Do you like Frank Foster? Going to see him in Nashville this month, he is another one of my favs
Never seen him, but like his music. Man going to see him in Nashville, that will be a blast. My favorite vacation spot, and I have a place in Hawaii, but I'll take a weekend of drinking on Broadway and good country music over anything.

Been quiet on here recently as I jumped ship over to a 14 Pro the last month. I’ve kept my Pixel, but kept it in a drawer and exclusively just used the iPhone.
I wanted to see how it fared and well, the iPhone is off this week and I cannot wait to go back to the Pixel.

I won’t go into too much detail, this isn’t an iPhone thread after all, but essentially it boiled down to quite a few factors for me.

Camera. The iPhone camera is quite honestly, crap. Yes, you can shoot decent photos but the actual app itself is horrendous. Every time I open it, it tries to take a macro shot no matter what I am photographing. I don’t want a macro shot. I often ended up using the 2x zoom to get around this but then the quality wasn’t great.
In addition, low light photography is painful. How it decides when and when not to activate night mode is nonsensical and shots without it in artificially lit rooms are flat out bad.

Haptics and key sounds. I have both on. The haptics don’t even happen as per the keyboard tap. It’s so out of sync it just feels bad and I’ve ended up turning it off. It’s one of my favourite things about android and the iPhone should do it better as their haptic motor is best in class. But nope. As for keyboard sounds, they don’t even work half the time. Typing this now in Safari. No keyboard sounds. Phone isn’t on silent. Why?

QoL. I can only set one timer. What on earth. Pixel I can set multiple timers. So when I have a cake in the oven, chicken in another and potatoes boiling on the hob and I need a timer for all 3 I end up setting alarms and working out how long I need to do them for. Utterly painful.

These are things I use daily and the iPhone just does a poor job with all 3 (for me). I am DESPERATE to get back to my Pixel so off I go. Lesson learned but the itch was definitely scratched.

Think a lot of people do this every year and then they come crawling back to Pixel 😛

I like Samsung Galaxy phones a lot. I also like Pixel phones a lot. I also like iPhones a lot.

For me I generally have two phones. A primary and back up. For a long time my iPhone was my primary and my Galaxy was my back up.

This year I am all Android and my Pixel right now is my primary and galaxy was my back up until I sold it for a new Galaxy yet to be shipped. Once I get the Galaxy it will be my primary but I have my Pixel as my alternative. I don't think I will have a backup phone this year but two phones of similar quality and alternating between the two.

In the next year or two I will be back to iOS but for now I can enjoy the best of Android.

Thinking of selling my 7 pro for a s23u that galaxy looks quite impressive great screen great battery life and cameras
I thought the same until i realised pixel nails the most important photos of people, my son and pets. s23 ultra is amazing and more rounded but camera wise i think i will always need a pixel for these shots now.

I have the fold 4 so maybe I don't need the s23 ultra

In my blind camera test after 9 rounds the pixel 7 pro is actually edging it.

yeah but then some of those test are suited for the Pixel are they not? I mean do just as many test using zoom.
There is more to camera shots than just shooting stills. Actual real world usage is different.
When I am out sight seeing and want to take a shot of a beautiful landscape the P7P and 14PM just cannot hang with the zoom of the S23U. Then take a 200MP landscape shot...then crop it and the quality is still there.
Taking shots of things relatively close in range and all 3 smartphones can do an amazing job.
But now go outdoors into the wide open and see where the zoom on the s23U really shines.
Can't go wrong with either smartphone though to be honest

I received a cheaper Whitestone Dome knock off screen protector for my 7 Pro today. It's brilliant! The first screen protector I have had on a curved display that actually works. I'm shocked!

Really chuffed with it.

I think it all comes down to what you take the most photos of. where s23 ultra for example does shine is landscapes I agree and pixel generally superior for people and anything that moves. great detail when zooming in and has those colours that pop certainly in great lighting. Pixel tends to darken the scene more which I would say reflects the scene more than Samsung does.

After comparing the phones for a week I definitely agree the Pixel camera takes better and more accurate photos in most situations. However I think the S23U will improve with software updates to take advantage of the superior hardware. The pixel is limited by it's hardware for the most part. I'm a huge pixel guy and it's hard for me to not use it but the S23 Ultra is just such a great, well rounded device. I hate the thought of it but I may have to sell either the pixel 7 Pro or my Z Fold 4 because the S23U isn't going anywhere anytime soon

Yeah it’s tough as these are all great devices

I love my fold 4 as my on the go tablet and iPhone will always be my daily so pixel or ultra has to go and I wish this Wasn’t the case

That said I can still enjoy the ultra experience with the fold anyway so all I’m missing would be the camera versatility

I like to use Google services. So I prefer stock Android more. I'm not a fan of Samsung customization.

Well I went ahead got a pixel watch and a pixel 7 pro today. Now I can see why people like these phones so much. One thing that I do is hit the volume keys instead of the power because of the S23 Ultra being in a different shot, other then that, this phone is pretty awesome.

I haven't been keeping up did you return the S23U? Love my Pixel 7P. Love the battery, display, and overall hardware better on the ultra but the Pixel 7 Pro is just my favorite phone to use overall. But I don't think I can give up the battery life and versatile camera of the Ultra.

Thinking of selling my 7 pro for a s23u that galaxy looks quite impressive great screen great battery life and cameras

As I now have both I can say a few things.

I love my Pixel 7 Pro and through the sale Google had and high trade in value for my old iPhone the phone was essentially free. I was also able to snag the ultra for a really good deal so cost between the two is not an issue I will discuss although there is a considerable difference if you are paying full retail price for either phone.

I will go over some basics then talk UI.

The two phones are almost identical in size yet the thickness of the s23 ultra is definitely bigger. The slim bezels on the s23 make the 6.8" screen take up most of the space. The P7P has slightly thicker bezels all around. The curvature of the glass on the P7P is also more pronounced leading to a very minimal distortion on the edges of the display that you don't see on the Ultra.

Out of the box the Pixel display looks more balanced and natural. The P7P has one of the best color temperature profiles I have seen. You can tweak the s23u to get very close but the P7P has a slight advantage here. The resolution feels identical on both even though the s23u is slightly higher. Both screens are really nice but the s23u has a slight edge in size and brightness, smaller bezels and less curved display.

The speed or processor is where you start to see some larger difference. The SOC on the P7P is good and in most cases there is little delay but on Facebook or other sites there can be some waiting while things load but it is minimal. Launching apps is fast on P7P and UI is very smooth. Animations are also very smooth. BUT the s23u takes things to another level. To say that it is the fastest Android phone I have ever used is no stretch here. Everything is super fast. Websites have no delay, update installations are incredibly fast, apps load super fast. UI animations and transitions are super smooth. There is a noticeable difference in the speed of the s23u.

Speakers on both phones are very good. The Pixel has more bass than most phones I have used. Compared to the s23u it is still slightly better. However overall volume and stereo separation is better on the s23u. The s23u speakers are very good. It is close but again the s23u has an edge.

Battery life. The P7P has decent battery life but every once and a while something seems to cause high drain. The P7P is a all day phone for heavy use and a 2 day phone for light use. The s23u is again better here. It is a 2 day phone with heavy use and longer for light use. It just seems the s23u is more efficient overall no matter what you do.

Graphics performance of the Tensor G2 is good. No one is going to complain they can't play games on the P7P. However the s23u has a big advantage here. The GPU on the ultra is significantly better. Cooling of the Ultra is significantly better than the Pixel 7 Pro. So if gaming or high GPU related tasks are important the s23u is much better.

Cameras on both phones are excellent but Samsung has really done a good job improving the focus related shots and speed related shots than in the past. Combined with higher resolution sensors and higher zoom it is very well matched. I would say with Pixel exclusive features like photo unblur and better AI post processing that the Pixel has the better camera system but Samsung has focused on reducing the gap between the two.

Build quality. Both phones have excellent build quality and you would be hard pressed to complain about either but the s23u is simply a more refined build. The seams are non existent on the s23u while the seams on the P7P are noticeable along the screen. The weight is almost the same and while the P7P feels great in the hand the s23u with it's thicker sides just seems easier to grip. The corners of the s23u might be a little sharper it is still comfortable and the more squared design gives maximum usable space on the screen. The P7P has an iconic look that I prefer to the s23u but the s23u has a unique look and is a bit better made.

The UI itself and the AI skills that Google adds to the Tensor G2 and Pixel 7 series is a big part of the selling point of the Pixel series. In fact it is probably the biggest selling point besides the camera system. Google doesn't disappoint either. The system UI is extremely responsive, stable and refined. Animations are smooth and fun. The speech to text is the best of any UI. The call screening is superb. The other AI features, slim Android build, fast updates, and other unique features make the Pixel 7 Pro more than the sum of its parts.

I would even go so far as to say besides the Samsung s23 ultra it is the most advanced phone out there. The Samsung s23 ultra is not that far behind with their own call screening, better computational AI in the cameras, and OneUI 5 although still a bit bloated is much refined with no stutters. The amount of features like Dex, the sPen, and customization on the s23u is unmatched by any other phone.

So I would say that the two phones are pretty close to one another. There are some advantages of the Pixel and some advantages of the s23u.

If I had to pick only one phone I would probably go with the s23u simply for the longer OS upgrades, the better all around hardware and super fast processor. I like the more rectangular design that allows better use of the screen. The spen is like the cherry on top.

If you are a specs nerd like me then you will also appreciate that everything on the s23u is cutting edge stuff. UFS 4.0 storage is about twice as fast as ufs 3.1 with close to 50% less power draw. Ddr5x is about 30% faster with the same power draw, the screen is brighter with better efficiency, the processor is faster with better efficiency, the camera setup is improved. Literally everything is the best on the s23u.

The Pixel 7 Pro on the other hand takes a more tried and true approach where the components might not be the latest and greatest and good enough. With an emphasis on software and AI the Pixel manages to feel just as fast and responsive in most scenarios as the s23u.

So I think it really comes down to budget and personal preference. Both are incredible phones and you can't go wrong with either.

Nope I'm keeping the Ultra but I did get rid of my Fold 4 for the Pixel. I'm really liking the experience on the Pixel over the Ultra, it's so clean and no bloat ware in the way.

I received a white Google Pixel 7 Pro this week and have been testing it a bit over the past few days. I don't think it's going to replace my iPhone 13 Pro Max, since I'm pretty used to Apple's ecosystem, but I do feel like having an Android to tweak a bit.

My first impressions are pretty good. The design is very nice, very neat, although not as much as the S23 Ultra or the iPhone. It feels more comfortable in the hand and lighter than the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

The screen looks great and is fluid. I really like the operating system, I like that the colors of the wallpapers are adapted to the system, it gives it some personality. The problem I see with Android is that they still do not fully take care of the aesthetics of third-party apps. They are not as polished as in iOS and although it has improved since the last time I personally tested an Android (I think the last one I had was a Galaxy S8), I still do not see a great improvement in that sense.

Where I certainly notice an improvement is in the camera. The camera on the 12 Pro Max seemed good to me and when it was stolen, I bought the 13 Pro Max and have been somewhat disenchanted ever since. It has too much processing, washes out the images too much and they have a watercolor effect even in "ProRAW". The HDR is sometimes too aggressive and the highlights have strange effects that I don't like at all and that didn't happen with the 12 Pro Max. Night mode without ProRAW just sucks.

I have not yet been able to test the Pixel camera thoroughly, but the little I've seen is pretty good. The photos have better definition (although it does not take photos in 50MP or RAW, I do not know if that can be changed), there is noise where the iPhone does wash, which I prefer since the image looks more natural and real.

The 5X zoom is good and gives a bit more play than the iPhone's 3X. The 30X is fine for an exceptional photo, but not for taking a "good" photo. I guess the S23 Ultra will be better in this regard.

The long exposure mode is better, much better than on the iPhone, which gives a pretty bad result. The motion sweep which is also in BETA seems to me a bit exaggerated, making it look like all cars pass at 200km/h even going at very low speeds.

Overall I find it a camera with better definition, more detail, better dynamic range and more natural. It doesn't wash out the images too much (with zoom yes, but like all phones).

So far, it is leaving me a very nice feeling and I'm looking forward to get more out of the camera.

I have been dealing with a port out nightmare with Boost mobile. Two weeks trying to get a port out pin so I can get a promotion from another carrier. You can't even talk to a human being. You just get a pre recorded message and then they hang. They have another number that you can get through to an agent but those agents don't have access to my account. I wish there was something I could do besides reporting them to FCC.

So I have been using my Pixel 7 Pro a lot lately and I turned off the adaptive Battery and I seem to be getting much better battery to my surprise.

I don't know why but the phone seems to run better and less heating as well.

Still waiting on the March update.

I have to say that this phone has been excellent. Really no bugs except for scrolling seems off. Sometimes scrolling is fine and other times it just seems very slow. I was hoping that would be addressed in the March update.

Otherwise it has been a pretty rock solid experience. It doesn't slow down and everything works well. Cameras are excellent.

I have been surprised by the battery life. It wasn't ever bad but something doing certain things would run it down faster than I would like and now it just keeps going.
