My Apple Watch just arrived. I don’t know what’s wrong with my brain. UPS driver asked me to confirm my last name and I almost gave my maiden name which I haven’t used in a quarter of a century. And now I’m sitting here and I can’t remember how to decommission the old watch and set up the new one. o_O

I have to send the old one back in a couple of days. This watch was LATE! But at least I knew where it was and why it was delayed.

Now…getting back to Pixels, I’m really loving the camera samples! Honestly, and this is not a popular opinion, but I think Apple went a little bit overboard with the AI this year and its photos more often than not look a little bit cgi. There’s even a thread about it. Sometimes the Pixel photos look heavily processed, too. MKBHD was not wrong about Google needing to dial that back a little. But overall I really love the choices the AI is making for the exposures.

My husband hasn’t shot any videos yet so I don’t know about that. Your videos look good. I’m a little disappointed 4k 60 isn’t as flawless as it can be on the iPhone. But I do shoot in 4k 30 most of the time anyway to avoid little artifacts when panning. The iPhone 12’s definitely have them. I don’t know about the 13 Pro, I never got to shoot enough video on it. I actually don’t know what I’ll be shooting on the Xr with only 64 gigs of storage. I’m not going back to 1080 P so I’ll have to see how it goes. Most funny cat clips are only a minute anyway. But the school and holiday ones can really go on!

At any rate, if it ever gets here, I’m sure the 6 pro camera will suit me just fine.

It’s nice to see this thread not turn into a “I’m retuning my Pixel“ post-a-thon!
I'll admit, I thought that we would see more people disappointed with different elements of the Pixel, preventing them from keeping it. But how great that even with some early flaws, pretty much all of us early adopters are satisfied!

I'd chalk that down as a success from Google!

I am still noticing lots of different features that are so cool about the phone. Like check my conversation widget.
My mate replied to me with just a why? In relation to a conversation we were having. And the widget applied a load of question marks to the background! (His surname has been scribbled over).

Now THAT is pleasing to me! How cool!

I haven’t really yet looked at the latest round of comparisons. My situation is such that if it can get good kid and cat photos, doesn’t send me reaching for the aspirin, and accepts my fingerprints pretty steadily, it’s getting my second phone sim. End of.

iPhone 13 Pro took itself out of the running by literally making me sick. Samsung S21 Ultra camera sometimes exceeds expectations but can’t go toe to toe with the 13 Pro, in my opinion, on the impromptu cat photos or teenager reluctantly holding still for a moment so mom can get a picture of them. Those hardly ever turn out on my Samsung. The Pixel 6 Pro can get those shots from what I’ve seen the last couple of days. Oh and and the feature of it letting sound get through past wind noise is going to be great at the beach!

Whenever it gets here from Rancho Cucamonga 💃🕺👯‍♀️ If it gets here.🙄🤪

I’ll get one one of these days. 🤷‍♀️

I LOVE that sort of thing! Yeah even my husband, who is not one to hold back on the criticisms, thinks this phone is a great value and will get smoothed out soon enough. It’s not a phone you can evaluate in a day or two. You need to really dig in and see what it can do. They sneaked a lot of little features into it. It’s the Pixel Charm factor that made me so devoted to Snowball. If they truly nailed the hardware quality (I know there will be some defective units out there, Apple has them, too) then the charm will be backed up by more than just cuteness.

I will be honest the quality of the photos it can take of my cats and my 7 week old son is why is i don’t think I could return this pixel. As after all my family is what I will take the most photos on my phones. Certainly seeing my son grow up I want the best possible photos for him.

I would say in this area the pixel takes better photos than both my 13 pro max and s21 ultra for pets and my son

I’m so happy to hear that. I’m keeping up hope this will be the phone to keep me in the computational photography and advanced features game.

The Xr camera is really nice. I’m getting beautiful photos from it. It’s very much like a real camera. It’s just missing some computational help. So it needs good light.

From what we can tell so far, I can at least use the Pixel long enough to compose photos without any ill effects. (Yeah it’s that serious with the 13 Pro. I’m not the only one, there’s a sad section of the forum with other nice folks who have the same problem.).

My S21 Ultra screen is fine, too. It almost could have had the job of my second in command if not for the camera not quite getting those family pics. Landscapes and room photos are absolutely brilliant, though. No complaints there at all.

Actually some of the real competition will come from my 12 mini. That camera freezes action really well. In time, I hope to be able to use it again.

Right I'm going for a Pro too. I have the same set up as you lol and most of my photos are of my two young girls (7 and 2) and I do miss the Pixel camera for those great portrait shots that you can just literally point and shoot with little to no effort required.

Now the hunt to find one - here in the UK I can order a black 128GB for next day delivery as they have them in stock at Carphone Warehouse but I love the look of the cloudy white (which is the colour I originally pre-ordered before cancelling ) but I might have to wait for a while before I can get that one.

Pixel 6.

Liking the wide and ultra wide camera on the Pixel 6 so far. I have not run into a photo situation that has thwarted this sensor yet, though I find it to be a little bit extreme in processing some images as compared to my 3. Compared to the iPhone 13 pro, it flips from being more natural and correct looking, or, to being flat and not a good representation.

Hard to see in this example as I think the forums compress images a touch, but the iPhone is actually more correct in this shot. The day wasn't as monochromatic as the Pixel makes things look, I think it is getting a touch of lens flare that is taking away some of the actual (real to life) Contrast that existed in that scene.

Posted more golden hour comparisons in the other thread.
First, looking at these on a 27" iMac with 5K display.

If the compression was the same on both uploads, the iPhone image has noticeably much better detail and contrast. As you mentioned, the shot from the Pixel is quite flat. Zooming into any area show much better clarify and detail on the iPhone image.

Again, I'm a genuine amateur in regards to photography so take what I say with a grain of salt--just stating what stands out to me.

Focus point is different between the two with iPhone on background landscape while Pixel on foreground tree so it really depends if the photographer is more interested in the background or foreground. Pixel is flatter but is pulling more detail out of the tree and darker areas.

Just got home, opened and charging, haven’t turned it on yet. Quick first impressions, fancy nice build quality, it’s a large phone, curved display, hmm not a fan before we’ll see.

Case is a must on this phone, I’m not afraid to run naked LOL but this phone screams must-have-a-case.

A warning to AT&T Users.

If you are a frequent SIM swapper, they have made changes to their system that is quite frustrating to deal with!

I have just had to go to the AT&T Store to get access to my account, due to some really poorly engineered 2-Factor authentication "obscurity" (used as opposed to Security) policy. Here's what happened.

  1. I swapped sims the other day from my 6 to my iPhone 7 to pair my watch to activate Cellular. I was successful in seeing up sync to that number, I pulled that SIM and placed it into my Pixel 3 and BAM, Cellular still works on my watch. I later moved that same SIM to my new Pixel 6, and again, my watch will now ring / get cellular internet when my main SIM is inside my Pixel 6.
    1. This is a HUGE win, I can now respond and deal with iMessages when I am only carrying my Android phone and wearing a watch!
    2. I was able to overcome a hurdle I was frustrated with since my process of switching to Android as my Daily Driver.
  2. PROBLEM IS, When I made multiple SIM swaps in a short period, it triggered a Security system within AT&T. This put my number / SIM on a black list, meaning it was no longer acceptable to be used as 2-Factor authentication for their website, or ATT Application.
    1. Their reasoning behind this is based on the assumption that my SIM may have been stolen, so they remove it from 2-Factor authentication for their tools. AT&T ONLY uses SMS for 2-Factor.
      1. They don't contact you to verify
      2. They don't disable the SIM (The sim /internet / etc all works as normal)
      3. They don't Email the account on file.
      4. They will STILL bill you you normal monthly rate as if nothing happened, you Just can't access any online account or any of their Apps anymore....
  3. I couldn't access my account to do a change online, as 2Factor would ONLY text a device that hadn't had a recent hardware change, due to their "Obscurity" Policy. The only device on my profile that hadn't had a recent change (technically it did), was my Apple watch. PROBLEM IS, Texts, or calls sent to the cellular ## on an Apple Watch do not go through, they are not ever received by the user. I couldn't access my account, so I had to call into tech support.
  4. Calling in, support asked me for my "Account Password" to verify it was me (She said this twice). What they were actually after was an Account PIN (Something I didn't have setup, never used before), but hearing Password I looked up my 1-Password for this account and read off my EXTREMELY complex password that was well over 8 digits they require.
    1. NOPE, sorry that isn't correct.
    2. Nope that one isn't correct either.
    3. "The PIN is 4 - 8 digits sir", Me - You asked for my account Password, not PIN
    4. Whats the last 4 of your social so we can change your pin.
    5. We will send you a TXT to one of the numbers we have on file
    6. The only number they can access / TXT to was THE APPLE WATCH. Not even they can text my main cell number!???????????????????????
      1. There is no other recovery option over the phone
      2. No other details would be accepted, I kept being asked for my account Email so they could send me something there, but they didn't accept the Email address I was giving them. (WAIT since when is Email secure!!??)). After hanging up, and calling in 2x more times, I FINALLY was prompted that I HAD to drive into a store with my government ID to get my account unlocked. WHAT IF I WAS TRAVELING ABROAD, Lived 8 hours from the nearest store someplace deep in Montana?
  5. Now after I went into the store, with my ID, and went through the process to enter a PIN for phone support, I STILL can't access the website or my online account. Their system has to take data from the Store's iPad as to why the SIM swaps happened, and I have to wait 7 - 10 days for online access to be restored.

Now, All of my devices work fine, I really have no need to get online now, with the exception of perhaps changing some plan details. But I will do that with a new service provider after my online account is restored.
ATT Does not accept modern 2-Factor authentication methods, you can't use a app based, or even a digital key. Their Text only policy, and to an unmoved SIM is total garbage.

I am now making a decision on what service I want to port my phone number to. I will be leaving AT&T for the first time since the iPhone 4 was Launched, and I moved back to them from Verizon. I will be interviewing the potential new carrier to see how they handle these situations, and go through the process of activating the E-Sim in my 6, Port my AT&T Number over, and activate my watch with a more modern system.

I have a Visible SIM (Sub of Verizon), and a Mint Sim (NVNO of T-Mobile). I may go with one of those, but need to ensure coverage is up to par for my frequent haunts. In the end, this will be a good thing. Prices for AT&T have been on the creep, and their signal at my home is not as good as T-Mobile or VZW. I will have to do some soul searching here.

November's update has some improvements hopefully

I am still Mystified that the Pixel 3 doesn't get this update. There is zero technical reason that it is black balled. Once that is out, I can no longer use it on my work profile as it will not have the latest software . :(

Just got home, opened and charging, haven’t turned it on yet. Quick first impressions, fancy nice build quality, it’s a large phone, curved display, hmm not a fan before we’ll see.

So happy for you my friend! Enjoy. I sure as heck am loving my Budget pixel, gets more screen time than my iPhone 13 Pro. ;)

Agreed WTH they could definitely include ...

Just setting it up after dinner. The curved screen? Not sure about that. The fingerprint scanner, does it always flash a bright blinding white light each time? Ugh. The screen or display size, meaning the font or size of things looks too blown up large by default, needed to change that in Display settings, not the font, but the Display Size seems too big, at Small it seems to fit this big phone better.

Dark Mode isn't AMOLED Black, but dark grey, I wish with the 6 Pro's higher end display it would go black black.

But overall Android 12 I am very familiar with it, having run the beta on my Pixel 4 XL for months, so it's not new to me.

The fingerprint sensor always lights up like that. A little distracting when really dark.

So the last few days using my P6 Kinda Coral the FPS has been killing me. I deleted all the finger prints then re-added again and again. But it would take 3 times before it would read my fingerprints.

Today I got my Pixel 6 Pro Stormy Black came in. What a difference in the FPS! Like night and day. The 6 Pro FPS has been rock solid and pretty near perfect.
I initiated a defective device return for the P6 Coral. I think the FPS was defective.

Dark mode or light mode for Display settings? I'm typically a dark mode guy 90% of the time, but want to try out the lighter brighter side see how I like the stock non dark setting. I wish the dark mode was like the iPhone's being true OLED black.

Please oh please keep us posted on what you end up doing. My husband said at the time he looked into it a few years ago,T Mobile was also a pain about Sim swapping. Lol we are both a couple of regular Sim swappers as you can imagine, given how many phones we own.

These carriers want us totally dependent on them and at the mercy of contracts keeping us to one phone bought from them on payments. If you break out of that mold as you advance in your earnings, they don't like that. IPhone 6 Plus was the last iPhone I bought from AT&T on contract. My Note 7/S7 Edge was the last Android.

Admittedly, they did take good care of us through that fiasco. But only because the other carriers stepped up first.

Thank you for the warning. I shared it with my husband.

Thoughts on the upgrade from the 6 to Pro?

Oh my goodness it finally arrived? Congratulations to you and to @Tig Bitties for finally getting your Pros. I'm sorry to hear the fps on the coral wasn't working for you. I know that's unusual for you. You have always had success with these things where I'm locked out of my own phones. But I've had no issues at all with my husband’s phone. Which is unusual for me but I'm happy.

I can't wait to read your comparisons.
