I'm actually in the same boat with my Pixel 3 XL. I've only had it for a month or so and it's getting pretty laggy.. and no, it's not a "rogue app" doing it (seems to be the same excuse for from fanboys). I'll likely do a factory reset at the end of the week when I have time to set things up again (including wear os watch, etc.)
[doublepost=1549902649][/doublepost]
Whataboutisms are the bottom of the barrel in terms of a counterargument. For all the Pixel/Nexus line problems, lag is fairly far down the list.
[doublepost=1549834835][/doublepost]
Wow. Sample size of three. Chuckles abound. Next we can all go fishing into respective reddit feeds to find more complainers. Or anyone who doesn't want the 3XL can go return it and/or sell it and we can all move on.

come on. I've typically liked reading your posts over time but this kind of nonsense needs to stop. As I just previously posted, my Pixel 3 XL has started to get slow and laggy and I've only been using it for just over a month. Just because a few people have the issue and you don't, it doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I'm not going to come in here and bash the phone by any means. I still like it a lot over my Xs Max but the lag / slow to launch apps and camera is becoming annoying. I'll just factory reset and hope it fixes it. Not in here to complain or bash anyone but tired of every post now becoming a "you vs me" post where "you" is always wrong.

Three weeks in with the 3XL as my daily driver and still no major issues. I've taken lots of photos and haven't gotten any camera lag. I don't get stutter or lag during general use. Occasional micro stutter when opening Google Play app.

I do experience a really annoying bug that I've emailed to Google twice now. The weather status on the home screen / AOD screen. If I leave my town and travel say over 100 miles I get no weather display. I traveled out of state over the weekend and it happened again. I got back home yesterday, weather magically appears again. Anyone have a fix for this?

Battery life still stinks, it is so variable. Sometimes I'll get 5+ hours screen time, other times I'll get 2.

I've had no RAM issues. I've recently tried playing PUBG mobile and can switch between that and email or messages or Chrome just fine. Sure if I opened PUBG and 3 other games I'd get stutter or lag, but that's not my usage so it doesn't bother me.

After rolling with the device for the past 3 weeks I'm glad I got it for $600 (Best Buy paid down payment of $300). I don't think any Android is worth more than $600 but that's another discussion. I'd be annoyed yet still accepting if I paid full price, considering you're getting guaranteed timely updates. Which is important to me.
I noticed AOD seemed to be a battery hog for me. I turned it off and it has gotten better.
But then that is a great feature to sacrifice for battery life :-(
I wonder if when you are driving those distances if cell reception plays a part in the loss of battery life?
If the phone is in a poor cell area...it can drain the battery while it constantly tries to get a better signal. Just a thought.

I know, I like to leave AOD enabled and will just deal with the battery hit.

I didn't have loss of signal when traveling. The weather didn't re-appear once I got to my destination either. I drove last weekend and flew this past weekend. Very strong cell signal in both areas but weather just won't re-appear unless I'm at my home area. I've read posts on reddit and Google forums about it, so I know it's not just me, but no one seems to have a working solution. I've quadruple checked my location settings and everything is enabled for high accuracy except for wifi scanning. What an annoying bug.

I'm going out of town soon. I guess that will be a test of the phone for me .

I don't doubt lag is happening and that's a damn shame but the question is why is it happening. And what is Google going to do about it.

My S9+ has had on some rare occasions an animation stutter here and there, but still no lag. But it hasn't been on Pie for very long either. If a Samsung phone can avoid lag but a Google can't, wow. Is that one of the signs of the Zombie Apocalypse? ;)

AOD is one of the most compelling features of this phone. I'd only turn it off on a road trip to save battery.

Add bluetooth codecs to the bug list. Working from home today and decided to stroll to Best Buy to look at the newest Sony bluetooth headphones. I also did some reading about this and sure enough it happens to me. The phone defaults to SBC codec even if I go into developer options and change it to LDAC. It doesn't stick. Also can't change LDAC bit rate quality.

It is odd because when I use my current headphones it automatically sets to AptX HD. Maybe it was because the headphones at Best Buy were a demo pair, or a Sony issue but this is a major issue for me. Pixel 2 previously worked just fine last year with Sony LDAC headphones.

I can’t really help test any of that. We have Beats headphones and the AKG ones we got from a Samsung promotion. I honestly wouldn’t know which codec is being used. I don’t really check. I just know if it sounds bad or good. Some audiophile I am!

is that the 1000xm3 or whatever? Did you install their app? I'm only asking because when my 1000xm2s are connected to my phone I get some notification about the app.

It's probably also a Sony issue. I have some FLAC music files, probably placebo effect, but I like that my current headphones can use AptX HD with the Pixel. iPhones use AAC with headphones that are compatible which is more than adequate.

Yeah the XM3. I had the app installed from prior Sony headphones and paired the Pixel with the demo XM3. It stayed on SBC no matter what I did. Perhaps there is a software update for the headphones that the demo doesn't allow. I don't yet own the Sony XM3, I held off on buying because of this. I had + sold the XM2 before which paired perfectly with the Pixel 2 and used LDAC. I have the B&W PX and they are incredible just extremely uncomfortable with very narrow sweet spot due to the angled speakers :/

Do you have any issues with your XM2 and the Pixel 3? Are you able to remain on LDAC and "better" quality like 600kbps?

Looks like I hit some nasty battery drain issue last night. This morning when I picked up the Pixel 3 it was all dead. I charged it at work and it was relatively unused, so it should've made it overnight. Strange.

Dis you have a look at the Battery Stats and see what exactly was keeping it up?

Maybe it was updating some large apps and games or there was a Playstore security update or something.

After having this conversation yesterday I checked my XM2s. I'm always getting LDAC

Something weird was going on with electronics last night. My daughter said she woke up several times last night to find different electronics in her room turned off. One was an air purifier she uses mostly for the white noise it generates. Another was actually the alarm on her iPad. She said she checked it to make sure it was set for the morning and it was switched off, which is impossible as far as I know for a set alarm in iOS to turn itself off. She had to have done it in her sleep or forgotten to set it. But she insists she checked it when she went to bed.

There is ice all over the trees and plants and I was just kicked off my computer because the power went off and on in the blink of an eye. It had done that earlier this morning and I had to reboot our Amplify WiFi extender. I do believe our heating system is now down, too. Great.

Are you located where there is a problem with your power grid? Maybe we are neighbors. ;)

We had ice yesterday and didn’t have all this electrical trouble. I don’t know what’s going on.

Well that’s a strange coincidence :O We also had some of the slush that was formed during the last few days freeze back a little, but there wasn’t anything unusual going on regarding electricity or anything else. I also didn’t find any obvious battery hog in the usage stats after I got the phone back up and running.

I guess with the largish pond between the continents it takes quite a liberal view to consider us neighbors :D Also with the road signs being still in Finnish and Swedish I don’t think I accidentally moved to the US :)

I thought this was interesting...

Google Pixel Is 'Fastest-Growing US Smartphone Brand' Says Report
https://www.forbes.com/sites/brooke...ays-report-pixel-3-vs-iphone-xs/#4a2cfa7640ce

But is it really surprising? Samsung Galaxy phones and iPhones have been at the forefront for years and have hit a wall that comes with everyone who wants one being able to get one for a long time. Google is a brand everyone knows (vs. any of the oversees OEMs) and the Pixels have been marketed pretty heavily the past couple years. Pixel cameras are universally considered the best at this point.

And let’s be honest, when you start with next to no market share, you really only have one direction to go. ;)

Off topic to this phone itself. But why can't I get Chrome to be add free, like I can the Samsung Internet Browser?

I'm not rooted anymore, but use either DNS666 or Blokda, or AdGuard. All of those do a great job on the Samsung Browser, no adds or pop ups.

But Chrome, my god, it's unusable, with pop ups or flashing ads.

I have that one setting correct with the job ads or something.

I've got three different ad blockers now loaded into my Samsung browser but some news sites I have clicked on from Google News still manage to display ads. Ones that move or flash are super annoying. I get a bit of that in safari. What I don't get on iOS that I do put up with on Android apps is ads embedded in the apps. I've therefore taken off news apps from my Pixel and just now use the browser version of news sites and let the ad blockers drastically reduce the ads .

I'm also subjected to much more Amazon marketing in my Amazon shopping app than I see in the iOS version. That I don't mind as much because it actually provides a more useful interface to find deals. I don't mind advertising when I am using a shopping app and expressly shopping and looking for deals. Sometimes the iOS version of Amazon is a bit too stripped down.

This is one of my big beefs with web browsing in general on Android.

Yes, I know mobile Safari on iOS isn’t a full desktop web browser but I still find it to be the best mobile web browsing experience, for three specific reasons. 1) Content blocking from third party plug-ins. 2). Password Manager integration (both native and with third party apps). 3). In app features (navigation bar, gestures, tap-to-top, tabs in landscape). I also must have 4) cross device/platform syncing. I understand 3) is heavily subjective and I can deal with differences here but 1), 2) and 4) are must haves for me and I haven’t found anything that does more than 2 of these.

Chrome supports Password Managers and cross device syncing but no content blocking and its absence makes web browsing some sites almost unuseable. I’m also not a big fan of so many functions buried in the top right hamburger menu. The Samsung browser is probably my favorite UI on Android, has content blocker options and Samsung offers a Chrome plug-in to sync with Chrome bookmarks but it has no integration with third party password managers like 1Password or LastPass and I’m not using Samsung’s solution as it isn’t cross device/platform. This is a deal breaker. It’s the same situation with Firefox.

So at this point I’m begrudgingly using Chrome but it’s quickly becoming a sticking point in my consideration to switch to the Pixel 3 XL full time.

Anyone else have a suggestion? And no, I’m not installing a system wide blocker.

Would you two like to swap places with me? We are averaging 86-95 degrees down here in South Africa, along with rolling blackouts, so A/C isn't always a given, and 8 forget to charge my phone before a blackout I'm screwed luckily the Mate 20 Pro has a huge battery, but still, woke up to go to work today, found that I had forgotten to charge, was at 45%, and rolling blackout hit just as I woke up, at least I had more than enough juice in the phone.

Got my 15000mAh power bank on charge now to avoid any close calls.

Well now WiFi calling has gone to crap on my phone. I reset network settings, tried safe mode, reset router, nothing worked. I've enabled and disabled "mobile data always active" in dev settings, no change. What happens is whenever I make or receive a call, the call always fails after 5 seconds. It has something to do with WiFi / LTE transition or hand off I think. I enabled airplane mode and also just WiFi, and made calls just fine over WiFi calling. Disabling WiFi calling also worked fine. But the second I enable WiFi calling and make a normal call with LTE active, something wonky just goes down causing the call to always drop.

Everything worked fine until yesterday, maybe it is just a local Verizon issue? I'm back on my XS because, well, I kind of need a working phone, and have no issues with calls. I have no patience or time to deal with Verizon support or Google support, both will not have any solutions I am pretty sure. Hope it works itself out. If not I will have to try an RMA through Google at some point.

This is why I continue to always have an iPhone handy...

It is with some sadness that I am parting ways with my beloved Pixel 3 XL. Well, not really sadness since I managed to pick up a Mate 20 Pro. :D

I'll be posting my phone, cases, charging stand on Swappa. I'd post here but not sure there's any interest outside of this thread!

I'll still be around here since I love this phone. Just ready for a new adventure with the Mate 20 Pro.
