Thinking of selling my 7 pro for a s23u that galaxy looks quite impressive great screen great battery life and cameras
I moved over to the S23 Ultra from the Pixel 7 Pro. I don't regret it at all. Honestly, I like both phones for different reasons. The 23 Ultra is a better productivity device, and the 7 Pro is a smarter device. I have found I actually prefer the 23 Ultra's camera over the Pixel. It's not a big difference, but the difference I do see, I prefer the Ultra. Bixby's implementation of call screening is not close to the same level as the Pixel's since it isn't done automatically, so I miss that. The Ultra is just as smooth and snappy as the Pixel, so there's no loss there. The battery life on the Ultra is heads and shoulders better than the 7 Pro. It's not even remotely close. Even though you can enable the Android version of multiwindow in the Developer options on the Pixel, it isn't as robust as Samsung's implementation. In short, the Pixel is the smarter device, and the Galaxy is the more powerful device. I like them both for different reasons. All in all, I won't be going back to the Pixel 7 Pro. We'll see what the 8 Pro brings, but in the meantime I'll be using the 23 Ultra as my daily driver.

Think a lot of people do this every year and then they come crawling back to Pixel 😛
I often buy two phones a year. One during the Galaxy S release, and one either during the Fold release or the Pixel release. I switched from the Pixel 7 Pro as my daily driver, to the S23 Ultra, and honestly I don't miss the Pixel. I'll still give the Pixel 8 Pro a look, but honestly unless it makes an intriguing jump forward, I may skip that release and hold onto my 23 Ultra. I'll also be giving the Pixel Fold a hard look.

Seems like my Pixel is getting updated before my Samsung s23.

Can't wait to see the improvements Google has made.

For my friends with PWM sensitivity maybe this update will help,

Fix for issue occasionally causing display flicker or artifacts in certain apps or conditions *[1]

The Pixel 8 rumors keep on coming. The Tensor G3 is looking to be an Exynos 2300 I believe with a x3 core and 3 high performance cores a715 I believe and 4 efficiency cores on an improved Samsung 4nm process most likely and if we are lucky a 3nm process.

This chip has some potential to be big improvement over the G2 we have now.

I am looking forward to seeing more details as they come out. We should see better battery life and better performance. We will wait and see about thermal performance since Exynos based chips are famous for heating up quickly and with an x3 core it could run toasty. I really hope Google implements some better cooling solutions.

I love my Pixel 7 Pro but performance could be better, battery life could be better and thermal performance could certainly use some help.

Overall it is pretty impressive how well the G2 does thanks to all the AI processing but even with that it still doesn't feel as snappy as something with an 8 gen 2.

Overall no matter what happens if they just tweak a few things. Improve the screen, improve the speakers and the battery life and performance and keep similar design language the Pixel 8 should be a great phone.

Depending on pre order deals, trade in value I may upgrade. Right now my S23U is king but the Pixel 7 Pro is right there close behind. The Pixel 8 Pro could actually be even closer though I don't think they will be able to ace the alpha Omega supreme. Lol

I do love being a Google One member. I need to be anyway, as I save my photos at original quality so need the 2TB storage. I'm currently on 300gb.

But I love how I get 10% credit back from all purchases through the Google store with it and I've just had an email now with a 15% off code if I place an order before end of April. Just for being a Google One member. I may not even use it as I don't need anything, but it's still pretty good. 😁

Pixel 8 pro

6.5 inch screen and flat display

I really hope Google can keep undercutting the competition on pricing.

I doubt the Pixel 8 Pro will have a flat screen as much as I would love it.

They get the screen from Samsung and they use a 1440p screen. The only large 1440p screens from Samsung used curved displays. We can hope they use a screen similar to the s23 ultra which has a much flatter curved screen but I doubt it since cost is an issue. Just edited this post. Seems like it might be a flat display. I really hope so!

I am pretty sure they will use the same screen as the P7P but maybe a newer version but unless they source from LG or BOE I don't think it will be flat.

Still the new Tensor G3 is looking to be a pretty decent upgrade from the G2. If they put in a 10x zoom and maybe a 108 mp camera setup, better battery life and similar overall design with maybe some new colors it would be enough for me to upgrade.

I really think the Pixel 7 Pro is fantastic. I do think the Tensor G2 could be faster and have less thermal heat. But overall for the cost it is still one of the best Android phones out there.

While the tensor G2 is a clear improvement over the first gen, I still found things like the modem performance and the heat performance to be areas of opportunity. For example, with the modem I noticed I was getting better signal strength at home (I live in a low signal area) with the GS23U along with better speeds. So I went out and tested side by side, and found the same thing and it was repeatable.
As for the heat issue, I found it didn't take much for the P7P to heat up. Once, I was using the hotspot to connect my laptop, and turned on the voice recorder to record the zoom call I was on (on my laptop). The phone got VERY hot, (and it ran through the battery quite quickly). So much so, that it turned off the part of the recorder that identifies the person who's speaking. I noticed it could warm up a little during use of GPS when connected to Android Auto, but it wasn't too bad.
I'd like to see them address those two things, along with some battery life gains, and they'll be on the right track.

Yeah I agree. The modem isn't terrible but it isn't as good as Qualcomm. I haven't had any problems with it though.

The Tensor G2 efficiency is not the best. And heat is a problem. I think Google didn't really design well for any cooling and the chip runs hot.

Battery life could also be better.

However it is not like the SD 8 gen 1 made by Samsung which seemed to be worse in all areas except reception.

So what are people's thoughts on the latest huge vulnerability in our Samsung modems?

Seems pretty crazy and I am glad at least it is something that can be fixed by software.

I am all for the underdog. I mean Samsung is clearly the underdog when it comes to SOC development and 5g modems. Compared to Qualcomm and TSMC. It is good to have competition in both areas.

However it seems that Samsung needs to be a little better in security. These kinds of issues can ruin trust and drive people away from the companies products.

Since the Pixel 8 series and Tensor G3 is still based on a modified Exynos 2300 processor and the same Samsung 5300 modem it seems that Google will not be moving away from Samsung any time soon. Do you think this recent vulnerability will steer people away from the next Pixel or is it just a nothing 🍔 burger?

Already fixed in the March update for the 7 and 7 Pro. I'm sure they will get an update out to the 6 and 6 Pro ASAP to address this.

Pretty serious vulnerability. All they need is your phone number and could remotely take over your device and block further updates without you ever even knowing what happened.

Yes we are lucky that the update was fast. Probably the reason for the delay. I hope Google works fast for Pixel 6 owners. They shouldn't have had a delay. They should have gotten the update when Pixel 7 owners did. I hope when Pixel 8 comes out we won't be considered a lower priority.

Crazy stuff. I am sure Google will be focusing on Samsung components now and Google is pretty good at catching this stuff.

I would definitely disable wifi calling and Volte on a Pixel 6 until they get an update.
