Sure, wireless charging isn't necessary. Neither are power windows in a car. I mean whenever you need air you can just lean over a little and roll the passenger-side window down. But after having power windows in my last few vehicles it sure is nice to have.

It's the same with my S8. My wireless charger quit working a few weeks ago and I haven't picked up another one yet. The phone does charge a lot faster hooked up to the wall, but the convenience of keeping the phone topped off while sitting at my desk was convenient. Now I find myself only charging when the battery is close to dead and now I walk around with less of a charge than before.
I think a big factor if you feel like you need wireless charging is the device battery life itself. I get 6.5 - 7 hours screen on time consistently. That lasts me from 6:30am - 11pm. So keeping my phone topped off all the time serves me little to no purpose if the phone can already last me all day.

I've owned 3 phones with wireless charging and only used it once on my first phone with the feature (nexus 5) and that was just to test it.

So I'm debating between this phone and the S9+. I have an iPhone X and I hate it. I could get an S9+ in August or September or wait until October for this phone.

I wonder if the pricing is going to be similar to the Pixel 3 XL? Or are they going to go the $1000+ range?

Imo I highly doubt Google deviates from last year prices.

If this is the Pixel 3 I’ll probably just hang onto my Pixel 2 XL for a while.

Looks like the HTC U12+ gives some inspiration for the Pixel 3 w/ dual front facing cameras. I might consider the Pixel 3 if the cost to switch is affordable, but it really requires me to spend additional $ for very diminished returns: stock Android, better camera, relatively faster SoC, 3D facial recognition.

But at what cost? No S-Pen, probably 2gb less RAM, no wireless charging (assumption here), no headphone jack, lower quality Samsung display, no Samsung Pay, no Samsung software features like Smart Alert, etc.

If that is the 3 then I’m happy with what the non XL looks like. Yay for slimmer bezels.
That XL looks awful.
There’s no reason what so ever for a notch on Android it adds absolutely nothing.

Be a shame to see Google go down that route like the rest of them.

Agree 100%...there is no reason for a notch on an Android phone.

Yea I'm not a big fan of the iPhone X notch. I'm going to go Galaxy S9+ until notches are a thing of the past. Honestly I don't mind a bit of top bezel like the S9+ has.

Instead of having a notch wrap the bottom bezel around the display and leave that teeny black bar at the top

certainly when the chin is still going to be there

It’s a useless notch to be honest. There are plenty of phones that have a great body to screen ration without a notch.
Then I don’t mind a little bezel. It helps with holding the phone.

This is one of those times where I really hate Android OEMs. They only do this because Apple does it but they don't seem to get that Apple had a limitation. There is no limitation here.

If the 3 XL has that chin + notch combo i'm probably going to go for the smaller model, unless they let you blend the notch in like the OnePlus 6.

I wonder if the pricing is going to be similar to the Pixel 3 XL? Or are they going to go the $1000+ range?

That is highly unlikely. The time to undercut Apple and Samsung on pricing is ripe. Smartphones have reached diminishing returns. The upper mid-range segment is going to gain market share as more consumers realise that the most expensive phones aren't worth their 30-50% premium over cheaper phones.

Google and One Plus are clearly playing a clever game of removing non-essential features. Developments like Animoji, wireless charging, S-Pen and Face-ID add a lot of costs.

I genuinely thought I was going to miss wireless charging but because the phone's battery is to good, I never have to top up during the day. When I do want extra I put it in flight mode, plug it in and within minutes I have 15-20% extra juice.

Currently I'm extremely happy with my Pixel 2 XL but could be tempted to upgrade if the rear camera on the Pixel 3 is a huge leap forward.

I hope there aren't major concessions to the smaller Pixel 3 compared to the 3XL. It better have the same amount of RAM, same camera setup (we're assuming dual cameras on the back, right? Since there are two up front), and same OLED display panel.

Remember, Google themselves said, "we don't offer separate experiences on the two devices." So let's see.

+Wireless charging and assuming the price of the Pixel 3 isn't ridiculous, I'd be on board.

Who thinks the back will look very similar to the HTC U12?

Definitely have my funds ready to upgrade to a Pixel 3 this year. I wanted the XL but if it has a notch then I'll go with the smaller version.

Personally I have a pet peeve with things that are not symmetric. It bothers me to no end lol. I don't think having the software eliminating the notch would help either. My mind knowing the notch is still there would bother me.

Really glad front facing speakers seem to carry on with the Pixel 3. I have the HTC U11 and although it's dual speakers it does not have close to the same effect that my nexus 6p had.

Fingers crossed the pixel 3 and XL has the same specs.

I definitely would buy the Pixel 3 if I had to choose between the two. I would hope the entry model has 6gb RAM, 845 processor, dual cameras, wireless charging, QHD display, IP67 water resistance, 3D facial recognition, a large battery, etc. If they sold it for $699 or less, I think people could buy it. Gotta get out of that crappy Verizon exclusivity deal though.
