iPhone X Plus users, hows the transition to the X?

Best way to evaluate the X is to only use it as your main device for a couple of days and then pull your Plus out and see how the experience feels.

Don’t try and evaluate them side by side because in that scenario familiarity tends to bias observations.

I’m guilty of it to, so my 8+ is hidden away until Monday and then I will see how I feel.

I went to the Stormfront store at Telford to see the X as I was really concerned about losing 5mm of screen width as I’m coming from a 7+.

Yes it is a little narrower but it wasn’t a dealbreaker for me.

The Oled screen is SICK!

Face ID was super fast and the notch didn’t seem to be a big deal.

The build quality is outstanding, it actually feels like a £1000 worth of phone.

The display is like it is on the surface of the screen rather than it’s behind a sheet of glass.

I watched a few videos and checked out the X for 15 mins and I’ve decided to keep my preorder and make the switch.

Also, the glass back seemed to stick like glue to my hand, I’ve always had cases on my phones since the 6+ as the aluminium is just too slippery.

I think I’ll be rocking the X naked, except maybe for when I’m at work.

The only time you should need to do this is in the event an app goes completely pear shaped and you need to "force close" it. Otherwise, you're not improving the memory consumption, performance, battery life, etc.

Yeah, I can see doing this at home, but showing the office your junk ... not a good idea.

Sorry, can you expand on this a bit? Are you saying you've figured out a way to be able to swipe up to close apps without having to go through the ridiculous press and hold (and wait) first?
 
absolutely loving it, having 3 "+" phones, I was thrilled to see this redesign without sacrificing too much screen real estate

I have small hands. The reason I, initially got the 6S Plus was for the larger screen. It was a bit clumsy and awkward to handle. With the X I have a smaller body and the screen is similar, in size, to the 6S Plus. Now I can do one handed operations that I wasn't able to do with the 6S Plus. This was a great choice for me.

My take so far:

It’s smaller than I’d like. The loss of width is significant. It feels pinched. I’m going to stick with it for a year but I got very used to the Plus models. An iPhone X Plus would be ideal for me.

Now, that said, by far the biggest problem with the X is the UI, not only in third party apps but in Apple’s as well. In the cases where the UI is optimized for the X screen it works great. But optimized apps are rare at the moment. Nothing new in the world of 1.0 hardware.

So my take is that while it’s a significant step down for me in terms of screen size, I think that could be largely mitigated by updated software, so I’m willing to run with it for now and see where it goes. The instant Apple releases an X Plus I’ll be on it.

My biggest pet peeve is that I have to be in an app to bring up that multi app screen.. I can’t seem to do it from default home screen / background.

The screen makes me feel like I’m in snap chat all day b/c anyone whose ever exported snaps knows...
 
I feared the worst as my last three iPhone were all plus models. I thought the keyboard would be too cramped on the more narrow X. I was wrong.

The X keyboard is very usable and my fears were all for naught. Only had my X since 10am but it is sweet! Face ID has worked perfectly. So perfectly I forget it is even working.

Apple has a winner here.

So far, after the 6/6S/7 Plus, I’m absolutely in love with the form factor and the screen. The camera is breathtaking as well. Loving the gestural UI. Not a single qualm so far. Too early to tell re battery, currently at 80% with 1h40m of nonstop screen time (mainly safari and twitter) over LTE while streaming audio to AirPods and connected to my Apple Watch.
 
I kid you not. I'm sweating profusely. I"m having a bad withdrawal from plus. First time experiencing shakiness from plus. It's nice and all....(sigh) (deep breath)....
 
Really liking the X so far. Much nicer looking than the Plus. It's much easier to hold in one hand and the screen is still large. I actually like the new gestures - they've been easy for me to pick up and just seem intuitive to me.
 
i went to the apple store (Boston) this am and stood in line for the X...i had my 7plus and when i had the X in my hand the size difference was quite noticeable...i like the no home screen, the face ID but i’m also missing the size of my 7plus....it’s gonna take some getting used to....if there is an X plus next year...i’m getting it.

Probably gonna return my X for an 8 Plus. Had 7 Plus previously. There are too many downsides compared to a Plus for me. Video is very small. Websites are too narrow. Control Center is hard to reach. Reachability is too hard to activate. Keyboard feels cramped. PDFs are harder to read.

Face ID is not a clear improvement over touch ID for me. It only works if your face is pretty much right in front of the phone and unobstructed. I’ve noticed it does not unlock while sitting in my car mount unless I lean way over to get in front of it. When lying a table, it can't see me sometimes. When I look over at it on my nightstand while part of my face is obscured by my pillow, it fails. Touch ID works the first time in all of these situations. Furthermore, Face ID is a pain when it does fail. It automatically throws up a number pad to enter your passcode, and this has to be manually cancelled before you can try to use Face ID again. It's not always bad. Face ID works great a lot of the time when the phone is right in front of you, but I've learned there are apparently a lot of common situations where I am used to Touch ID working perfectly where Face ID repeatedly fails.

Main thing I do like about the X and will miss is the home gesture. The X screen also does look nice, but I feel a lot of that is due to True Tone, and that is on the 8 Plus.

I’m loving the size of the X. I’m coming from a 7 plus. For me it’s the perfect upgrade. But I can see why people would miss the size of the plus.
 
Coming from 7+ & 2nd day in at first I hated a few things coming from a plus I hated the smaller size I hated the "notch" at the top and I hated the OLED screen but now after using it I actual love the screen now. It seems to be getting better the more I have it on and the notch only looks horrible in the email program. Now I wish they would make a plus size in this phone next year. Face ID is awesome works fast. It's nice for logging into apps. I hate that it does not have landscape mode like the plus on main home pages but does on apps. I do love there is no home button and how that all works now. Overall I am keeping it and not going with an 8-plus this year. This always happens to me when a major change happens it does take me a little time to get used to a new updated product. Also no glitches worked with CarPlay after leaving store and maps looked better with X and no software glitches super fast fluid/smooth. Camera seems the same as last years but haven't really got in depth with it yet only have taken a few shots. Animated emoji aren't really exciting. Speakers are better. Battery life seems good. I love the new IOS and how you transfer from old phone to new like the apple watch pairing wow that is awesome and it took less time to complete the iCloud transfer process. My two cents..... But note last night and early this morning I was going to return for an 8+ but I am really starting to love this phone. Oh and I miss the battery % at the top

I moved over to the X from the 7+ and pruppert’s is a good round up of what I’ve experienced as well. It’s a bit of a downgrade in my opinion but I’m going to stick with the X. The screen measures bigger in the X but the icons and fonts are smaller side by side. That’s due to the narrower screen on the X - which makes the screen measurement “bigger” when measured on the diagonal. Reality is, the experience feels like you’re looking at smaller content. I’ll add another observation to pruppert’s list of nagatives - battery life. I forgot how quickly the smaller iPhones drained.

There are things I like - namely, the phone’s physical size, which is easier in the pocket... Trade offs.
