I love the aesthetic of iOS and I love how well it performs on the A series chips but I am NOT a fan of the way some defaults simply cannot be set. This thing is a Google Assistant and a few native apps away from perfection.

I'm in the same boat. I love a lot of things on iOS, but some of it literally makes no sense to me and actually makes using the device a chore sometimes. If it wasn't for iMessage and Apple's really good warranty service, I'd be long gone already. I'd take the other downfalls with Android to have some freedom back.

Thanks to noobinator I’ll be joining the Pixel 3XL gang! This is my first attempt to leave the Apple
ecosystem in over a year. Just decided the price of everything Apple is too much. Excited to start over with Google and see what happens.
Love to read your thoughts after you have had the P3 for a few days. I'm sure there are some things it will do better and some that it won't do as well as your iPhone :)

Thanks! I think I’ll get over the lack of iMessage and FaceTime pretty quickly. There’s always Facebook video calls.

The biggest thing will be how I decide to manage my music library. Not sure if Apple Music has gotten better on Android. If it has I’ll probably stick with that, though I might give Spotify a try. YouTube music is trash. Lol.

So I am thinking about switching to the Pixel 3 from my iPhone. I’m curious though, a lot of talk about ram management right after it was released. Is that still an issue? Are there any other glaring issues I should know about?
I never notice anything because I’m not typically multitasking but my husband encountered a somewhat “known issue” discussed by Andrew Martonik on Android Central about how if you stream music through Bluetooth devices and simultaneously try to use the camera, the camera will slow to a crawl. My husband took video and it crashed without saving. Not everyone runs into this, though.

On rare occasions we have phone calls in which the sound on one or both sides cuts out for a moment or two. I had way worse problems trying to have a call on the Xs Max when I had it and my iPhone 8 Plus is usually lousy as a phone so this doesn’t faze me, but it’s something to be aware of and look out for when you get your phone. Don’t hang up, the sound does come back on. It’s only happened between me and my husband and not between him and other callers so far. Once we both were on our Pixels. Once I was on iPhone and he was on Pixel.

Good luck on your break from iOS. I like iOS. I’m not tired of it or anything. I just like how Android caters to me more. It’s kind of the difference between having a maid service pop over once a week to clean your house or having Alice from the Brady Bunch living with you and getting to know you and taking better care of you. But yeah, Alice does know everything about you and the maid service at least keeps up the illusion they don’t know you and it’s all impersonal. But in reality they all know your family leaves their socks all over the place.

Also, Tim’s renaming a particular product for a certain market and offering it to them first, despite it being a celebrated fundraiser for Apple’s other markets, does not sit well with me. It’s shown me the real character of Apple now. I do not have a problem with doing business with that market. It’s how the business is conducted that alienated me. This particular action to my mind was beyond the pale.

What is the product?

Not to change subjects, but Samsung just showed everyone again how hardware and specs should be done on a flagship phone.

Anyone thinking about picking up any of the new S10 models?

Lol! I got used to it, but you should have seen my son’s face when he saw it. It was similar to the first time I tried to give him vegetables.

I probably will as well, but there was this instant reaction.

Apparently you learn to live with the notch just like with any other recent phone.

I know, I just wasn't expecting it to be like this for some reason.

Curious as one of the things I will have to get used to is no Apple Watch. I’m not a huge fan of android wear but wondering if anyone has paired the Pixel with the Fitbit verse and how your experience was.

I might just try to go the “no watch” route for a bit though. Lol

Every year I am tempted (got the S6, S8 and S9 at launch) and every year I sell the Samsung phone after 3-4 months. The only reason I'm tempted this year is my Pixel 3XL seems to lose battery percentage just by me looking at the phone. I blink, and I lose 2% here or there. It's really variable and annoying. Annoying enough for me to go to Samsung and deal with all that comes with it, probably not, the grass isn't greener. I'll play with the S10 in store for sure though.

I haven't really given Samsung more then a quick glance or two lately, since the note 4. I have an s7e for my main line. It doesn't get much use, I grab one of my other devices more often unless I need something that's tied to that line They do have nice hardware and lately they seem to be one of the last carriers that have been copying iPhones, which is ironic but maybe getting sued made them think more for themselves instead of "apple is doing it"

Anyway I haven't looked at the latest crop of devices, I have thought about grabbing a note 9 unlocked or something. What really pushes me away from the devices is you almost need yet another account to use the phone, a Samsung account, and the amount of bloatware you can't remove, just disable. I mean my s7e reminds me weekly to reboot my device and last time I clicked on the notification it wanted me to sign up for a Samsung account

Also there is the aggressive baby sitting it does on itself "the app you are currently using is using battery" well, no ---- Sherlock

There are other annoyances as well that irk me and strike me as unnecessary. Root would let me take care of some of those issues but well that seems highly unlikely.

That said I'll probably take another quick gander at the newest batch once they hit the local best buy.

That's always been my experience with Samsung as well. Amazing devices and displays but they sometimes feel like a chore to use.

I think you guys need to give Samsung another chance. I used to despise them but decided to give them another try a couple years back with the Note 8. Battery life aside it's still the best android device I've ever used. Software-wise they made big leaps since the Touchwiz days and they've gotten better about adding features that are actually useful and not just gimmicks. I will admit theres still a fair amount of tweaks you have to make for them to run exactly how you want them, but I'd rather have the ability to make those tweaks than be told how to use my phone.

I'm not a Samsung fanboy by any means, but if you haven't used a Galaxy phone since the S7 or before, I'd recommend giving it another shot.
