A screen in those sizes would put you in a Pixel 4a or Pixel 5. Depending how the Pixel 6 and Pro sells which by current indications show they have a hit on their hands. It could be awhile before we see those phone sizes again.
Which is unfortunate, I LOVED the size of my Pixel 4, unfortunately I cracked the display and needed a replacement.

It's just crazy to me how the iphone 13 pro is now the "smaller" one, when it's almost the same size as my old Notes 3-7 while the Pixel 6 is a little taller. Back in the Note 3-7 days I was considered the large phone guy.

Ok some thoughts between 6 and 6 Pro.
Sorry if this ends up being lengthy. I'm typing as I go haha.

So firstly, the design is SO much better on the 6. I'm speaking on behalf of myself BTW, not as fact, as many people will prefer the design of the Pro.
But for me, the flat edges, flat screen and slightly smaller size Vs the Pro makes it so much nicer to hold and use.

Strangely, the 6 feels heavier than the Pro. Despite it actually being lighter. I think they have done something with the weight distribution on the Pro to make it feel lighter as the smaller 6 definitely has more heft to it and feels a little top heavy. I don't have a preference on either in terms of weight though. I like the weight of both, they don't feel 'too' heavy which is good.

Haptics. Well, it almost feels like we have two completely different motors in these phones. The 6 haptics feel barely there. I was really surprised at how much worse they feel. The reviews I watched all said the two devices had very similar haptics, just the Pro felt slightly stronger / better. However in my experience, the 6's are not good. Shame as I expected more. Pro is miles ahead. Goes back to what I was sayin re the internals. Seems like they got the Pro internals for weight distribution and haptics bang on.

Screen. The screen comparison is a weird one. When I flit between the phones, the Pro feels like the screen is too big and I need more widgets or apps on to fill it out, but then when I switch back to the 6, that looks cramped. I do think the curved display gives the feel of a bigger, more immersive experience but with it, I do feel like you lose some grip and comfort.

I honestly cannot notice any difference between 90 and 120hz. 60 to 90 is very obvious, but not 90 to 120. To me, anyway.

What I can see now though having them both together, is the Pro display does seem a hair sharper and looks like the display is painted onto the top of the glass. Whereas the 6 seems like the glass is over the screen, if that even makes sense.

Camera. So this was the biggest thing for me as I am someone who does buy a phone based on its camera prowess. I'm not into photography or anything, but I like to have a versatile camera system on my phone.
Main camera is obviously the same, but the zoom is the biggest difference so I thought I'd take some snaps today with both at 4x just to really see the difference. I wanted to know how the 6 copes at 4x without the telephoto, and how much better the telephoto on the Pro makes pics look.
Well, see for yourself below.

I knew the telephoto was pretty good on the Pro, but this really underlines it for me. It's such a good lens. Thing is, the 6 does a decent job with all photos at 4x I think. But as soon as you pinch to zoom into those photos from the 6 it all falls apart. Whereas the Pro retains some fantastic detail.
This is the reason I think I may keep hold of the Pro. Despite me loving using the 6 so much more. It's more comfortable, has a better design and feel (for me) and I prefer the Sorta Seafoam colour over my Sorta Sunny. And any of the Pros for that matter.

I will continue over the weekend, but I don't think I want to deal without the telephoto. I don't 'dislike' the Pro at all. I just wanted to experience the Pixel 6 for myself and I'm glad I have. Next year I hope Google does away with 2 models that are different in certain areas and just makes a smaller and a bigger model with a flat screen. All I ask!
Good write up and photo comparison. I found that 4X optical on the 6Pro and 3X digital on the 6 produce very similar results (moving closer on the 6 to get the same framing). As your photos highlighted, comparing 4x
optical to 4x digital is just not close.
For me I just don't take a lot of telephotos where I couldn't physically just move closer to use the 2x on the 6 to get a pleasing photo. If you are someone that absolutely needs the 4x, or more, then it's no contest.

Samsung Internet Beta with Dark Mode enabled looks great on the 6 Pro. Plus it's an insanely smooth and fluid browser.

Still have my Pixel 6 Pro Cloudy White, and my Seafoam green Pixel 6.

Personally I find the Pixel 6 a much easier phone to just pick up and go, throw in my pocket and run. Whereas the 6 Pro is just too large or almost fragile feeling, need to more careful grabbing it. But it is a more premium phone with a better display. And content looks great on it.

My opinion, the Pixel 6 Pro good if you work at home mostly and don't go out much. But if your on the go and run around a lot then the more pocket friendly Pixel 6 is better. The Pixel 6 just feels easier to hold, has better grip.

One interesting thing, the battery life seems a bit better on the smaller Pixel 6. Not sure why that is?

So if I have to make a decision right now, gut feeling, which phone am I keeping...Pixel 6 in Seafoam green. It just feels more Pixel, more Google-ish, I like the minimalist design of the squared off look and bezel borders, gives it a solid thick strong look, but minimal, not flashy, plus feels confident to hold. The 6 Pro curved edge screen seems to offer nothing and serves no purpose really, the rounded edges almost act like bezels themselves, there's really no content shown on them, plus a shadow is always present on the bend of the curved edge, almost seems like a bezel then.

My dream, Google should have made the regular Pixel 6 with similar specs as the 6 Pro, give it the LPTO 120hz display tech, give it 12GB RAM, and the same size larger 5,003mAh battery, and the extra zoom lense, and keep everything the same as is with the flat screen and comfortable size. That would've made this easily the number smartphone of 2021.
For me, Google comes close each year but there’s always something I dislike. That said, this year is the closest they’ve come and why I’ll be keeping the 6 pro. I look forward to seeing what they can do in future releases but I’m planning on keeping the 6 Pro for at least 3 years. I don’t switch out my Android devices every year like I do with my iPhone.

I hope Google drops the regular verison and just releases “pro” versions. Exactly the same device just in different sizes with flat screens. I wouldn’t mind seeing a small, medium, large version. But a lot of people don’t like small phones so I’d settle for medium and large similar to what Apple does with the Pro and Pro Max.

If they need a lower cost option do what Apple does with the SE but with the A series. Give the A the same Tensor chip and release it 6 months or so after their flagship devices.

Doggone it! Seeing their branding on the back, I wish I'd gotten that case to go with my ghost ring! I've got the Spigen version instead. Missed opportunity, sigh.
There's always a chance to get it again. I'm sure some sales will be popping through nudge you to buy one lol

Well they didn't have any cases for the 6 pro.. so it was a really expensive attempt lol. But wow - the color accuracy of my bloody and bruised nose? The Pixel 6 Pro really made the colors pop ;)

I hope you're on the mend

Yeah - I'm on the mend. Pools of blood when it happened. Now the worst bit is sneezing. Black eye(s) already here.

Doctor in the ER didn't even bother with an x-ray. "Your septum is broken. I can see with my light.. it will heal on it's own and you're not having trouble breathing." So at least I save some money there haha
Oh goodness! Heal up soon! I've smacked into a few glass doors myself. I have also fallen asleep reading and dropped ipads on my nose! I guess I've just been fortunate not to have broken my nose. I have allergies and am always sneezing so I can't imagine how I'd manage what you're going through. Dang!

It's funny how I consider the regular Pixel 6 a small phone now. To me it's actually the perfect size, not big, not small.

Like when I had my iPhone 12 Pro Max, that thing was a beast crossing that border of almost too large. But the regular 12 Pro is too small for my liking. So if 6.7" is too big for me ( Pro Max / 6 Pro ) but the 6.1" size of a iPhone 12 Pro or 6" Pixel 5 tiny to me.

So what's the mid size between a large 6.7" and a small 6"/6.1"? That would be like 6.3" or 6.4" which is Pixel 5a and Pixel 6 size, I have all three, the 5a and 6 and 6 Pro. And the 6 Pro is just a no go for me, gigantic tablet almost, or maybe I just hate curved edges display, just looking at them makes me go, ugh stupid. Or maybe because I think of Samsung Galaxy when I see the silly rounded edge screens, and I hate Samsung phones, would rather take an iPhone ( and I totally dislike iOS ) The last Samsung phone I had was the 8 Plus, and I returned that after one weekend, the curved edge screen being the deal killer, plus Samsung's ****** idea of Android, with duplicate apps, etc... To me there's only two smartphone lines on the market to get, iPhone if you like iOS, or Google Pixel, That's it.

Sorry for the long winded post. Just my thoughts right now.

thanks for this agree on everything you said. I am taking the pro out today because I would use the telephoto out street shooting and may just stick with it instead of the 6.

So far the 6 Pro is fantastic. I love this implementation of Android. It's a nice change from One UI, which I also like. But I like this better. It's more straightforward.

Unfortunately for me, and this is something I'm reluctant to keep discussing because I know it makes me exhausting to be around, I'm just still struggling with pwm. It's not as bad as with the iphone 13 Pro. At least not yet.

I do seem to have slightly less discomfort looking at my husband's display and can focus more easily. It is just a tiny bit different. I have to hold my phone almost straight up and down and look down at it to feel the same way I feel looking at his display and to see the same crispness and freedom from eye fatigue that I see looking head-on at his display.

I suppose I could try to return and get a different one whenever stock issues are resolved, but this phone is functionally perfect and the next could be worse in different ways and there's no guarantee about the display being better. Technically there's nothing wrong with this display. There's something wrong with ME.

It's just that the text looks more focused and less jittery on my husband's display. And the jitter is from pwm. I'm sure most people can not see this jitter that I see. And unfortunately that's the problem. It gives me a serious credibility problem when others can look at the same display I'm looking at and not be affected the same way I am. It smacks of hypochondria to many people. Actually, most people. I know I've reached a point I'm just going to have to grab my Xr and take a seat and shut the heck up about all of this or accept being thought of as a crazy lady.

These displays are all to the same spec so I'm not even sure why there's a tiny difference nor why it matters to my weird vision.

I will see if I can get used to reading on it from this weird angle. Basically I am holding it straight up and down and looking down at it. Lol kinda crazy!

Everything else has been fantastic. Knock wood...no weird overheating like I get on my iOS devices. The fingerprint sensor has been fantastic, left thumb gets me in fast almost every time! :D

I use the Duck Duck Go browser as my default. I haven't needed an ad block on it. Web pages generally render fast and well on it. Sometimes there are pages it won't let me load. Like when I was looking for wallpapers, DDG blocked some sites.

Battery life has been all over the place because I keep throwing it on the charger in the kitchen. I'm not trying to track it too closely. It either gets me through my day or it won't. Also I have been messing with display settings trying to get the optimal one for my vision so that would affect battery life, too.

If, IF I send this phone back, it will be because I don't want to repeat what happened with me and my iphone 13 Pro. And that's the only reason I'm writing this post. I don't want anyone to think I am the least bit dissatisfied with this phone outside the pwm issue. This is a problem with ME, not the Pixel 6 Pro. Google exceeded my expectations with this phone.

Why don't you switch phones with your husband?

In Portrait mode you can shoot in 16:9 or 4:3. What's the recommended setting?

Here's both settings;

Why don't you switch phones with your husband?
I'm not sure how it would go over with him to suggest it. He has a look that is a weird hybrid between constipation and irritation the couple of times I mentioned I can focus better on his display and he flatly stated I'll get used to mine. 🤣 So I don't want to put him on the spot to give up the better of the two displays. If only I could see the difference, that would be one thing, but I think this time, he can too. So it just wouldn't be fair.

In the past he was always the one to suggest trading devices. We tried once with iphone X but I couldn't function on any X. He's not offering this time, so I think he's pretty done with this garbage and frankly I don't blame him. It's a pain for him to set up his phones and he's short on time these days.

This is something I'll deal with on my own.

Edit: I tried my husband's phone a bit again to see if there really was a difference in the effect, to determine if I should try to play the "display lottery". Well there is a difference but not a positive one. After spending a fair amount of time reading on his display it made my eyes feel more jumpy! And fwiw when he found out I'm considering returning this phone he offered to trade if my eyes could work better with his phone. That was sweet of him! The sensations are different but trading would make it worse.

When my XsMax messed me up a couple of years ago it took about a month to recover from the photo sensitivity it induced. I may just need time. At least when I'm not on the Pixel the discomfort goes away. That wasn't true of my issues with the 13 Pro.

Heat due to the bunk modem. Mostly when on 5G. Around the SIM tray especially.
Yikes. Well I haven't really had the opportunity yet to get on a call with it. And I'm on WiFi calling most of the time now. I've actually gotten in the habit of turning cellular off on all my 5G phones when at home. We have poor signal around here and it tears up the battery. It's actually been great being back on an Xr and being able to keep cellular on and still have a decent battery life.

Having said all that, cell is turned on my 6 Pro at the moment and has been all weekend so far and there's been no heating up. Would this be happening when on a call or is it happening during standby, too?

Got my Pixel 6 today. Testing it out and will post my thoughts after I've had a day or so to play with it. One of the things I have noticed is some apps like Netflix have good sound when using just the speakers but on Disney plus (in the UK), the sound is very low. Does anyone else have the same problem? It may just need an update.

I'm also using the voice dictation to send this message and I have to say it is absolutely amazing . I haven't been this amazed at a feature on a phone in a long, long time.

Edit: this is going to make me very, very productive when it comes to using my phone to send messages in any app.

Finally managed to take a better look at the 6 and 6 Pro. Was worried that they’d be too big to hold with one hand and while it was fine (with both) without a case, when you add one into the mix that’s when it could be unwieldy.

They look so nice though, especially the Pro. That screen is gorgeous.

Quick Review

So my best buy order got botched about a week ago (10/29). I went to the store to pick up my 6 pro and was all smiles when I got home. During setup, I realized that BB didn't give me the unlocked version that I ordered but a Verizon phone instead. Pissed. I traveled back to the store and initiated an exchange. Sales manager processed a new order with a new ship date of this past Monday 11/1. The best part- the manager took over $200+ dollars off my new order. So I basically got the pro for the price of a 6 😀 God is good!

Fast forward to this past week. More delays. Told fed ex to hold at on site location ( Walgreens) to deter thief. Picked it up this Thursday.

Camera

I haven't used it yet other than a motion photo but the samples I've seen here and other reddit threads are stellar. Better than my 4xl in clarity and detail but by a smaller margin. I really see the difference when I pixel peep but to a laymen I don't know if they would see a difference between the pixel 4xl, pixel 5 and 6 series. I expected this to be honest. More detail and clarity just not a massive jump like the pixel 2. Hopefully more tuning on the algorithm will help with the new sensors. Nevertheless, the camera is still the business. 4x telephoto produces gorgeous photos. I don't use portrait mode with the 4x anymore since the natural bokeh the sensor produces is more than enough. So happy to have 3 lenses on a pixel phone. Finally!

In-hand feeling

I love the way the phone feels in my hand. The pixel 6 feels better though.

The curves give the p6p a smaller feel in-hand for a big device which I prefer. Maybe it's the curved screen and light but premium feeling to the p6p that I appreciate most about this phone. The curve makes holding a big phone easier and feels comfortable in your palm. Personally, I think a phone weight around 195 grams to 215 grams is my ideal weight for a phone. The phone feels premium with a little heft and not hollow like a toy. Also doesn't lead to finger fatigue as fast in my case.

In my mind, my brain says a phone is big by the weight juxtaposed to the size of the screen. This is the reason I would never purchase a max size iPhone. Even my 12 pro feels too heavy. Sure it's an illusion but phones are too heavy for me nowadays. Pixel 6 series does a good job balancing premium and lightness.

Accidentally hit post without editing or finishing my thoughts. I'll stop for now and add more details later...
