Who the heck is this John Lewis tech guy?

And hell if I'd hand over my phone to this dude for a month. Too bad Google themselves can't get involved and help?

The haptic motor in the Pixel 3 XL was definitely the best Android I've used. But saying it's probably better than the iPhone is just flat out wrong. The preciseness of the iPhone haptic motor is several levels about anything on any Android device. It's that good.
opinions are always welcome...but unless you have used every Android device made....

Haha - he isn't a person (well, he probably was!) but it's a massive department store here in the UK.

The tech guy was just some idiot who works for the company at that particular store I bought from who didn't know anything about phones. I told him the problem and he spent 5 minutes looking through settings. I mean.

Saying that a Prius is better than a Ferrari is an opinion as well. That doesn't make it right. ;)

Unless there was a massive price difference, I'd only buy from Google direct. Sending out a replacement before sending back the faulty one is how it should be done.

£300 off Pixel 3/3 XL at the moment over here. Was slightly tempted but not worth sacrificing the 3a XL battery for a 2nd front camera.

I miss Q.

But as @michael9891 said it's just the banking apps which have had me go back to P.
I was on beta in Q and my banking apps worked fine. However I went back to P because despite the fact that I have roaming turned off my phone suddenly went into roaming mode. Verizon was confused as to why it was happening and assured me that I wasn't going to be charged for it and didn't run the risk of being kicked off the network for being in roaming for so many days. The rep flat out said "yeah we don't do that!" before I could even finish the sentence. Honestly I don't notice much difference between P and Q other than a few cosmetic tweaks here and there. I do miss the toggle for dark mode though.

In April I got the Pixel 3 for £479 from John Lewis.
It hasn't been that cheap since and was never that cheap before. I think at the time it was still like £700 and something from Google direct, hence jumping in on it.

Opted in for the Q beta. Downloading now. Or at least I think I am. Had an update sitting for a bit I kept ignoring.

Sitting at 1246.3 mb, so fingers crossed it's the Q beta and not P update that's been nagging me.

Possibly good bye root on this phone (for now):(

Edit:

So, um, oops, it wasn't. It was the full P image apparently, after it rebooted, I got the prompt for Q beta... Debating if I wanna just go ahead and download another 1.3 gb on top of what I did and the nearly 3gb Debian image last night. Wonder if I have a data cap o_O:eek:

Edit 2
Running Q (QPP5)

How is the latest beta? I've been thinking of giving it a go.

Just getting into it. Haven't used it much yet. Spent a little time trying to get rooted but TWRP is basically useless right now, probably needs updating. Haven't tried to patch the boot image route yet. I already miss root lol

A couple of my icons have a lot of white space around them. Gestures are a bit wonky for me, just need to get into them.

Two updates for this phone already today. o_O

Noob question .How do I get Q5 on my phone?

I'm stock. I just enrolled in the beta program. I went to Settings - System - Advanced - System Update .

But just says July security update installed, no new updates .

The Q beta 5 just popped up for download. I installed it. Seems cool, I like the dark mode, and gesture controls take some getting used to. But the old school 3 button layout is much faster. Developer Options lets you chose between the options, Gestures, 2 button layout, 3 button layout.

I thought they added swipe down anywhere on screen to pull the notification shade down, like all third party launchers do? I thought this feature was in beta 5?

Wait, the classic nav button layout is back?! did I read this right? Off to look!

I'm still running Q without root. Haven't had a chance to pull the zip and yank the boot image from it to patch.

Kinda wonder if it'll actually make sense to even root with Google basically doing a rolling release lol.

The ads are, well, annoying and some sites there are just too many and too the point I don't want to visit

So these new gesture controls, they look cool, and seem to give you a little more screen real estate at the bottom, but they just don't seem as practical as the good old 3 button layout.

To go back home screen while in a browser. You have to grap the pill and drag it up. Or the old school way, just quickly tap the center button. The new gesture control takes a good second, the old school 3 buttons, you just tap it, and in a blink of an eye yoyo back home.

Ad blocking works for me just a couple of my banking apps aren't. Considering rolling back to Pie!

What are you using for ad blocking? I usually use adaway but needs root and since TWRP don't work on Q yet, that means patching the boot image.

Thought about reverting to pie again but don't wanna wipe my device.

I am glad the 3 button navigation is back though!
