the Pixel FPS is killing me!! On a weekend hunting trip in the mountains. Driving along a dirt road we see a herd of elk. We get out to take some pics. The herd start moving away. I can't get my P6 Pro FPS to work for any fingerprints and I miss the shot. ARGH.....

An hour later we see 20 wild turkeys roaming through thick forest. Same thing happens

Going to delete all my fingerprints and start over again. But for now I'm back on my 13 PM
Double tap power button to launch camera. Forget the FPS!!

EDIT. Oops, didn't carry on reading before replying. :p

Used the long exposure mode on this fountain. Didn't like the outcome. I prefer the look of the water frozen in time vs what the blurred version looks like

I hate recommending someone keep a device based on features that might arrive in the future, but I fully expect the FP scanner to improve and maybe even a face unlock added.

The camera can be started by double pressing the power button.
Man I wish Apple would enable this for iPhone. Either let us choose to have double click open the camera instead of Apple Pay (I only use that with my AW anyway), or at least add the camera to the Assistive Shortcut list which activates with triple click. The camera shortcut on the lock screen is useless when wearing gloves and hard enough to activate without them. I keep sliding the lock screen up when I try to press it in a hurry.

My partner came home with a Pixel 6 before.
Had no idea it was gonna happen as not a techy at all.
So now, once again there's a Pixel 6 in Sorta Seafoam in the house which I've just held and loved all over again. ??

Thankfully I'm now fully satisfied with my Pro, but wowzers. Google have made 2 great phones this year!

You film motocross? Wonder if you know my brothers friend TB, he's a cameraman for Chicago sports teams, but also does motocross.

The brewery near me is Noon Whistle. Easily my fav New England type beer anywhere, and I've tried a hundred different brands.
Sounds like a good place to check out. I am up to a few hundred breweries visited and almost 30 million google maps views on my shots. I am picky about a NEIPA, but have had good luck with Midwest and central brew houses.

I like a couple in Indiana, both south bend and Indianapolis area.

Try double clicking the power button next time. Should take you right to the camera app

Really hope Google release the face unlock function in the December security software patch update. If so, it will be really interesting to see if the face unlock system can match or come close to the Pixel 4 XL version which was absolutely incredible - insanely fast and accurate - much better than Apple's face unlock system imo. Powered by the Soli radar chip as part of Google's Soli Project if I recall.

In the end, I think security privacy weakness became the primary issue, allowing for face unlock with eyes closed - and main reason it never made it to the Pixel 5.

Personally, like others, I am definitely missing face unlock on the 6 Pro compared to Apple.
The FPS has never failed on me - I would say don't rule out a 6 or 6 Pro based on that buying decision alone but it is noticeably slower with Google opting for the under-display optical version instead of ultrasonic version.

The only other Google software update that would really grab my interest is improving the quality of video on the 6 Pro, it is great and much better than previous Pixel's but still not as impressive as Apple's video quality.

Thinking about nice-to-have's on a future Pixel is a flat screen, 3.5mm headphone jack and stylus (no chance on both!) just because I'm old school! The 6 Pro definitely lends itself to stylus use, I'm going to buy a new one.

Interesting that you mention it was better than the Apple system, while also citing the security issues and such.

Was it better in your use case due to speed, or accuracy? I can honestly say I have had zero issues outside of the very first iPhone X patch, with FaceID. I actually prefer it to other systems I have tried both on phones, and Microsoft’s Hello for PC.

I thought they had an update to not open with the eyes closed. I kinda remember the software update with it. But yeah that would be nice even though this phone will not have the same face unlock as the 4XL..

Will the app developers resist to implement face unlock with lack of Soli sensor? My understanding is that Pixel 6/6 Pro does not have Soli.
I might be wrong.

For me it was due to speed and accuracy on the Pixel 4XL face unlock. It would literally face unlock as I'm picking it off the table so ready to use immediately. There is nothing wrong with Apple's FaceID, that has been highly efficient and accurate since that X patch - it is just that Google managed to make theirs quicker whilst being just as accurate, that is in my usage experience.

Yeah your right, Google had an update to fix so not too unlock with the eyes closed. The real issue was why did Google first release it without that feature! Apple had in place since 2017 so should have been standard for Google to implement from the get-go.

Another reason Google may not have brought face unlock to the 5 and 6 is to keep the minimum bezel with hole-punch camera only. The forehead bezel on the 4XL was prominent with the face unlock!

Has anyone tried "One Handed Mode" on the Pixels running Android 12? What was Google thinking? Unless I'm missing something really, really obvious all it achieves is dropping the viewing area in half vertically and you can't even scroll up. I tried to make a call in OHM and found I couldn't even get the call button or dial pad to display.

I don't have a Sammy phone but I've read they have a much better implementation. I have owned two Huawei phones one of which I broke (Huawei Mate SE, one of my favorite phones) and the Honor 9X. The Honor 9X which is a BIGLY phone 6.7" has a nice implementation. If you gesture from the top left to the lower right the display area drops to the lower right of the screen albeit much smaller but you still have the entire viewing area intact. If you are a left handed person you can do the same to the lower left of the screen.

I was expecting Google to do something similar but after a couple of minutes trying to understand Googles interpretation of OHM, I finally gave up.
