I loved the Face Unlock from 4XL.
This does feel like a bit of a big step back, unfortunately. But would I rather have a notch... Not sure.

I miss the face unlock from the 4XL too. But I don't miss the huge notch
The 4XL doesn't have a notch...just a bit bigger 'forehead' vs. the bezel on the rest of the edges. And having a bit more bezel at the top doesn't bother me. In fact, I think the 4XL is easily my favorite Pixel design so far, especially in either the white or coral color.

The 3XL had the mighty huge notch to house those dual selfie cameras.

Does face unlock from the Pixel 4 just use the regular camera for the actual face recognition? I know the soli camera is used for proximity detection, but does it do the actual scanning or is that all the regular camera? If so, youd think it would be something they could add.
It uses hardware similarly to what Apple uses...IR dot projector to make a 3D model of the face. The soli sensor was used to recognize motion (i.e. reaching for the phone) to wake it up and start the unlock process. In theory (and in practice most of the time), it made the unlock process feel quicker than the operation on the iPhone.

I liked the Pixel 4 XL's face unlock better than my iPhone 12 Pro Max's mainly how it unlocked quickly and immediately opened up to your home page, no need to swipe up first.

But both phones for me were never 99% accurate unlocking. Tons of times needing to input my passcode.

The only method that was near bulletproof accurate was the rear fps on my Pixel's.

Brand new Pixel 4 XL (64GB) went down to $479 on Amazon. So tempted…
Have you ever tried Swappa? It can save you some money on older phones and tech products.
They are gently used and follow strict guidelines.

Anyway a used unlocked Pixel 4 XL is around $200

Boss.. "cough" "cough" I might be coming down with something. Out of concern for my fellow co-workers..... I should finish the day from home....

LOL. Actually, I work at a company where so many people are working remote and very few people are coming back into the office. Including my boss. So no one would care. The only thing keeping me here at the moment is that lunch is being delivered before noon and I have a call to be on. But after... off I go.

Starting day 2 on the pixel 6, since a full charge. Pixel 3 was at 16% by about 6pm last night. 6 is currently at 49% a few hours after this screenshot.

The FPS thing is really weird. Seems most are saying at best it's 75% but then there's a small few where it seems to work better. I wonder if it's bad sensors, bad setups, or some people just have magic fingers. Hearing all the issues makes me want to not take delivery of either, but I know this itch won't go away until I try at least one of the two out.
I tend to press somewhat firmly when registering and using this sensor. Not hard enough to distort the screen, but enough to flatten my finger fully on the screen when I am asking it to sense.

I really love the little nuances of Android on a Pixel, notifications is one of those things. They are just so much more elegant and useful on a Pixel.
Email notifications are one of those things.. I can swipe down and choose to reply, delete or archive.
For me the Pixel has always been about user experience.

- This fingerprint scanner is the only major letdown so far on my Pixel 6 Pro. It seems to work maybe 75% accurate at best. And that dumb bright white light is not cool.

- Curved edge screen, still on the fence with this, makes the phone display feel like it jumps out at you, like makes the phone feel thicker or fatter.

- Auto brightness sometimes doesn't activate right away in dim lit rooms, like the screen stays dark for a bit before getting bright again.

Other than those three things, this phone is warp speed fast and very smooth.

Just for testing, is there a way to disable the fingerprint scanner, and passcode, and just pick up the phone and swipe up to enter to the home screen?

Not quite the same, but I did turn on smart unlock when at home in order to avoid using the FP sensor. That lets you just tap on the screen to go to your home page.

Well, I have the FP sensor working better now. I erased my previous fingerprint, put some lotion on my hands, waited a few minutes, then re-added them. Working much better. I think the technology being pretty basic has a hard time to dry hands.

OMG folks it finally happened! Stormy has left 💃 Rancho Cucamonga 🕺 and is in my state! I now have a projected delivery date of Wednesday!

Wednesday is actually an awkwardly busy day, but the evening and the rest of the week are (supposed to be) clear-ish so I will have time to enjoy setting it up.

I have two Spigen cases and film screen protectors to try
It finally left, and now, reading this the “Rancho Cucamonga” ditty is back in my head.

Thanks lol.

Sadly I’m not getting anything until December 8-9.

Edit: Nevermind, I’ve been bumped up to November 17-18 now. Allegedly.
