It’s a really challenging trade off. The battery on the 3 is horrendous but I’m so into wireless charging that it’s tough to give up. And water proofing. Underrated feature. I was at a lake today and my phone slipped right out of my hand while taking pics of the kids. Went about 2 feet under water for about 5 seconds. No damage at all. Tough time if the year to have a phone without water proofing.

No glass back, wireless charging, water resistance, slightly better haptics, and a visual core processor (photos process faster on the 3 XL). But the 3a models get much better battery life. I'm happy with my 3a.
Same here im happily rocking 3a as my daily driver for 3weeks....

Finally got an update notification on my 3 XL a couple days ago. I've been swiping it away. I think this is the first one I've gotten or that snuck it's way through.

I'm sure it'll fail if I try to install.

Maybe I should try the Q beta as a way to start clean without needing to use ADB. Ugh maintaining root and updated on pixels is a bit of a pita. Maybe I really should use OP for my tinkering.

I used to be a big rooter and ROM guy, but with monthly security updates, it was such a pain in the balls and difficult process I stopped rooting since my Pixel 2 XL, and haven't on my 3 XL really.

I wish it wasn't such a hassle, and be cool if you could keep root somehow and still install the update.

Think I have a problem with my Pixel 3.

When I'm on the phone to people the keep complaining that I 'drop out' intermittently for around 5 seconds and then come back.
But I've noticed the same thing when I'm talking to people. They will just go completely silent and then come back in normally.

I was on the phone to my sister a few days ago and had her on speakerphone and it did it then, but I assumed it was to do with the speakerphone, but today my sister was here with me and I was on the phone (with it to my ear) and it did it again. I moaned about it when I got off the phone and my sister said she notices it all the time when I am on the phone to her.

I bought it from John Lewis, who give a 2 year warranty so may have to give them a call.

So annoying that in the last year / two years, the only phones I've ever had problems with is a Pixel 2 (several of them...) and this Pixel 3.

sorry you are having issues. IMHO Google quality control department needs a restructure. It took me 3 P2XLs before I got a good one and 3 P3XLs so far as well.
That is not acceptable....BUT...it won't stop me from getting the P4XL....the phone is just worth it to me in the long run.

I totally agree. Any other phone I'd be repairing, getting rid and getting something else. Any excuse an all that ha.
But I'll just have it repaired and keep it - don't want anything else as nothing else comes close.

Will call them now and see what they say.

Similar experience as me, with Pixel 2/XL and 3/XL. Oddly enough the 3a I just got is perfect on the first try. Go figure haha.

I get the feeling that they fixed some QC issues when launching the 3a. I’ve watched a lot of “1 month later” reviews and literally none of them cite any kind of issues that have become the norm with previous Pixel launches.

I rung them and the guy confirmed the problems I was having as he kept telling me he couldn't hear me and I broke up and went silent.

I was like "so this is the fault in trying to explain...!"
He said I'd need to call back on a different phone to do some trouble shooting but after 15 minutes on hold I told him I was reluctant to do that and I wasn't sure if trouble shooting would help.

He told me to go into store with the original receipt (which I thankfully kept) and they will send it for repair. So annoying. I don't have a second phone to use either so god knows what I'm gonna do for a phone.

Still, needs fixing as I want to be able to sell it when the 4 is out etc and need it to be in working order.

Buy a 3a and hold onto your repair to trade in when the 4 comes out.

If I had to send a phone off because they can't get QC control right, I'd buy another to use and send back once mine is repaired within the 14 day window. I'm sure most would frown upon that but why should I go without while a multi billion dollar company fixes their mistake?

I just can't with the shortcomings on the 3a.
I LOVE the haptic so much on the 3 and the 3a's just isn't there.

And I would buy another to send back but I can't afford to do that and don't have like a Credit Card or anything to whack it on to return as I don't have them.

I'll just have to repair it and try and organise a cheap phone to use in the mean time.

Ah. Understandable. I owned both and didn’t notice any difference other than not being able to wirelessly charge it.

Fair enough! :)
For me, the 3a haptics felt like any other Android vibration motor (so, rubbish, basically) whereas the regular 3 is up there (and probably better) than an iPhone.

I also didn't like the feel in hand of the 3a.

Although with them being cheaper still now, I may try and pick one up and do as @michael9891 says and return it within the 14 days so at least I can still use the great camera!

That is encouraging! Maybe big G is getting things in order for the P4 release in a few months! :)

No no. Then the vibration motor must have been broken on your 3a. Mine is just as good as the one on Pixel 3.

No no.
It is night and day different. I used them both side by side.
There is even options missing within the 3a settings for vibration compared to the 3 which tells you that the motor inside is different.

The haptic motor in the Pixel 3 XL was definitely the best Android I've used. But saying it's probably better than the iPhone is just flat out wrong. The preciseness of the iPhone haptic motor is several levels about anything on any Android device. It's that good.

Well it's all opinion isn't it. You have yours. Mine is "flat out wrong" apparently, so. :D

Gonna send off for repair today or tomorrow. May end up being tomorrow as I'm off and I may struggle to get there today. See what they say in store. Wish they'd just do an exchange.

So went to John Lewis and the 'tech' guy was actually laughable he was that much of a joke.
He said "what's your phone number" so I gave it him and he rung it, put it to his hear and went 'hello hello hello' 3 times and said "seems fine to me".

I said it is intermittent and happens constantly. It isn't as soon as the phone is answered it happens whenever.

So he just said it's got to go for repair. I asked for an exchange and he said no as over 31 days or something.

He was utter crap. I asked for a time scale he said 28 days. Great. So no phone for 28 days!

I have to be honest, this kind of thing really frustrates me - not just John Lewis, but Google. Like I said in a previous post it's only Pixels I have problems with.
I really am in a bad mood now!
