok to select everything if you don't know which photos are ProRAW and which aren't.

HEIFer ProRAW 1.02 Shortcut

edit: I ended up making my own, more streamlined shortcut as well:

Works Great! I use the streamlined one.

As always everyone's pictures are awesome but I particularly appreciate the notes and observations being posted too, especially when people explain what they're using in terms of: camera settings, ProRAW/Raw/HEIC, editing pipeline, tricks to get better RAW images (thanks @Menneisyys2 ) or tricks for astrophotography (thanks @ToddH ).

Knowing what people are doing to produce stellar images is useful for the rest of us unexperienced plebs lol
