Bromite is the browser that you want for non rooted phones. I use Opera. IMO Opera is the best browser for smartphones. Like SwiftKey, a new dimension.

Thanks, so I went to look for a bromite app it's not on the play store, then I looked at downloading it via a website and really no downloads I saw, then I found an APK site and downloaded the latest .72 version, and installed it, but don't see bromite in my app drawer.

So is this some type of overlay for Chrome ? Bromite installs itself in Chrome ?

EDIT:

I looked up Bromite website again, found the official site, and the download option at the bottom of the page, sort of hard to see. Installed that, and it's there now.

Wish there was a way to have the navigation bar at the bottom like the Samsung Browser.

I just downloaded this. Is there a way to actually get it to sync with your Google Account (for bookmark and password sync)? When I got to settings -> recent tabs, it gives me the option to "sign in to Chrome" but takes me to my phone's account manager and says I already have a Google account setup.

I'll tinker with it more....

Would you two like to swap places with me? We are averaging 86-95 degrees down here in South Africa, along with rolling blackouts, so A/C isn't always a given, and 8 forget to charge my phone before a blackout I'm screwed
emoji28.png
luckily the Mate 20 Pro has a huge battery, but still, woke up to go to work today, found that I had forgotten to charge, was at 45%, and rolling blackout hit just as I woke up, at least I had more than enough juice in the phone.

Got my 15000mAh power bank on charge now to avoid any close calls.
emoji1787.png
Holy poop. Nah, dont want to swap places .I have an idea of what that is like. It used to be like that here, (on a less intense scale, I'm sure), before our local power company told all the tree hugging crew to get stuffed, they were going to prune or outright chop down any tree or bush within contact distance of the power lines. They were tired of getting fined and roasted in the press every time a butterfly so much as fart and created sufficient breezes to knock one of the eleventy billion tree branches onto a line and take out the power.

It was decades overdue, let me tell you. I lost so many of my aquarium fish to power outages back then. We had so many places where it was impossible to tell where the tree branches ended and the utility lines started. We always had this very vocal contingent who more or less control local press and have the ears of the politicians and they were always publishing editorials saying anyone who wanted to see any tree pruning was an environment hating heathen.

Anyway it got so bad finally something was done. The trees actually look much healthier now.

We do get hot summers here, too with wretched humidity. And now we get lots and lots of tornados. They're tiny things that rarely make the news, but the thing is we never used to get tornadoes when I was a kid or teenager. Now we get some really strange wind storms from time to time. And the weirdest looking lightning. I have to incorporate tornado drills into family safety routines and that's something my parents never needed to do for us when I was a kid. Earthquakes are new, too. I experienced 2 a few years ago. I don't know if we will get another one here in my lifetime. As entertaining as ours were, I still hope not.

Anyway I sympathize with your wretched weather and rolling blackouts. It sounds like it's not something that is going to get remedied anytime soon, too, so you have my respect for your good attitude and self sufficiency .

After having this conversation yesterday I checked my XM2s. I'm always getting LDAC
I figured it out! Bought the Sony XM3, wow what a terrific sound. At first the headphones would default to LDAC and "best effort" quality. Changing to "optimized for audio quality / 990kbps" would revert to "best effort" every time the headphones got turned off or phone restarted.

Solution is to download the Sony Music Center app from the Play Store. There's a setting called "bluetooth output settings" within the app where you can prioritize LDAC and also set playback quality to "prioritize audio quality."

Now whenever I connect the headphones it always defaults to LDAC and "optimized for audio quality" in developer settings.

I'm not an audiophile but prefer to set things to the highest setting, because why not. So to anyone rocking the Pixel and Sony LDAC capable headphones, download the Music Center app and it will solve this!

EDIT- If you restart the phone the setting will revert back to "best effort" until you re-open the Music Center app and then it will go back to the best audio setting. Once it's done it's done, you don't need to keep the app open. The setting sticks when you disconnect and re-connect the headphones and don't reboot the phone, however.

I'm actually in the same boat with my Pixel 3 XL. I've only had it for a month or so and it's getting pretty laggy.. and no, it's not a "rogue app" doing it (seems to be the same excuse for from fanboys). I'll likely do a factory reset at the end of the week when I have time to set things up again (including wear os watch, etc.)
[doublepost=1549902649][/doublepost]

come on. I've typically liked reading your posts over time but this kind of nonsense needs to stop. As I just previously posted, my Pixel 3 XL has started to get slow and laggy and I've only been using it for just over a month. Just because a few people have the issue and you don't, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I'm not going to come in here and bash the phone by any means. I still like it a lot over my Xs Max but the lag / slow to launch apps and camera is becoming annoying. I'll just factory reset and hope it fixes it. Not in here to complain or bash anyone but tired of every post now becoming a "you vs me" post where "you" is always wrong.
My husband's just started lagging. He just told me about it a little while ago. He thought he could quickly troubleshoot it away but no, not so far. He experienced a lag during a putt that messed him up on his golf game app.

Mine lagged this morning when I tried to stick a Porg up in a tree in the Playgrounds app on the camera, but is certainly not lagging now. I reboot almost instinctively after I use Playgrounds. I have not yet met Childish Gambino but I'm planning to. :p

Mostly I use that app for the porgs and BB-8, but I do suspect it's a trouble maker because my Pixel camera acts a bit jerky for awhile after I exit it.

Has there been any discussion anywhere about what's causing the lag? It's so weird to see any lag on such a clean looking version of Android. Thankfully so far I am not other than what I just mentioned about Playgrounds and those AR stickers.

Do you prefer Pixel 3xl over iPhone XS Max?
Oh sorry I missed your question to me. I was going backwards to see what people had said about lag since my husband just told me it's happening on his phone today.

I like the Pixel 3XL (assuming all is working as it should be) better because it's lighter in weight and I like Android on it a bit better than iOS right now. And the display is easier on my eyes. I got nasty neurological problems from my Max display and had to return it. Oh and I had connectivity problems galore on that Max.

I admit that probably is sufficient to bias me against a great phone that most other people would probably rate much higher due to overall superior quality control and build quality. Not everyone has the connectivity problems. I'm not really clear on what's going on with that. And only a small percentage of people report having neurological or visual problems with the display. If you're the lucky person who is not bothered by the OLED and get one that doesn't have connectivity problems, and you don't care about whatever everyone is complaining about Netflix video playback issues, the Max may be one of the best phones you could get Many people are thrilled with theirs.

I do miss the sound that the Max put out. My goodness that was like holding a concert hall in my hands. Apple did beautifully there. My Xr's sound is excellent but the Max I had was kittens in top hats level of amazing.

The Pixel 3XL would be my idea of a great value and ideal smartphone BUT there are these concerning issues like the reports of lag and the call dropouts that I've seen in action. We don't lose the call entirely, but for a hairy few moments nobody on the call can hear the other. It doesn't happen often but that's one of those things where you absolutely don't want it happening at all, especially not during emergencies. That's the kind of thing that keeps me interested in what Samsung is doing. My S9+ has been very reliable so far.

Looks like I hit some nasty battery drain issue last night. This morning when I picked up the Pixel 3 it was all dead. I charged it at work and it was relatively unused, so it should've made it overnight. Strange.

I had quite a drain the other night as well as my phone went from full to 35% overnight. Seems like it was due to Ruuvi Tags (https://ruuvi.com/) background scanning. I had it on before, but adding another tag to the mix shot the battery drain through the roof. Apparently the app doesn't combine the scanning schedules but scans each on individual schedules. I disabled the background scan and lost only 10% or so last night.

Hi guys ,

Been thinking jumping to android from iOS. I switch a lot. Mostly to Samsung but i think I will prefer the simplicity of the pixel 3 XL as opposed to all the bells and whistles of phones like the note etc

From my research the concerns I have are the following

The brightness in the sun.

Have read it’s been an issue to some and others are okay with it.

Battery life.

Will I get at least half a day ? I get almost all day with my Max

Call and audio quality.

Heard there was issues as well just wondering if it has been fixed with updates.

Thanks again guys

Hoping to join the pixel team soon :)

Here's where I'm at.... and this is just my opinion, not to start a flame war which has happened before in this thread ;) And I own a Pixel 3 XL and an iPhone Xs Max (since launch day)

The brightness in the sun. not an issue for either phone for me

Battery life Xs Max life > P3XL life but P3XL isn't bad. My Max I get a full day no matter what I do with the phone but the P3XL can need a little juice in the evening if I push the phone really hard in a day.

Will I get at least half a day? yes, likely more depending on your usage. You could get a full day if you are a light or moderate user. heavy use may require a charge at 7pm or so. But the included USB-PD charger charges the phone incredibly fast.

Call and audio quality. both are good, but for me, I think my Max is suffering from the potential antenna flaw in this generations of phones. It's hard to maintain a call in my house with my Max (on TMobile) but P3XL has no issues. Both phones sound good for call audio, no issue there.

Heard there was issues as well just wondering if it has been fixed with updates. memory management issues were supposedly fixed in the December or January update but it seems like the February update has caused some Pixels to lag (anecdotally, nothing scientific to backup). I've been seeing regular lag and did a factory reset yesterday to try to fix the gremlins. So far so good but kind of a PITA

Brightness in the sun is fine.

Battery life is good not great, but it's a one day phone minimum.

You should get at least half a day

Call audio was a weak spot for me

Memory management is mostly fixed but the February update appears to be causing some issues with some people here but I'm not one of those people.

How is call audio quality through speakerphone?
It sounds good on my husband's phone. I haven't tried it on my 3XL yet.

Just dropping in to say whatever lagged my husband's phone has stopped and it's back to normal.

Better through the speakerphone than in phone mode, honestly. The audio quality on the regular phone on Pixel 3 XL is just not good enough.
Oh I thought mine sounds pretty nice. Not quite as good as my S9+ and maybe has a few more cracks and pops come up than on my Xr. But still pretty good, considering I'm out in the country with LTE service that fluctuates widely and wildly if the status bars are an indicator. Sometimes I do Wifi calling and sometimes not. That can sometimes be kind of "meh" too on all of my phones.

I guess I have been used to bad sounding calls on my iPhones 6s-8, though, with the worst being iPhone 7 Plus. When my husband would try to call my 7 Plus from his 7 Plus it was usually a disaster. We'd have to hang up and try again on our Samsungs.

Best was my HTC 10. Best phone call quality I've ever had was on that phone. I still have it and am often tempted to put it back into service. My Pixel 2 actually comes surprisingly close, though and is better overall, which is why I haven't.

Thinking about getting a Pixel 3XL with the deal on moving the Fi. Anyone know what the service is like? And how is the 3XL compared to the Note 9?

Fi service isn't too bad, in my area cdma works better at building penetration then gsm does (which makes me wonder why they'd shut down cdma) I use Fi as my secondary line. It does get a little wonky at work probably because of location. I'd suggest trying it out first on a separate line before porting your main number over to it.

--

Been using my XL 3 a bit more while my 2 is charging and I do have to admit that gesture navigation I was not too keen on at first, well, I'm kinda getting used to it, at least a little bit.

I haven't quite put my 3 into rotation yet, but I'm thinking of slapping my Fi Sim in it and making it my secondary line.

I think I'll do just that. If I like it, moving the number over should be no trouble.

I was on the road last night and watching movies. Nothing “hi def super wow”, it was just Amazon Prime downloads in 1080p.

One was “Annihilation” which as a Star Wars fan, I watched more out of the novelty of seeing “Poe Dameron” married to “Padme Amidala”.

I have only ever seen Natalie Portman in two roles and whatever the hell she played in this movie, I think the character’s name was Lena, and Padme Amidala are both it and I can’t honestly tell any difference between the two characters. She...talks...so...slow..ly.

It was interesting seeing Oscar Isaacs with a script trying to suck all the charisma out of him and failing because he’s just that awesome. They even had him unconscious for most of his scenes and he still had more charisma than everyone else. Though in one scene he says really slowly “I...really...love...you...Lena.” In another scene he says “hey” and she says it back. And yet, as they say, it is still a better love story than Twilight.

The other movie was from 1985, “Silver Bullet,” which is a werewolf movie based on a Stephen King story. I’d forgotten how popular morphing people into animals was in the 80’s. They came out with loads of tv shows and movies with plots centered around showing off how special effects people and makeup artists finally could do that. This was one of the goofier of those movies, but at least it had Gary Busey as everyone’s favorite drunken uncle.

Both movies had a lot of darkly lit scenes which gave the 3XL a chance to show how pervasive the black crush is in such scenes. It was all perfectly watchable. It just looked very unimpressive. I know my S9+ puts out a nicer picture with better rendering of details despite its own battles with some black crush.

The other interesting thing I discovered was that I could cause stutter and pauses in the playback anytime by touching the fingerprint sensor while watching the movie.

I wonder what other stutters and glitches have been caused in other apps by touching the fingerprint scanner while in use.

Needed an iOS device for work and while most people have an 8 or 8+, I convinced my company to allow me to get a refurbed X. Double-edged sword because a free phone is a free phone. However, I don't know that I'll be able to @jamezr and use both phones. I'll try it for a while and see what happens.
