Made an attempt with some night photography and other random encounters.

(made this one darker on purpose to add some focus on the lighting)

These certainly aren't my best ones, but I've had my new toy for just a few days now. Hopefully I can get back with some better ones. Especially considering some I've seen in this topic!

I may have to look out for some better spots for astrophotography, cause it's really difficult to get a decent shot. Even with total darkness I get this weird light 'haze' at the bottom. Even when shooting entirely in the sky. Anyone got tips on how to get rid of it? It's made with ProRAW turned on, and I use Lightroom for editing. But not really that experienced with 'professional' photo editing. ? So any suggestions would be more than welcome!

There are lots of things that can effect star shots:

1. light pollution
2. moisture in the atmosphere
3. Pollution, dust, etc.
4. Camera shake
5. Exposure time

Usually the higher the altitude, the dryer the atmosphere, the farther away from cities the better. So mountains are good. One of the best places on the planet is the Atacama desert in Chile where in some places it hasn't rained, ever. That's why a lot of the worlds biggest telescopes are there.

The shots below (Grand Tetons, Yosemite) were taken years ago on a DSLR and were a lot of work. Tripod, 30 second exposures, multiple shots, photo merges, etc. and took a long time Now you can just all that in seconds on your iPhone. I'm sure others have much better shots, but these were my first attempts. Finally decided it was too much work.

Well, camera shaking and exposure times weren't the issues here, as I used a tripod, allowing for 30s exposure (and although I know some of these photos are made with even longer exposure times, 30s should be sufficient based on several iPhone pictures I've seen). But (light) pollution is indeed an important one. Planning on going someplace later today where there is supposedly less of such pollution, hoping to get some better shots.
