A bit of comparison of focal lengths.
Not the easiest conditions for a cellphone camera or best photos, but here they are.
Straight out of the camera app.
28mm, 120mm, 249mm
The wide shot had to be downsized to attach here.

I wanted to go out tomorrow and get some good shots outside. But we’re getting a tropical storm, not the best conditions to go out taking photos lol. Maybe I’ll take a picture of my dinner

Random pics taken in the CBD of Sydney Australia.

Interesting, I would say they've upped the saturation and contrast by just a hair but I'm starting to think this could be a result of the new lens coating rather than anything algorithmic. If we can indeed credit the lens coating that means some previous instances of hazy photos on iPhone are a subtle lens flare issue.

Did you happen to be using a photographic style?

I came from a 14 Pro Max not expecting much of a difference at all. But I was really surprised when I took some test shots. The processing even on the 12 megapixel cameras is significantly improved. Faces have more detail, night mode has less noise and more detail, it’s all quite nice. And the Automatic always taking a portrait shot if you want is really nice especially in 24 megapixels.
These default are much nicer than the original 12 megapixels just a lot of detail and you don’t have to think a lot about it.
I will say the 48 megapixel shots look almost the same as the 14 pro max because of the lack of processing, but anything below that is significantly improved.

They definitely have upped the processing engine. There’s a lot more going on behind the scenes and a lot more detail and the shots with a lot less noise in some cases.

The video also looks a lot nicer too, not amazingly slow, but if you attach a cheap SSD and shoot prores log you’re getting some really nice footage.

Here’s one I took using the 5x while walking, I was expecting something blurry considering I was moving and using 5x at the same time.

Has anyone else seen that shimmery line when you accessing the photo information and know why that happening? I never noticed that with the 13pm

It's telling you there's a subject in your photo. If you hold down on the shimmering subject you can 'grab' it and drag and drop it into an app like notes or messages. You'll need two hands to do it probably.

EDIT: Actually an easier way is to just hold down on the subject until you feel a haptic pulse and then you can 'copy' it or add it as a custom sticker for iMessage

Was that really the 120mm (5x) lens on the PM? Or was it cropped from the main? Because it's not pretty. Like at all.

Is HEIF well supported across windows? I like to backup my photos on my PC and overdrive but have avoided these apple formats due to lack of wider support

That 24MP output is super tempting though if they’re portable enough

That just reminded me. I saw a Reddit post discussing iOS 17 improving the photo processing over iOS 16 and earlier. Less processed-looking.

So it’s good to know how the 15s look in comparison to other models, but how much is it iOS 17 and how much the new models? Gotta baseline the comparisons on iOS 17. just a thought.

Hoping to see some more shots. So far I am extremely less than thrilled with my photos on the 15P compared to my 14P. I’m wondering if I got so used to the overprocessing that Apple was doing previously that I’m finding almost all my photos, even in great lighting, noisy and not very sharp. Especially portrait mode, I feel like nothing I take is sharp at all or clear. Never had this issue with my 14.

Surprised this thread hasn’t blown up, where are all the pics??
I'm surprised as well! I love these threads although I'm not much of a poster (...yet...), I've got a feeling it's the standard 15 output at 24MP, maybe people are struggling due to post size limitations and lack of knowledge in terms of reducing the image size?

Maybe if the moderators made it a sticky thread it will do, otherwise it gets buried amongst other threads and goes on to page 2, etc - it’s hard to find.
It should be stickied, the other one is! I thought it went away. I saw it when it was first posted and looked yesterday but didn’t see it, I thought it was deleted.

Every picture I try to post, the forum tells me the file is too big. I’ve had to save it from Facebook and post that file. How can I fix this? I feel like it’s an easy fix but I’m just stupid.
