Dunno if this means a pixel type upgrade program or not

Why they aren’t including Stadia Pro in with that deal is madness.

I’m really wanting to get the new Pixel but I’m thinking the better choice for me would to get the 5a.

I go to the google store and there is no option for a cracked back iPhone so it is complete gamble on trade in value

I have the 4a 5G which is basically the 5a (slightly larger screen) and it’s a really nice phone. Battery life is really good as well. You can’t go wrong with the 5a.

My Wife uses the Pixel 5a, and it's a great phone. The battery life is OUTSTANDING, truly great battery life, easily 8h SoT. And the screen gets pretty bright outdoors, and has deep blacks and punchy colors, it looks like a very nice OLED display.

The size is near perfect, it's a not a small phone, but not silly large like a Pro Max / Galaxy Ultra size. I think it's a good middle ground size.

Installed the Android 12 beta on it, and it runs smooth and looks stylish.

Plus the camera is superb, Portrait pics look great.

I'm upgrading the wifes Pixel 3a to a 5a during Black Friday assuming their will be some discounts. She loves the pictures on her 3a and anything more powerful than the 5a would be lost on her.

I went to a local Best Buy store and put my 4a 5G right up against the iPhone 13 PM and to me they were nearly identical in size and supposedly the 5a is slightly larger than the 4a 5G. But then again I prefer large phones, which doesn't explain why I love the P4a.

I do like my 12 Pro Max, it’s beautiful for content like surfing Safari and using apps like Twitter and Reddit, etc…

But the width is the thing for me, the iPhone seems extra wide, compared to Android phones that are more candy bar narrow.

Afyer using my iPhone for a day, then going back to either my Pixel 4 XL or 5a, the narrow width is immediately noticeable and more comfortable.

Well now I have two possibilities for trade. I thought I was doing okay switching back and forth between my 13 Pro and my 12 mini. But stabbing eye pain and migraine symptoms that no otc pain relievers will help beg to differ. They started over the weekend and it’s definitely phone related.

So the green mini I was going to trade in April or May for a 13 mini is now in play. The other possibility is my S21 Ultra just by virtue of being another big Android phone.

What has happened is that the 13 Pro has caused me to not be able to tolerate the 12 mini display again. I had problems with it then somehow adjusted to it and now I’m unadjusted again.

If I stop using the 13 Pro I can probably go back to using the 12 mini but it will have to be exclusively.

Of course the horrendous possibility exists that I won’t be able to use the Pixel 6 or 6 Pro display along with the 13 Pro, either. Or with the 12 mini.

Why can’t I just have regular vision like the rest of you guys?

I’m not sure I’m ordering anything at all though. Let me see how this week on the 13 Pro by itself goes. Sigh.

Stormy Black sounds like a stage name.

GM Sorry to hear this I’m a little confused on the situation so certain type of smart phone displays can cause migraines or headaches?

The 13 Pro does not cause, but the 12 Pro does?

From what fellow MR migraine sufferers and I have been able to learn, the pulse width modulation that is used to dim OLED displays runs at a frequency that’s low enough to cause eye pain, eye strain and/or various kinds of migraine symptoms in people who are sensitive to it. In me, it can be as severe as a seizure that mimics a stroke in some nasty ways.

Mostly these days it’s just eye pain.

I have not yet really had any problems with the Android phones. But from iPhone X up to, but not including iPhone 11 Pro, I had nasty reactions to Apple’s implementation of OLED. Some other people here can’t use ANY OLED phones at all. So I’m lucky.

I was able to use iPhone 11 Pro without eye strain or pain or headaches. I did have weird neurological symptoms that made me concerned I had MS and was planning to get that looked into, when Covid hit. But then I got rid of that phone and my symptoms went away.

IPhone 12 made my eyes water and sting. I returned that. I got 12 Pro Max and that was fine. It was just a bear to carry. I tried 12 mini. At first it made me feel like was I was being punched in the eye every time I used it. Fortunately the pain immediately stopped when I wasn’t looking at it. But it is such a pleasure to carry in my pockets, so I figured I’d just use it for brief functions but always have it on me. I still enjoyed the big phones at home. I loved the 12 Pro Max camera. Meanwhile somehow I found myself adjusted to the 12 mini and became able to use it normally!

And that’s been fine, going between the 12 Pro Max and the 12 mini. But then I traded my 12 Pro Max for the 13 Pro. And I got some eye aches and felt a little dizzy when I used the 13 Pro at first. But then that settled down.

So then I picked my Mini 12 back up…and find I can’t use it again. It’s like being punched in the eye again. But this time, the pain didn’t stop when I put the phone down. It didn’t stop when I took two Tylenol and two aspirin together. It didn’t stop when I went to sleep and woke up.

I am typing this on my 13 Pro just fine. I can’t look at my 12 mini. The sensitivity is increasing ridiculously. I suppose if I knew math I could tell you if it was increasing exponentially or logarithmically. Lol.

I’m so screwed because I really counted on the big phone-little phone team.

I am just a few too many days too late discovering this. I can’t return the 13 Pro and get my 12 Pro Max back and try to go back to the way things were.

The 13 Pro seems fine, and I do like it so I will give it a go on its own the rest of this week. I did turn off Pro Motion. It’s set to 60 frames per second via Accessibility settings. That does get rid of the slight motion sickness sensation. But that didn’t bother me too much.

Since the pixel 6 Pro display will have similar settings as the 13 Pro I hope I can switch between them and not get headaches. I’m definitely going for the 6 Pro now if I go for a Pixel at all. That’s to better match the displays.

But let’s see if I get through this week first. I may end up running back to the mini and hoping I can get readjusted again. I was very excited about the 13 Pro but now I guess I regret it. Not because of the phone, if I weren’t suffering I’d be thrilled with my purchase. But because I’m too sensitive to handle the display differences.

Sorry for the autobiography. It was a little complicated to explain.

Thanks for the detailed explanation, so sorry you are going through this, that's terrible. My God what a nightmare. Ugh.

So Apple's OLED have some weird frequency or megahertz issue with how the display produces the screen images or something? But Android's displays don't do that to you?

Yeah those fixes were posted on the main forum ages ago. Unfortunately they don’t work for most of us. In my case, the eye pain on the mini will happen with me just checking and responding to my texts for a few minutes. The really bad problems I had in the past was during plain old reading the forum and doing my emails.

The Galaxy S7 Edge made my eyes water sometimes but didn’t cause me migraines. Yeah I can use my Samsung phones just fine. The only time I couldn’t was when I was recovering from whatever the heck my XS Max did to me. I watched a movie on it then went to use it in the kitchen. I think the combination of the flicker from the LED in the recessed lighting fixtures in tbe kitchen ceiling and the flicker in the screen gave me a seizure migraine.

Apple does something with the displays in addition to the pwm that bothers people. They do something called temporal dithering on the LCD displays. That was actually worse. I couldn’t stand the display on my SE 2 and traded it to Apple to get a discount on my oldest daughter’s 12 Pro last year. Come to think of it, I found the display on my Xr very harsh, too, and that’s no OLED. The easiest displays on my eyes and brain were the ones on the iPhones 6 Plus-8 Plus and the display on my Pixel 3XL.

What I did not like about my 3XL was the battery life and the tactile feedback of the keyboard. But it was and is a nice display to read on. Unfortunately it had awful black crush or whatever you call it when you are trying to look at a dark scene in a dimly lit environment. I could not watch videos or look at photos or even really take photos and see the results in the evening in dim lighting. Everything looked like mud.

I do hope Google has solved that issue on subsequent phones.

Jeez I just saw over on Android Central that Samsung is holding another Unpacked event the day after Google debuts the Pixel 6’s. Jeez that’s kind of…well it’s very Samsung.

That’s why it’s probably annoying if you’re really serious about your new phones to partner up with Samsung for most of the key components. You can tell Apple execs are always chafing a bit. They ditch Samsung every chance they get. But I think they hate Qualcomm more at some point.

I am excited for the Apple Mac event and the pixel event!!

Hype for M1X and pixel camera.

Who's cares about samsung's event!! The S22 will not come till next year. So that samsung event is filler.

Starting at 128GB storage, thank goodness!

I’d love the 512 but I can get by with 256. I don’t know why, but I’m using a lot of storage on my Samsung. It came in off my SD card. If I can pare it down I don’t see why 128 GB can’t work fine. If I trade my green 12 mini and not my s21 Ultra, then 128 will definitely be fine because I don’t need to take anything off my Samsung.

It's about time they ditched 64gb, it's a shameful amount to be offering. 256gb is perfect for me, although I understand why some want 512gb. So it's a bit poor to only offer that in the US & Australia.

I’ve used 64gb for years with no issues so the fact 128gb is now base level storage will be fine for me.

Here's to an iPixel-sung device announcement! 🤣🙃

I'm going a little excited to see what's being announced in a few days. Not sure things will be a day one buy however. Guessing more instant backorders though.

Im in my now annual “I want to switch to Android” period of the year. Lol

Everything about the 6 and 6 Pro looks to be great tbh and even though I’m massively entrenched in the Apple side of things, I really hope that if the reviews are positive that more people give the phones a chance.
